Faculty Member: Jennifer Wright Date: Jun 28, 2022

Rank of Faculty Member: Associate Professor Department: Social Science
Evaluation Period: 2021-2022 Campus: Lancaster

Comments highlighting the faculty member’s primary professional responsibility (teaching,

counseling, or information science) in consideration of:

● Fulfillment of teaching, counseling, or library responsibilities and preparation of related

materials (including self-assessment report as well as portfolio, if applicable)
● Progress on goals set (if applicable)
● Student evaluations results
● Observations of the faculty member, if applicable (promotion observations, observations
for other purposes)
● Other contacts or interactions with the faculty member

During the 2021-2022 academic year, Professor Wright taught one section of EDUC 140, one
section of EDUC 180, two sections of EDUC 209, two sections of EDUC 235, and one section of
EDUC 261.

The major new aspect of Professor Wright’s teaching this year was teaching online for the first
time (EDUC 209) in both semesters. Although she entered into this experience with trepidation,
Professor Wright found it to be a rewarding experience. She made changes for the spring after
her initial experience in the fall. She had a difficult experience with a student during a remote
class, requiring a BIT report and much follow-up. This incident require much reflection about
what might have been done differently, how she would have responded in a physical classroom,
etc. We would enjoy this type of reflection regarding other aspects of her teaching (such as what
did or didn’t work in trying new assignments, reasoning behind changes, etc,) in next year’s
self-assessment.

Professor Wright included many positive qualitative comments from her student evaluations.
She noted that her quantitative scores were slightly above the program and department averages.
Professor Wright notes that student feedback helps her to make changes to her courses, and it
would be nice to see examples of changes that she makes in her courses next year in her
self-assessment based upon this feedback.

Professor Wright’s service this academic year was concentrated within her discipline. She
coordinated to PSSHE grant in was responsible for the administrative execution of it. This is a
large grant that supports a staff person and is valuable to the early childhood education
community. We also use this partnership as a mechanism to matriculate work for students two
with the credit side. We thank professor Wright for her work in this area, it does not go
unnoticed.

Professor Wright also participates on several committees that partner with the college including
the Occupational Advisory Committee, the Higher Ed Consortium, local CTCs, Millersville
University, and Shippensburg University. Professor Wright often presents the College’s
education program to these entities. She has been an invaluable resource and she works with
both Millersville and Shippensburg on articulation agreements that will ensure a successful
transfer of credits for our students. In the upcoming year, we will continue to work with Penn
State - Harrisburg on the grow your own initiative. It’s our hope that we can move a little bit
closer to an articulation agreement that is equal to the PASSHE system.

This past year professor Wright has worked with the software company, Feedback Fruits which
integrates instructor feedback through D2L/Brightspace. She has worked with both the
discipline faculty and department faculty to encourage others to attend presentations offered by
feedback fruits to gauge their interest. The salespeople at Feedback Fruits are persistent!

Additionally, through her role as Program Director, Professor Wright is deeply involved in
curricular issues, discipline meetings, advisory board meetings, and community partnerships.
We appreciate Professor Wrights' professionalism and positivity as we continue to work on
partnerships that yield new student enrollment.

Comments highlighting the faculty member’s continued professional development to

enhance knowledge and skills

For her professional development this past year, Professor wright attended CITE trainings during
both Week 0s, completed eAcademy for her online course, attended the PAC-TE conference,
attended monthly virtual workshops on equity issues, and had training and meetings on
FeedbackFruits. We encourage Professor Wright to continue seeking out training related to
issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Comments highlighting the faculty member’s academic advising/student success

activities

Professor Wright advises in the education program. She was assigned 28 students in the fall in
27 students in the spring, a slightly higher load than most faculty. She is a user of the Navigate
system in communicates with her students.. She reports meeting with her students through Zoom

or through group advising, typically done in EDUC 111 and EDUC 110 classes. Professor
Wright also recruits and advises students in the workforce development CDA program.

Regarding student success initiatives, Professor Wright conducts recruiting sessions for
workforce development students and encourages them to matriculate into our credit program.
She is also assisted in providing coursework for students nearing graduation through independent
studies. We know that students need to progress in their program, and offering independent
studies is often the only way for a student to complete their coursework.

It’s noteworthy to add to her evaluation that Professor Wright has been intricately involved this
past year with Student Access Services. She has worked with other education instructors to
define what is an appropriate accommodation for students as compared to what the workplace
expects. We will continue to work with SAS staff as we seek accommodations that set students
up for success after they leave HACC

Overall Evaluation

Jennifer had another successful year at HACC. We appreciate her input when it comes to the
semester schedule, faculty qualifications, partnership initiatives, and her insight into student
needs. We look forward to another successful year with Jennifer and thank her for all that she
does for the education department!
