Chromatic scales: The tonic note (1st and 8th in a scale) and the dominant (5th note in a scale)

will
only be written once. All the other notes will be written twice. You cannot use three notes with the
same letter name.

Left is how they look on the music, Right is how they look written out accurately.

Order of sharps and flats in different clefs:

Inversions: An inversion is just the order of the chord. You can work this out from looking at what
the note is at the bottom of the chord.

For example, in C major (CEG):


if C was at the bottom it would be called root position or a.
if E was at the bottom it would be called first inversion or b.
if G was at the bottom it would be called second inversion or c.

 Triplets: 3 in the time of 2


Duplets: 2 in the time of 3
