Appearance
Starrk has blue-gray eyes and wavy, dark brown hair, which ends at the base of his
neck, is always unkempt, and is parted down the middle. He has a faded goatee. His
clothing is typical of an Arrancar: he wears a white jacket outlined in black, though
altered with the collar upturned. A black sash is worn in a manner similar to a matador
around his waist and he wears white gloves. The remains of his Hollow mask consist of
a fanged bottom jaw which is positioned along his neck. His Hollow hole is on his
sternum, right below the tip of his mask. His Espada tattoo is featured on the back of his
left hand, which he conceals with his glove.
Personality
Starrk is a lazy and unenthusiastic man who spends much of his time asleep, and no
one, except Lilynette Gingerbuck, his other half, appears to try and stop him from doing
so.[2] Despite being the highest-ranking Espada, he is not eager to take a leadership
role, allowing Baraggan Louisenbairn to take over at the battle of the FakeKarakura
Town.[3] He is not particularly interested in whatever is going on around him, though he
is observant and a capable analyst. Unlike many of the Espada, he is not inherently
violent or overly arrogant.
Prior to meeting Aizen, Starrk hated the loneliness he felt in the world but often could
not avoid it because his mere presence killed off others around him. He envied the
weak and wanted to be like them because they could travel in groups. Eventually he felt
so lonely that he divided his soul into two separate beings to escape his
solitude.[4]From there he continued to search for friends until he met Aizen.[5]Despite
having gained many comrades after joining Aizen, he rarely directly addresses any of
them other than Lilynette.
He initially does not seem to care a great deal for his fellow Espada, showing no visible
signs of distress or concern. When he learns ofAaroniero Arruruerie's death, he lazily
states there is nothing he could do about it, and when Baraggan andTier Harribel are
apparently overwhelmed by their opponents' respective Bankai, he only asks Shunsui
Kyōrakuif all the captains' Bankai are so powerful.[6][7] However, this indifferent attitude
seems to be dispelled with Baraggan's death. Starrk states Sōsuke Aizen not sparing
even a word for Baraggan is horrible.[8] Starrk himself is notably affected by this turn of
events, being drained of his motivation to fight. After arguing with Lilynette for a while,
he states he is not the type for revenge, but his desire to not see any more comrades
die proves to be enough motivation for him to keep fighting.[9] Starrk seems to be
opposed to the notion of killing people, offering Love Aikawa and Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi a
chance to run away instead of finishing them off.[10]
Starrk often ends up in situations with him on the receiving end of physical abuse from
his partner Lilynette, even though he does little to stop her actions. He can be serious
on occasion, although his personality does not change much: he comes off as reluctant,
but nonetheless willing to complete the task at hand. Such is the case when he was
ordered to take back Orihime Inoue, despite saying he abhors such a strategy.[11] He is
fairly similar to Shunsui in personality, something Starrk himself acknowledges.[12]
Equipment
Starrk's sword.
Master Marksman: Starrk is quite skilled with his pistols when released. He can fire
very precise Ceros while fighting more than one opponent, and can launch a continuous
barrage of Ceros which even captain-class fighters have difficulty avoiding.[40] He
skillfully used them to block at close range against Love Aikawa.[41]
Sonído Master: Starrk's skill and speed in Sonído is so great, it seems as though he
possesses a form of teleportation, simply appearing solidly instead of shimmering for a
second like other Sonído users. He avoided both Kenpachi Zaraki and Ichigo
Kurosaki in order to recapture Orihime Inoue, returning her to Sōsuke Aizen within an
instant.[44] His proficiency with Sonído allows him to create multiple after-images of
himself to confuse the enemy.[45] He surprised Jūshirō Ukitake by appearing next to
him after dodging an attack faster than his own post-release Cero.[46] He also evaded
various attacks by the Visored Love and Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi, along with attacks from
Shunsui while fighting them.[47]
Cero: His Cero is blue in color. While a standard ability for Arrancar, Starrk's abilities
with it are very unique. As noted by Shunsui, unlike other Arrancar, he can apparently
fire a Cero without a "fighting pose", meaning he can fire it without any warning from
body gestures. Starrk can charge and fire it rather quickly, leaving even less time for his
target to react.[48] He can fire his Cero from various points on his body, such as from
either hand, his chin, and his chest.[49][50]
Soul-Separation: Starrk has the unique ability to separate his soul due to his immense
spiritual energy. His spiritual energy splits and turns itself into another being, which
reacts to his spiritual signature.[58]
Second Being
Los Lobos (群狼 (ロス・ロボス), Rosu Robosu; Spanish for "The Wolves," Japanese
for "Wolf Pack"): Unlike all other known Arrancar, Starrk's enormous power is not sealed
in the form of a Zanpakutō. Instead, it is sealed in the form of another Arrancar, his own
subordinate, Lilynette Gingerbuck, who, while a separate, distinct being, is an actual
part of him.[59]
Los Lobos released.
Resurrección Special Ability: Starrk's released form grants him new abilities and
enhances his existing ones.
Enhanced Cero Firing: Starrk can fire Ceros from his guns.[63] He claims he
can fire 1,000 of these Ceros at once.[64]
Starrk using Cero Metralleta.
Enhanced Hierro: Starrk's Hierro is enhanced in this form. After taking a direct
hit from Love's immense Shikai, Tengumaru, and being sent crashing into the
town below, Starrk ended up lying practically unharmed among the rubble while
uttering only a halfhearted "ow" in response to the attack.[67]
Starrk appears in the video game Bleach: Flame Bringer (along with Lilynette) as the
final boss of survival mode, but he does not use his Resurrección, nor is he a playable
character. He appears in Bleach: Heat the Soul 7 as a playable character, utilizing his
chest-fired Cero as one of his attacks. He uses his Resurrección,Los Lobos, as one of
his attacks, in which he releases (with Lilynette) and uses his spirit wolves to attack his
opponents. His Cero is colored grey rather than blue. In Bleach: Soul Resurrección, he
is playable in his Resurrección, using Cero Metralleta as his ultimate technique. In this
game, his wolf-summoning technique, despite not having an official name, is
called Camarada (Spanish for "Comrade").
