Significance of Sustainable Development:

Sustainable development is working towards development keeping in mind the importance of
being responsible for the environment we live in. The basic idea of sustainable development is to
work for today while keeping in mind the needs of tomorrow. The importance of sustainable
development is that it meets the needs of the present generations without compromising on the
needs of the future generations. Sustainable development teaches us to use our resources in the
right way. Listed below are some points that tell us the importance of sustainable development-

Focuses on Sustainable Farming Methods – Sustainable development is important as it takes care

of the needs of future generations and ensures that the growing population does not burden
Mother Earth. It promotes agricultural techniques such as crop rotation and efficient seeding
techniques.

Manages to Stabilize the Climate – We are facing the problem of climate change due to the
excessive use of fossil fuels and the killing of the natural habitat of animals. Sustainable
development plays a major role in preventing climate change through sustainable development
practices. It promotes reducing the use of fossil fuels that release greenhouse gases that destroy
the atmosphere.
Provides for Vital human needs – Sustainable development promotes the idea of saving for future
generations and ensuring that resources are allocated to all. It is based on the principle of
developing an infrastructure that can be sustained over a long period of time.

Sustainable Biodiversity – If the process of Sustainable Development is followed, the homes and
habitats of all other living animals will not be lost. Since sustainable development focuses on
preserving the ecosystem, it automatically helps in maintaining and protecting biodiversity.

Financial stability – As sustainable development promises steady growth, the economies of

countries can be strengthened by using renewable sources of energy as compared to the use of
fossil fuels, of which there is only a particular amount on our planet.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

 Define and categorize various energy resources, including conventional energy resources,
coal and fossil fuels, renewable energy, and emerging trends in energy resoursing
technology.

 Identify the concept, aims, and significance of sustainable development.

 Foster a sense of global citizenship and the ethical responsibility to address energy-
related challenges to promote sustainability.

PRE-TEST
Refer to the traditional sources of energy that have been widely used for many years to meet the
world's energy demands.
-Conventional source of energy

One of the most essential components of the economic infrastructure.

-Energy

Non-renewable energy sources formed from the remains of ancient plants and animals.
-Fossil fuels

Refers to energy sources that can be replenished naturally within a relatively short period of
time.
-Renewable energy

A type of renewable energy derived from the sun's radiation. It involves capturing the sun's
energy and converting it into electricity or heat for various applications.
-Solar panel energy

Produced from a variety of organic materials, called biomass, such as wood, charcoal, dung and
other manures for heat and power production, and agricultural crops for liquid biofuels.
-Bioenergy

What is the number 5 in the 17 sustainable development goals?

-Gender equality

The process of Sustainable Development is followed, the homes and habitats of all other living
animals will not be lost.
-Sustainable Biodiversity

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for
all.
-Quality Education
As sustainable development promises steady growth, the economies of countries can be
strengthened by using renewable sources of energy as compared to the use of fossil fuels, of
which there is only a particular amount on our planet.
-Financial stability

DISCUSSION
https://www.pinterest.ph/shojaaurang/sustainable-development-goals/

Sustainability is about ensuring that future

generations will have access to clean air, water,
food security and other resources necessary for
their quality of life. The United Nations defined sustainable development in the Brundtland
Report as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs”. Sustainability is the ability to exist and develop
without depleting natural resources for the future.

Today we are using about 40% more resources every year than we can put back, an alarmingly
high and unsustainable amount. However, sustainable development encompasses more than just
the environment as it also includes the overall health of out society. It requires studying the
consequences of the actions people are taking today, and finding ways to improve these
outcomes.
