Service Addendum: Effect of the

SATA DVD Drive on Service Procedures

N OTE : This addendum applies only to certain PRO-model Print Servers (see “Identifying
applicable Print Servers” below).

Overview
The Print Server now ships with a SATA DVD drive, instead of an IDE DVD drive.
When servicing an applicable Print Server with a SATA DVD drive, be aware of the following:
• DVD drive power and data cable connections: The ribbon cable has been replaced by
a SATA power/data combination cable. The data portion of the cable connects to
motherboard connector SATA 1; the power portion connects to a 4-pin power supply
cable (see page 2).
• HDD data cable connection: The HDD data cable connects to motherboard connector
SATA 2, instead of SATA 1 (see page 2).
• System software installation: A preparation disk (CD0) must be used whenever
system software is installed. CD0 enables the Print Server to recognize bootable media
(see page 2).
• Motherboard replacement and option kits: The Feature Update CD does not work with
the SATA DVD drive. You must use the Fiery Options Utility CD. If you are installing an
option kit or motherboard replacement kit that includes the Feature Update CD, discard
it and use the Fiery Options Utility CD as described in the documentation that
accompanies the kit.
• Troubleshooting: Some troubleshooting procedures have changed (see page 3).

Updated service procedures

This section presents the service procedures and troubleshooting topics that change when a
SATA DVD drive is installed in the Print Server. For a summary, see “Overview” on page 1.

To connect the SATA DVD drive and HDD to the motherboard

The SATA DVD drive and HDD connect to the motherboard as follows:

SATA DVD drive power/data

combination cable

Motherboard connections
Connect to SATA 1
(SATA 1) (SATA 4)

(SATA 2) (SATA 3)

Connect to 4-pin
power supply cable

Connect to back

Connect HDD data cable to SATA 2

Connect SATA DVD drive

power/data combo cable to SATA 1

To begin System Software installation

You must insert CD0 to begin system software installation whenever you install system
software, otherwise the software installation hangs. CD0 enables the Print Server to recognize
bootable media such as System Software DVD1. CD0 runs for approximately 2 minutes,
ejects automatically, and then displays a prompt on the Print Server Control Panel (see
below). The remainder of the System Software installation procedure is as described in the
Installation and Service Guide.

Remove CD0. OK
Insert System
Software DVD 1
and press OK.

Motherboard replacement kits and option kits

The Feature Update CD does not work with the SATA DVD drive. If you are installing an
option kit or motherboard replacement kit that includes the Feature Update CD, discard it
and use the Fiery Options Utility CD as described in the documentation that accompanies
the kit.

Troubleshooting
The following table details the most likely troubleshooting issues that could arise in an
applicable system when a SATA DVD drive is installed. For additional troubleshooting
information, see the Troubleshooting chapter of the Installation and Service Guide.