Trivia
When Starrk remembers his Espada comrades right before his death, Yammy
Llargo does not appear in the flashback at all.
In Starrk's original appearance with a sword, the sword is shown with an intricate
handle; why the handle's design was changed is currently unknown.
Quotes
(To Lilynette Gingerbuck after hearing about Aaroniero Arruruerie's death) "What
do you want me to do about it?"[73]
(About Lilynette) "The two of us are one and the same. Whilst when other
Hollows became Arrancar, their Hollow powers separated into the form of 'body'
and 'blade', we separated into two separate bodies. It is when we are reunited
that our power is truly released."[74]
(To Shunsui Kyōraku) "I've gone to the trouble of pulling out this damn release.
I'm going to see your Bankai if I have to drag it out of you."[75]
(To Lilynette) "Like I said, this ain't my thing. Let's just forget it. It's not like Aizen-
sama feels like lending us a hand either. Those guys are strong. I get that
already. No point fighting when it's just gonna mean more dying. So can we just
go home and sleep now?"[76]
(To Love Aikawa and Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi) "Ready to give it up? If you run, I'll let
you go."[77]
(To Love and Rose) "I see. Nothing for it, then. Not that I'm too fond of the idea,
but I'll have to finish you off."[77]
"Why do I have to fight with a strong guy like this? I always envied the weak.
Whenever we made friends, their souls would waste away just from being near
us. Because we were so alone, we split our soul in two. I don't know which was
our original form. Or perhaps, it was neither. But this was the only way we had to
escape from our isolation. I so envied the weak. The weak can always find others
to be around. I want to be weak. And if that's impossible, I at least want to find
companions who are as strong as I."[78]
"I'm not alone. I'm not alone. I'm not alone any more..."[79]

Appearance
Baraggan has the appearance of an elderly man, with a white mustache and white hair.
His face is lined by large scars on the left side of his chin and across his right eye.
Despite his aged appearance, Baraggan is quite stocky and muscular, and when
standing (albeit with the slouch of an elderly person), he is of a fair size. He wears a
regal white leather coat with black fur lining, short sleeves, and three black fur stripes
running along the bottom. He wears a golden wristband on both wrists, and a belt
consisting of three thick chains attached to a large metal disk with a sun emblem.
Overall, he resembles a barbarian lord (of Viking origin). The location of his Espada
tattoo is unknown. His Hollow hole is in the center of his chest.[3] The remnants of his
Hollow mask take the form of a five-pointed crown just above his forehead.
When he was the King of Hueco Mundo, his crown had four elegant protrusions, which
were ornately decorated.[4]
Personality
Baraggan is boastful, arrogant, stubborn, and serious. He does not hesitate to impose
his perceived authority over others, having taken the role of leader after Sōsuke
Aizen was trapped; he even goes as far as to openly challenge two other
powerful Espada, including one higher in rank than himself to disagree.[5] Baraggan
refers to Aizen as "the Boss"[6] and to his opponents as "ants";[7] his Fracción refer to
him as "his majesty".[8] He does not carry his Zanpakutō himself - his Fracción take
care of it, as well as his throne.[9] He analyzes situations quickly and calmly, such as
finding the four pillars keeping the real Karakura Town in Soul Society.[10]
Baraggan's arrogance stems from him being the former King ofHueco Mundo prior to
Aizen's ascension[11] and being able to control time, specifically aging.[12]
As the Espada of Old Age, Baraggan possesses a sense of fatalism which comes from
his power, bragging about how death by aging is something which the mind cannot
fathom except for it being inevitable, even for Shinigami.[13] He states everything which
can exist for a lifetime cannot exist forever: even the word "forever" is meaningless, for
it was born out of the fear of death.[14] This philosophy makes Baraggan quite
merciless against his enemies, rotting the flesh from their bodies.[15] Despite all of
Baraggan's bragging, Hachigen Ushōda suggests that Baraggan is simply another life
form that fears old age and tried to escape it; Baraggan himself claimed that he will
never die.[16]
For all his pride and power, Baraggan is easily angered. Whenever this happens, he
flies into a blind rage, and starts cursing at his opponents.[17][18] He will go completely
all out in trying to attack the offender and anyone else in the way, even against all
odds.[19] Baraggan has held a grudge against Aizen since the day he met him, and his
final act was an attempt on Aizen's life, which proved to be in vain.[20]
Immense Spiritual Power: As a member of the top four Espada, Baraggan is forbidden
to release his Zanpakutō inside Las Noches because such a release could destroy the
entire fortress.[49] His spiritual power is dark red.[50] It was powerful enough to send a
shockwave across the fake Karakura Town when he exerted it.[51] As he was known as
the King of Hueco Mundo, his powers were vast and well known.[52]
Keen Intellect: Baraggan is a perceptive man, deducing the Jūreichi was a fake and
the four pillars needed to be destroyed in order to reveal the real Karakura Town. He
seemed to be aware of the exact locations of the pillars.[10] He is just as perceptive in
battle, seeing through Suì-Fēng's attack strategy.[48]
Sonído: Baraggan can use Sonído, though his exact level of skill with it is unknown. He
has used the technique very sparingly, employing it only to appear before Marechiyo
Ōmaeda as he fled, and to evade an unsuspected attack.[54][48]
Zanpakutō
Baraggan's Zanpakutō.
Baraggan's Resurrección,Arrogante.
Resurrección Special Ability: In this form, Baraggan's natural abilities are enhanced.
Gran Caída (滅亡の斧 (グラン・カイダ), guran kaida; Spanish for "Great Fall",
Japanese for "Axe of Ruin"): Baraggan wields a Resurrección form of his original
double-bladed axe, which he keeps hidden within his cloak. It is the same axe he
used as the King of Hueco Mundo, before he became an Arrancar. The axe itself
has a much slimmer and darker appearance than its predecessor. It sports two
pointed blades and a large spike protruding outwards from its center, in place of
the now-absent slit-eye pendant. There are four golden chains present around
the base of the spike, which extend into his cloak and attach to an ornate
bracelet worn around his right wrist. Just as before, he wields the axe with a
single hand. Baraggan uses this in an attempt to finish Ōmaeda off, referring to it
as Ōmaeda's "guillotine".[67] As Barragan died, he threw the corroding Gran
Caída as a projectile at Aizen in a final attempt for revenge.[20]
Fracción
Baraggan's Fracción.
