The Javan rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus), also known as the

Javan rhino, Sunda rhinoceros or lesser one-horned rhinoceros, is
a very rare member of the family Rhinocerotidae and one of five
extant rhinoceroses. It belongs to the same genus as the Indian
rhinoceros, and has similar mosaic, armour-like skin, but at
3.1–3.2 m in length and 1.4–1.7 m in height, it is smaller (closer
in size to the black rhinoceros of the genus Diceros). Its
horn is usually shorter than 25 cm , and is smaller than
those of the other rhino species.

Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas) is an extinct

sirenians described by Georg Wilhelm Steller in 1741.
At that time, it was found only around the Commander
Islands in the Bering Sea between Alaska and Russia; its
range extended across the North Pacific during the
Pleistocene epoch, and likely contracted to such an
extreme degree due to the glacial cycle.

Dinosaurs are a diverse group of reptiles[note 1] of the

clade Dinosauria. They first appeared during the Triassic
period, between 243 and 233.23 million years ago (mya),
although the exact origin and timing of the evolution of
dinosaurs is the subject of active research. They became
the dominant terrestrial vertebrates after the Triassic–Jurassic extinction event
201.3 mya; their dominance continued
throughout the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods.

The dodo (Raphus cucullatus) is an extinct flightless bird

that was endemic to the island of Mauritius, which is east of Madagascar in the
Indian Ocean. The dodo's closest genetic
relative was the also-extinct Rodrigues solitaire. The two
formed the subfamily Raphinae, a clade of extinct flightless
birds that were a part of the family including pigeons and
doves. The closest living relative of the dodo is the Nicobar
pigeon.

The vaquita (Phocoena sinus) is a species of porpoise

endemic to the northern end of the Gulf of California in Baja California, Mexico.
Averaging 150 cm ( (females) or 140 cm
(males) in length, it is the smallest of all living cetaceans.
The species is currently on the brink of extinction, and
currently listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN
Red List; the steep decline in abundance is primarily due
to bycatch in gillnets from the illegal totoaba fishery.
