Q1. How many groups of vertebrates are there? Describe them with examples.

Ans. There are five groups of vertebrates .

1. Mammals:

a) Mammals are covered with fur or hair .

b) They give birth to their babies.


Examples : cow, goat , lion , human , whale , dolphin etc

2. Birds:

a) Birds have wings and feathers.

b) They lay eggs.

Examples : parrot , eagle, falcon , ostrich , hen etc.


3. Fish :

a) Fish live in water.

b) Their bodies are covered with scales.

Examples: catfish, goldfish , salmon etc.

4. Reptiles:

a) Reptiles are covered with dry scales.

b) They lay eggs.

Examples: snake, lizard , tortoise, crocodile.

5. Amphibians:

a) Amphibians can live in water and on land.

b)They have smooth and wet skin.

b) Examples : frog , toad , salamander

Q2. Give examples of some in vertebrates

Ans. Examples of invertebrates : worms , jellyfish , worms, crab, locust , beetle

Q3. Define the following terms.

Endoskeleton: The skeleton inside the body of animals.


Exoskeleton: The hard skin or shell on the outside of some invertebrates.