Choe Neng Poww (チーノン・ポウ, Chīnon Pō)[68]: A large Arrancar who was
sent to deal with Ikkaku Madarame. Though he defeated Ikkakuand landed a
powerful hit on Captain Sajin Komamura, he was crushed and killed under
Komamura's Bankai.
Trivia
Baraggan never once referred to himself as an Espada, and was only confirmed
as the second Espada by Coyote Starrk (albeit indirectly), making him the only
Espada to have his rank confirmed by someone else.[69]
Quotes
(To Coyote Starrk and Tier Harribel) "Until the Boss gets out of there, I'll be
giving the orders round here. Anyone got a problem with that?"[71]
(To Ggio Vega and Nirgge Parduoc) "Kill them. Do not allow even a single one of
these ants to escape with his life. If you lose here, there will be no place for you
to return to. Do not disappoint me. Do not force me to walk a path not stained
with the blood of my enemies. Say it! Who do you serve?"[72]
(To Suì-Fēng) "You seem to be having difficulty grasping the nature of the ability
I possess. Each of the Espada holds dominion over a different form of death. The
ten different paths that can lead a human to death. This is reflected in their
individual abilities, their ideologies, and forms the basis of their existence.
Isolation. Sacrifice. Emptiness. Despair. Destruction. Intoxication. Insanity.
Avarice. Rage. And the form of death over which I hold dominion is 'age'. 'Age',
that is to say, 'time'. The greatest, and most absolute form. The death that
inevitably awaits all things."[73]
(To Marechiyo Ōmaeda) "Hmph. It would appear you have nothing left to
entertain me with, no matter how much I let you run about. Time to put an end to
this."[74]
(To Hachigen Ushōda) "It matters not who you are or what manner of power you
may possess. Before the power I wield, all beings are equal. Come. It is time that
you too were reduced to naught but bones."[75]
(To Hachigen Ushōda) "I suppose 'buying time' in the face of one who holds
dominion over 'age' is a similar action to spitting in the face of God. Perhaps I
should congratulate you on your nerve, lesser beings though you are."[76]
(To Suì-Fēng and Hachigen Ushōda) "To think that you could injure me to such
an extent... I will never forgive you, impudent insects! Regret your boundless
insolence as you turn to dust before me!"[17]
(To his army) "How tedious this all is. There is nothing more meaningless than an
army with no enemy to fend off. Do you not agree? My subjects. Though, little
point asking when none of you would dare but concur."[78]
(To Sōsuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru, and Kaname Tōsen) "I was just beginning to
succumb to boredom. Had you not appeared here today, I might have divided my
own army in two and had them slaughter among themselves."[79]
(To Sōsuke Aizen) "I will kill you. Kill you with my own hands. You will regret ever
granting me this power. I am King. I am God. I am undying. I will never cease in
my attempts to take your life, Sōsuke Aizen."[80]

Tier Harribel (ティア・ハリベル, Tia Hariberu; Viz: Tier Halibel) is an Arrancar and the
former Tres (No. 3) Espada in Sōsuke Aizen's army until the latter's defeat. Sometime
after Aizen's defeat, she becomes the new ruler of Hueco Mundo.[2][3]
Contents
[show]
Appearance
Harribel has dark skin, green eyes, blonde eyelashes, and messy short blonde hair with
three braided locks. She wears a variation of the Arrancar jacket with a high collar,
which covers the lower part of her face downward, while baring a good portion of the
lower half of her large breasts. The jacket has a zipper running along its entire length,
which is opened from the bottom upwards. The jacket's sleeves completely envelop her
arms, terminating in black glove-like extensions at her extremities, resembling the
appearance of a cat's paw.
The remnants of her Hollow mask consist of the sides of her face, her mouth, and an
extensive area below and around her neck extending down to, and also covering, her
nipples. She usually hides these remnants from view with her jacket. Her Espada tattoo
is placed on the left side of her right breast. The location of her Hollow hole is in her
lower abdomen where her womb would be.[4] Her appearance before she became an
Arrancar mostly resembled her released state, but most of her body and face was
covered by white Hollow bones, and her weapon was part of her arm, but her hair and
eyes were exposed.[5]
Personality
Harribel is calm, taciturn, level-headed, and analytical, preferring to not engage in
combat: she is content with silently observing both parties until the fighting reaches its
conclusion.[6] She strongly opposes the notion of killing others, especially if done to
gain power,[7] but when she is betrayed by Sōsuke Aizen, Harribel angrily attacks him,
proving she can be quite aggressive and brutal.[8] Harribel cares for her Fracción, being
noticeably upset when she senses their presences fading, and angrily assaults Tōshirō
Hitsugaya seconds after their defeat at the hands of Captain-Commander Genryūsai
Shigekuni Yamamoto.[9] Prior to her betrayal by him, she viewed Aizen and his powers
in high regard.[10]
Highly Perceptive Combatant: While a woman of few words, Harribel has proven to be
an intuitive fighter. She can see through a person's demeanor to determine what they
are thinking about. During the battle between Ichigo and Grimmjow, she noted how the
two were similar, especially in terms of Reiatsu.[39] Her keen intellect and intuition is
proven in her initial fight with Hitsugaya, where she saw through his icy demeanor and
identified his concern for his lieutenant. She sensed a small wavering in Hitsugaya's
Reiatsu when the arrival of Momo Hinamori concerned him.[40]
Master Tactician: Harribel held her own in a fight against Hitsugaya, who used his
abilities to counter her own, by taking advantage of his attacks for her own
purposes.[41]
Harribel's wide Cero.
Cero: Charging a yellow Cero along her sword, Harribel can fire it in a very wide arc,
following the arc of her sword swing.[42]
Zanpakutō
Harribel's Zanpakutō.
