11.4 – Standard Deviation


 Standard deviation is a measure of spread. Similar to ________________
and _________________. Specifically, it measures the average distance
of each point/score to the mean.

 Use a calculator to find the standard deviation.

 It is also known as the square root of the variance.

 Know the difference between sample and population standard


deviation.

11.5 – Analysing Data


 When analysing data make sure to answer ‘key’ terms in a certain way.

 ‘Describe’ – must be answered with references to shape of the


distribution, central tendency and spread.

 ‘Compare’ – must be answered with references to similarities and


differences of everything mentioned in ‘describe’.

 You MUST include quantitative evidence to support your statements.

10.1 – Scatterplots
 An explanatory variable is known as an independent variable. A
response variable is known as a dependent variable.

 Be familiar with terms such as, strong, weak, positive, negative, linear,
non-linear and no trend.