Tiburón (皇鮫后 (ティブロン), Tiburon; Spanish for "Shark", Japanese for "Imperial
Shark Empress"): In its sealed state, Harribel's Zanpakutō, while not particularly long, is
unusually wide, and has the distinction of being completely hollow in the middle,
essentially consisting of nothing more than the edges of what would otherwise be a
normal sword. Its handle is purple, and its guard is as wide as its blade, with three small
holes on either end, which Harribel uses to unsheathe it. The sword is longer than its
sheath, and is worn horizontally on her upper back.[46]
Ola Azul.
Ola Azul (波蒼砲 (オーラ・アズール), Ōra Azūru; Spanish for "Blue Wave", Japanese
for "Blue Wave Gun"): Pulling her sword back as it gathers yellow Reiryoku within the
hollow portion of the blade, Harribel launches it towards her opponent in the form of an
energy blade projectile.[47] She can keep the energy concentrated within the hollow
portion of the blade, and unleash it in the shape of a ribbon when attacking.[48]
Harribel's Resurrección,Tiburón.
Resurrección Special Ability: In this form, Harribel's natural abilities are enhanced.
Water Manipulation: Her primary ability in this form is the creation and
manipulation of water.[25] The water used for her attacks is generated by the gill
markings on her blade.[50]
Trident (トライデント, Toraidento)[51]: Harribel infuses her sword with
Reiryoku, causing it to glow, and fires a high-force slash from her sword in a
series of three shots. Upon contact, it can cause severe damage, cutting an
opponent in half with ease.[52]
La Gota (戦雫 (ラ・ゴータ), Ra Gota; Spanish for "The Drop", Japanese for
"War Drop") Harribel can condense large amounts of water around her blade
before firing it as a blast which resembles a shark tooth. She can fire multiple
blasts in rapid succession with relative ease. The blasts strike with enough force
to demolish houses.[50]
Fracción
Harribel appears as a playable character in Bleach: Heat the Soul 6 without her
Resurrección. Her Resurrección first appears in Bleach: Heat the Soul 7, and again
in Bleach: Soul Resurrección, where she can use Cortando (Spanish for "Cutting"),
where Harribel fires a horizontal Cero from her sword in an arc, and
hasRequiem (Réquiem), where she fires dozens of water spheres at an opponent, as
her Ignition Attack.
Apocrypha
Content which was written in novel format by an author other than Tite Kubo.
The Arrancar were greeted by Kukkapūro, the Hollow dog, whom they recognized
as Yammy Llargo's companion. Feeling what was left of Yammy's Reiatsu, Harribel and
the others determined the powerful Espada fought with all his might before dying. They
realized the Adjuchas Hollows had detected their presence and would arrive shortly, for
they were now able to approach Las Noches due to the absence of the powerful
Espada. All four understood it would not be long before the fighting normal to the
Hollows of Hueco Mundo would begin again. Harribel became distressed at the
concept, for preventing it was her reasoning for joining Aizen, but now it would return,
and she could not stop it from happening. Cyan Sung-Sun suggested now thatBaraggan
Louisenbairn was dead and Aizen was gone, she should rule Hueco Mundo in their
place. Franceska Mila Rose and Apacci agreed it would be the best course of action,
but Harribel disagreed, stating a fake sun could not bring light to the darkness of Hueco
Mundo, and all which is truly needed is the silent darkness. Harribel began to make her
way toward Las Noches, with her loyal Fracción following behind.[58]
Censorship
Due to censorship, Harribel's design was modified slightly between the anime and
manga. In the anime, Harribel's outfit is extended to fully cover her breasts, and her
pants reveal less of her thighs, but when she attended the creation ofWonderweiss
Margela, the underside of her breasts is visible. This implies the change to her outfit
was made later. During the revealing of her Espada rank tattoo in the anime, the
remnants of Harribel's hollow mask are extended to cover the underside of her breasts.
Notice the black stripe on the jacket which shows where the original bottom of the jacket
was and where her original mask fragments ended. In her released form, her nipple
coverings are extended to cover the undersides of her breasts, and extend around back
like a bra. Her skirt is extended, with triangular points at the end, and the area of
darkness underneath is expanded.

Quotes
(To Emilou Apacci, Franceska Mila Rose, and Cyan Sung-Sun) "Don't worry
about it. This is the battle of an Espada in his Resurrección form. It's not
unreasonable for you to be frightened. That's your primal fear. Value it."[61]
(To Tōshirō Hitsugaya) "You stood no chance. With the bite of a shark, a dragon
of ice shall sink beneath the waves."[63]
(To Tōshirō Hitsugaya) "If my water can become your own weapon, then the
moment you realized this, you should also have considered the opposite
possibility. That is the way of battle."[65]
(To Tōshirō Hitsugaya) "Our existence is built upon the noble sacrifices made.
Instead, you fall in battle from trying to protect your subordinates. My
subordinates were not simply defeated. They left behind markers for me, on how
to carry on the fight. If I had lost, my subordinates' sacrifices would have all been
for nothing. I hold within me the resolve of those who sacrificed their lives."[5]
(To Emilou Apacci) "We women are easy prey for the males. I brought you here
because I thought that it would be better if we worked in a group, rather than
working alone."[7]
(To Emilou Apacci) "I don't want to become stronger through the power I gain by
killing and sacrificing another. If I can't win alone, then I'll win as a group."[7]
(To Emilou Apacci, Franceska Mila Rose, and Cyan Sung-Sun) "No world is

of our own."[7]

of Arrancar.

[show]
Appearance
Ulquiorra's initial appearance. At this time, his Hollow hole had a
different location.
Ulquiorra is a slender, yet fairly muscular, male Arrancar of average height with a melancholic
appearance. He has fairly short, messy black hair, pale white skin, a black upper lip, and green eyes with
small slit-shaped pupils, similar to a cat's. Part of his bangs falls between his eyes, and he has
distinctively thick eyebrows. He has teal lines which descend from the lower part of his eyes. His facial
expression rarely changes, though he is almost always frowning. He wears typical Arrancar clothes: a
white jacket, black sash, and a white hakama. However, his jacket has longer coattails than others, and
the collar is higher.
Like most other Arrancar, he possesses remnants of his former life as a Hollow in his appearance. His
Hollow hole is located on hissternum,[3] though the hole was initially located on the base of his throat.
The remainder of his Hollow mask lies on the top-left side of his head, forming a broken horned helmet.
His Espada tattoo lies on the left side of his chest.[4]
As a Hollow, Ulquiorra was roughly the same size, with a full white mask and body, and large black wings
mounted on his lower back. His mask covered his entire face, with a line, running up the middle,
diverging into three near the top of his head. From ear level, two horns sprouted out.[5]
Personality
Ulquiorra is a very cold, callous, and dispassionate figure, and is rather aloof, brooding, and indifferent,
willing to harm both his comrades and enemies should they get in his way. He refers to anyone he does
not find interesting as "trash", and treats them as expendable. Despite this, like most of the other top
Espada, he is not particularly violent, and will only fight when provoked or ordered to by Aizen.
As stated by Grimmjow, Ulquiorra demonstrates a strange habit when killing victims he is particularly
interested in; he stabs them with his bare hand in the same location as his Hollow hole.[6] Whether he is
consciously aware of this habit or not is unknown. During a speech to Orihime, he claims he does not
believe in Human emotions, which he refers to as the "heart," reasoning that if his eye cannot see them,
they do not exist. These words, and much of Ulquiorra's overall behavior, reflect the concepts
of materialism, which connects to his aspect of death as an Espada, Emptiness. In the last seconds of his
life, he seems to finally find his own "heart", and understands feelings.
His cold demeanor allows him to stay completely calm and in control in most situations, and he is not
easily surprised or caught off-guard. However, he does not seem to comprehend the Human trait of
fighting against all odds or the concept of the Human heart; during his final battle with Ichigo, he
completely overwhelms the Shinigami after releasing his Zanpakutō, yet Ichigo continues to fight on
regardless of this. Because of this, he, shouting at Ichigo out of frustration, tells him "to continue
fighting is pointless." He transforms into his Segunda Etapa form in an attempt to show Ichigo "true
despair". He seems to contradict himself, telling Ichigo that although it is natural for Humans to mimic
Hollows to become stronger, they will never be the equal of Hollows, though the Arrancar are doing
much of the same by mimicking Shinigami.[7]
Ulquiorra is highly perceptive, cunning, and analytical. During his and Yammy's first visit to the Human
World, he makes several surprisingly accurate comments on the Humans who confronted them. He
theorizes Orihime Inoue's healing power is a temporal-spatial ability, which Aizen later describes as the
rejection of fate, and comments on how Ichigo Kurosaki's Bankai can easily cut through Yammy's
defenses. He notes how Ichigo's power fluctuates, varying between very weak and stronger than his
own.
Ulquiorra is very demanding, coming to Orihime's chamber and ordering her to eat a meal an Arrancar
servant brought in, claiming that, for Aizen's benefit, it was her "duty" to stay alive. When Orihime
hesitates, he threatens to force the food down her throat or strap her to a table and feed her via an IV.
This implies that, while he prefers not to dirty his hands, Ulquiorra is fully capable of committing truly
abhorrent and inhumane actions without feeling any shred of remorse or hesitation.
After Ichigo's Hollow form overwhelms and strikes him down during his last battle, Ulquiorra,
maintaining his composure, calmly berates himself for being defeated by a "Human-turned-Hollow."
Believing he no longer has a purpose in life since he was quickly defeated by his opponent, he,
demanding Ichigo kill him, compliments Ichigo when he decides to use a point-blank Cero to kill him,
claiming the lack of mercy is "rather Hollow-like." This is a marked departure from most of his fellow
Arrancar, who died cursing their enemies or with an abject fear of death.
Master Swordsman: Though he rarely engages in it, Ulquiorra is highly skilled in swordsmanship. He
possesses flawless precision, and uses his speed to inflict lethal attacks without much
effort.[58] Ulquiorra prefers to wield his sword with his right hand, leaving the other hand free, though
it usually remains in his pocket. He fended off Ichigo using his Hollow mask-enhanced Bankai long
enough to reach the top of Las Noches, though his Zanpakutō was nearly broken.[59]
Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Ulquiorra mostly relies on hand-to-hand combat, rarely drawing his
sword at all. Ichigo speculates he only draws his sword against opponents he considers "worthy".
Ulquiorra seems to prefer an off-the-ground method of combat, often attacking opponents from aerial
standpoints, such as when he attempted to use his Cero on an offending Grimmjow by attacking him
from the air above his head, or when he jumped upwards with Sonído in an attempt to catch Ichigo off-
guard during their most recent confrontation.[60] His trademark attack towards prey he likes is to
impale them in the chest, gouging a hole in them in the same place as his own.[61][62]
Sonído Master: One of Ulquiorra's more noticeable traits is his tremendously skillful speed.[63][64] He
caught up with Ichigo after kicking him from a tower in a few moments.[65] He can skillfully keep up
with Ichigo's Bankaispeed.[66] Ulquiorra moves at an excessively fast speed in combat, so fast Ichigo
found it hard to even discern his movements at first.[67][68] He remained able to use Sonído while
being burdened with the absence of most of his left leg.[69]
Cero: Ulquiorra can fire Cero from his fingers with excessively destructive power. His Cero can be
charged and fired relatively fast, and is green instead of red, which is the most common color of a Cero.
The force of the blast can send an opponent hurtling long distances, effectively destroying any obstacle
in its path at great range.[70][71] He can fire it from either hand.[72]
Keen Intellect: In addition to his remarkable combat prowess, Ulquiorra is gifted with great insight and
understanding of situations at hand. His intelligence is something Aizen, a man arguably best known for
his intellect, harbors respect for, as he sent Ulquiorra to investigate Ichigo's power and threat level.
With his calm and collected nature, Ulquiorra is highly perceptive and analytical, deducing the basic idea
of his opponent's skills to figure out their strengths and weaknesses.[73][74][75]
Bala: This technique hardens the user's spiritual pressure and fires it like a bullet from their fist.
Ulquiorra's Bala is red,[76] and is powerful enough to blast a huge hole into two unseated Shinigami.[77]
Enhanced Hierro: The hardened skin of the Arrancar, which is a result of their compressed spiritual
power. Ulquiorra's skin is highly durable, even by Arrancar standards. He can deflect attacks of similar
power barehanded. He can defeat Ichigo with his Bankai and Hollow mask on without unsheathing his
sword, rendering Ichigo defenseless with two attacks and not sustaining injuries of any kind. The best
example of his Hierro's might is him taking a direct slash from Ichigo's Tensa Zangetsu with only a minor
cut on his chest, while his fellow Espada Yammy Llargo lost an arm from the same
opponent.[78][79][80][81]
Enhanced Pesquisa: The Arrancar ability to sense spiritual energy. While any Arrancar can learn it,
Ulquiorra possesses impressive skill with it. From a single glance at his opponent, Ulquiorra can
immediately determine how powerful his opponent is.[82] He can comprehend the flow and
concentration of the person's energy, instantly noticing Ichigo's energy was fluctuating due to his inner
Hollow.[83]
Enhanced Strength: Ulquiorra is deceptively mighty for his slim build. He can physically injure Yammy,
an Espada known primarily for his physical strength, with no visible effort.[84] He can upturn huge
portions of rock floor with a single strike at the ground with his sword.[85] With a single kick, Ulquiorra
sent Ichigo flying a tremendous distance away.[86]
High-Speed Regeneration: Despite having great speed, durability, and attack power, Ulquiorra's greatest
strength lies in his regenerative power. It is first displayed when he removes and crushes one of his eyes
and is later seen with two eyes again, which Yammy comments on to this effect. This is displayed once
more in his battle against Ichigo's evolved Hollow form, where he regenerates the arm Ichigo tore off.
Ulquiorra states it is his greatest power, one which most Arrancar give up in return for greater strength.
He explains he can quickly regenerate any part of his body except for his brain and internal organs.[87]
Solita Vista (共眼界 (ソリタ・ヴィスタ), Sorita Visuta; Spanish for "Accustomed View", Japanese for
"All-Eyes World"): This ability allows Ulquiorra to replay events he has seen to others by removing and
crushing an eye, which turns into dust and flows around those he intends to use it on. The dust relays his
sight and feelings.[88]
Immense Spiritual Power: His spiritual power is immensely high. As the fourth Espada, he is forbidden
to release his Zanpakutō within Las Noches, as such a release could destroy the fortress.[89] During his
first visit to Karakura Town, he compared his spiritual power to that of Ichigo Kurosaki, a Shinigami with
exceedingly high spiritual energy, and states Ichigo's energy at its peak is higher than his own, but
fluctuates.[90] His Reiatsu is green.[91]
Ulquiorra opens a Garganta.
Descorrer (解空 (デスコレール), Desukorēru; Japanese for "Loosed Void", Spanish for "Drawing
Back/Opening"):[92] A technique used by Espada-levelArrancar, and sometimes others, to open
a Garganta between the Human World and Hueco Mundo.[93]
Garganta Broadcast: Ulquiorra can create a visual broadcast, similar to a television screen, using
individual Garganta portals. He uses this technique to show the current predicament of
Orihime's friends (Ichigo,Tōshirō Hitsugaya, and Rangiku Matsumoto) fighting their respective
battles.[94]
Zanpakutō
Murciélago (黒翼大魔 (ムルシエラゴ), Murushierago; Spanish for "Bat", Japanese for "Black-Winged
Great Demon"): Ulquiorra's Zanpakutō is a standard sized katana with a green handle and sheath. The
guard has two curved extensions from its long sides with a line going through both sides, giving it an
eye-like appearance.
Murciélago released.
Resurrección Special Ability: He gains even greater physical abilities in this form. Ulquiorra has the
unique ability to enter a second released form called Resurrección: Segunda Etapa.
Luz de la Luna (ルス・デ・ラ・ルナ, Rusu de ra Runa; Spanish for "Light of the Moon"): He can
generate green energy javelins.[97] He can use them as ranged weapons, throwing them at an
opponent, and as a melee weapon. It can be used in his Segunda Etapa form.[98]
Enhanced Speed: His speed is greatly enhanced, moving great distances in an instant as if to
displace himself, and pushing Ichigo to the point where his Hollow mask-enhanced Bankai has
difficulty keeping up.[99]
Enhanced Hierro: His Hierro has vastly increased in strength, to the point where a Getsuga
Tenshō with Ichigo's mask activated has no effect at all.[100]
Enhanced Spiritual Power: Though already possessing immense spiritual power, in his
Resurrección, his black and green spiritual energy permeates the area. It is intense enough to
create a profound effect on others and coalesce into green rain which falls in the surrounding
area when he releases.[101]
Cero Oscuras.
Cero Oscuras (黒虚閃 (セロ・オスキュラス), sero osukyurasu; Spanish for "Dark Zero",
Japanese for "Black Hollow Flash"): It is a black Cero with a green outline, which Ulquiorra states
to be similar to Ichigo's black Getsuga Tenshō. Ulquiorra's Cero Oscuras is powerful enough to
blast Ichigo's mask away and destroy a large part of the city-sized Las Noches' dome. Ulquiorra
refers to it as "our Cero". It can be used in his Segunda Etapa form.[102]
Ulquiorra's Resurrección: Segunda Etapa.
Latigo (ラティーゴ, Ratīgo; Spanish for "Point of a Whip"): He can use his very long, thin, and
powerful tail as a whip or to lift, strike, and strangle a victim.[105][106]
Censorship
In the manga, during his fight with Hollow Ichigo, the latter throws his amputated arm at him.[110] In
the anime however, a large boulder is thrown instead.[111]
Ulquiorra is the first Arrancar to be featured in a Bleach video game, appearing in the Bleach: Heat the
Soul 3, Bleach: Heat the Soul 4, Bleach: Heat the Soul 5, and Bleach: Heat the Soul 6 installments of
the Bleach: Heat the Soul series for the PlayStation Portable. He appears in the Wii fighting game Bleach:
Shattered Blade, and is playable in the recent Bleach: Versus Crusade in which he remains unchanged
from the prequel. His Resurrección: Segunda Etapa is playable for the first time ever in Bleach: Soul
Carnival 2 on PSP, and again later in Bleach: Heat the Soul 7. He has a cameo and artwork in Bleach: Dark
Souls, and is featured in the Bleach DS game Bleach: The 3rd Phantom. In Bleach: The 3rd Phantom, he is
capable of using a skill called Expiacion(Spanish for "Atonement/Expiation"), a powerful technique
where a black 'X' is formed which damages not only his foes, but himself as well if he gets caught in it,
with an aftermath of holding down his opponents who are in range of the attack. In Bleach: Soul
Resurrección, Ulquiorra is playable in his Segunda Etapa form, and can use Tromba (Spanish for
"Whirlwind"), where he rapidly flies around the enemy in a circle while leaving damaging green energy
behind him, and Vuello Oscuras (Spanish for "Dark Flight"), where he flies forward and loop-de-loops
before surging forward, damaging all enemies in his path. Ulquiorra has his own character album as part
of the Bleach Beat Collection 3rd Session. The three vocal tracks are titled CRUSH the "WORLD"
DowN, Our World, and "Voice Message". In Bleach: The Hell Verse, Ulquiorra is featured briefly in the
opening, as a flashback to his fight with Ichigo is re-enacted. [112]
Trivia
He was voted the 10th most popular character in the most recent popularity poll with 3751
votes.
His theme song, as chosen by Tite Kubo, is "Moonshield," on the album "The Jester Race" by the
group "In Flames."
Ulquiorra's name stems from that of Patricia Urquiola, a Spanish architect and designer.[115]
Ulquiorra's first appearance in the manga was considerably different from his later appearances
in the manga and the anime. He had thinner eyelashes, a lack of black borders on his coat, a
higher Hollow hole, a longer Hollow mask remnant with a notable crack, and shorter hair. He
was more prone to making facial expressions, conflicting with his melancholic demeanor.
Ulquiorra appears to have dark-colored nails in the manga, but in the anime, they appear to be
normal-colored.
Ulquiorra's death was voted the most impactful scene of the year by the fans, and was played
on the screen in Jump Festa 2009, with Tite Kubo present.
In the Bleach best bout poll, Ulquiorra's final fight with Ichigo came in second place.[116]
Quotes
(To Orihime Inoue) "The fact that you only have two escorts is a bit anticlimactic, but having
those annoying walls fixed in place suits me just fine, since rushing a conversation isn't really in
my nature."[117]
(To Orihime Inoue) "Do not ask any questions. Do not say anything. You have no rights. What
you hold in your hand is the rope to the guillotine above your friends' necks. Nothing more.
Understand, girl. This is not a negotiation, it's an order."[118]
(To Orihime Inoue) "What would you have me say? 'Don't worry, I'm sure he's still alive'?
Ridiculous. I am not here to comfort you. I don't understand: why are you so fixated on life and
death? At any rate, your friends will soon be annihilated. So what if that's one step closer? They
should have seen this coming from the start. If they couldn't see it coming, the fault lies in their
own foolishness. Laughing them off as a group of idiots would be sufficient. Why can't you do
that? If it were me, and my friends entered Hueco Mundo without first gauging their strength, I'd
be infuriated by their stupidity."[119]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Even if you rise up a thousand times, there will be no victory for any of
you."[120]
(To Orihime Inoue) "Hearts, you say? You Humans are always so quick to speak of such things.
As though you carry your hearts in the very palms of your hands. But this eye of mine perceives
all. There is nothing that it overlooks. If this eye cannot see a thing, then it does not exist. That is
the assumption under which I have always fought. What is this "heart"? If I tear open that chest
of yours, will I see it there? If I smash open that skull of yours, will I see it there?" [121]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Do not allow yourself to be shaken. Do not weaken your stance. Open your
senses. And do not let your guard down for an instant."[122]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "No matter how your appearance and techniques may resemble those of an
Arrancar, it is as distant from us as the Earth from the sky. It is an understandable route for
humans and Shinigami who wish to obtain power to imitate Hollows. However, it will never
allow you to stand upon the same level as Arrancar."[123]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki before entering the Segunda Etapa) "Your words are those of a man who
knows not true despair. If you know it not, then allow me to teach you. This is the face of true
despair."[124]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "You are a fool, Ichigo Kurosaki. You willingly seek to challenge an opponent
so much more powerful than you that it strikes a primal fear into your being. Incomprehensible.
If this is the work of the 'heart' that you people speak of, then it is because you possess this
'heart' that you humans bring hurt upon yourself, because you possess this 'heart' that you lose
your lives."[125]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki before getting shot point blank by his Cero) "I see. So you show no mercy.
Just like a true Hollow. I care not. Defeated by you as I stand, my existence holds no further
meaning. Do it."[126]*
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Kill me. Make it quick. I no longer have the strength left in me to even walk.
If you do not cut me down now, then this will go unsettled for eternity."[127]
(While dying) "I see. So this is it. It lies here within this palm. The heart."[128]

Personality
Personality-wise, Nnoitra is extremely rude and lecherous, accented by his snake-like eyes and
perverted attitude towards Orihime, rudely referring to her as "pet-sama". He even went as far to
ask Ulquiorra Cifer how well he "disciplined" her. He is an extremely foul-mouthed man, and is also a
firm believer in male chauvinism and openly insults (and regularly attacked) the former 3rd Espada,
though it's unknown if he holds the same grudge toward Tier Harribel. His overall goal is to prove
himself to be the absolute strongest of the Espada, not wishing to waste his time killing those he dubs
"weak". However, he has no qualms attacking stronger opponents who are already injured, a trait
both Ichigo Kurosaki and Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez berate him for. He also loathes looking weak, and
thus, will refuse all forms of assistance offered to him during an ongoing battle, striking his lone
Fracción, Tesra Lindocruz, for running over to his side (and releasing Orihime Inoue in the process) after
Nnoitra was blasted by Nelliel's Cero Doble. He does, however, have at least some amount of concern
for his sole Fracción's well-being, having attempted to warn Tesra to withdraw from battle after he
determined via his Pesquisa that Kenpachi Zaraki was stronger than he had initially anticipated.
One of Nnoitra's most notable characteristics is his insatiable bloodlust and hunger for battle. Nnoitra's
idea of a fulfilling end to his life would be to die on his own two feet while drowning on his own blood.
Because fighting is his way of life, he continually strives to be stronger, and he considers himself
indebted to Aizen for allowing him to exceed his natural fighting limits. To appease his craving for a good
fight, he even defies a direct order from Aizen to patiently lie in wait for Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends
when they try to infiltrate Las Noches in a bid to free Orihime Inoue.
In his later moments during his battle with Kenpachi Zaraki, he begins to show signs of weakness and
desperation, and becomes increasingly frustrated over his inability to overcome the powerful captain.
This stems from an inferiority complex he developed while serving as 8th Espada, due to his apparent
inability to beat his opponents. Whenever his opponents refuse to kill him during a battle, particularly
Kenpachi and Nelliel, Nnoitra takes it as a direct affront to his pride, because in his mind, neither Nelliel
nor Kenpachi seem to think of him as their equal or superior, proving he wishes to be treated as equally
as every other opponent he has treated. Ironically, he treated virtually everyone of his opponents the
same way, unfairly and through dishonorable methods. He also does not hesitate to use any means -
even unfair ones - in order to prove his superiority on the battlefield.
Powers & Abilities
Master Swordsman: Nnoitra is highly masterful with his unique Zanpakutō. He used his skill to become
somewhat of a savage brute, as the lack of true law in Hueco Mundo allowed him plenty of opportunity
to engage in battle against Hollows and other Arrancar alike. He effortlessly wields his large Zanpakutō
with ease, taking advantage of its unique shape to maximize his attacks. He is equally capable of using it
as a ranged projectile as he is using it as a melee weapon. He is commonly seen using brute strength to
hack down an enemy's defense.[38][39][40][41]
Enhanced Hierro: Nnoitra holds the self-proclaimed title of the strongestHierro of all Arrancar (including
the Espada past and present), allowing him to withstand almost any attack with no sign of
injury.[42][43][44][45] However, Kenpachi Zaraki eventually found the necessary requirements to harm
him after a brief trial-and-error duel; sharpening his Reiatsu in order to cut through Nnoitra's Hierro.
This shows that while his Hierro is strong, all the opponent has to do in order to overcome it is "adapt"
to its density with their own Reiatsu.[46]
Indice Radar (捜指法 (インディセ・ラダール), Indise Radāru; Japanese for "Searching Way", Spanish
for "Mark Radar"): Nnoitra is capable of using an advanced version of Pesquisa. While the technique
normally works by entering a meditative state and functioning like sonar, all Nnoitra needs to do is put
his hand to a grounded surface. His Pesquisa is even able to gauge the amount of spiritual power an
enemy has, which he uses to identify potentially strong opponents.[47]
Nnoitra about to shoot his golden Cero from the tip of his tongue
Cero: His Cero attacks are uniquely golden, and are fired from the tip of his tongue as opposed to using
his hands or fingers like most other Arrancar do.[48][49]
Immense Spiritual Power: Nnoitra has an incredibly high Reiatsu, and is able to fight on par with
Kenpachi Zaraki, a captain well known for high Reiatsu. It is because of this high spiritual power that
Nnoitra has strong Hierro. He is just below the power level of the top four Espada, who are strong
enough to destroy Las Noches simply by releasing their power. His Reiatsu is yellow.[50]
Enhanced Strength: Despite his thin and fragile appearance, Nnoitra is frighteningly strong, and can put
a lot of destructive power behind his large Zanpakutō with devastating results. By spinning his
Zanpakutō by the chain-link, he can create whirlwinds.[51][52][53]
Sonído: Nnoitra has been shown to use Sonído when discussing Orihime Inoue with Ulquiorra
Cifer.[54] He has also been shown using it in battle, but his skill level with the technique is unknown. He
is fast enough to overwhelm a battle-worn Ichigo using his Bankai.[55][56]
Zanpakutō
Nnoitra's Zanpakutō
Santa Teresa (聖哭螳螂 (サンタ テレサ), Santa Teresa; a common Spanish language name for
"Mantis religiosa," or in English, "Praying Mantis," Japanese for "Sacred Crying Mantis"): Nnoitra's
Zanpakutō is uniquely different from the Zanpakutō of many of the other Espada since, unlike the basic
sword shape of most Arrancar, Santa Teresa takes the form of a giant axe-like weapon bearing two
crescent moon-shaped blades fused together at the backs, with a large looped chain connected to the
shaft at the end of the handle. The chain is connected to Nnoitra's waist, allowing him to perform long-
ranged attacks. During flashbacks to Nnoitra's time as the 8th Espada, it had only one crescent moon
blade, as opposed to the two that it features now.
Resurrección: The release command is Pray (祈れ, inore). Nnoitra gathers spiritual energy,
forming a yellow aura around him and creating a small shockwave. He then lifts Santa Teresa
over his head and says the release command, which causes spiritual energy to flow out from the
empty space of the top blade. In this form, Nnoitra gains an extra set of arms, which take on an
insect-like carapace and clawed hands, with each hand holding a large scythe-like weapon as
well. The scythes themselves resemble the appendages of a praying mantis, and have a small
golden tassel at the end of each staff. He also gains a golden marking extending from his
forehead to below his right eye, as well as a pair of horns on his head resembling a crescent
moon, with his left horn longer than his right. He gains several white, tendril-like appendages
around his torso which extend over the sides of his abdomen. His Hollow mask also changes,
becoming torn, with the teeth extending over the hole itself.[57] The weapons are used by him
to both defend and then rapidly attack his opponent, as seen in his fight with Kenpachi.[58]
Resurrección Special Ability: In this state, Nnoitra's physical abilities are enhanced.
Instantaneous Limb Generation: Nnoitra can grow an extra set of arms for a total of six. He
keeps one set hidden, which he can grow out instantly to perform surprise attacks.[59]
Weapon Generation: Nnoitra can grow his scythe-like weapons out of the folds of his wrists,
allowing him to replace lost or damaged weapons easily.[60]
Enhanced Strength: In this state, his strength is enhanced even further, allowing him to
overwhelm Kenpachi Zaraki during their battle.[61]
High-Speed Regeneration: Nnoitra has the rare ability to instantly heal injuries while in his
released from.[62] The power also allows him to regenerate severed limbs.[63] However, the
weakness of High-Speed Regeneration is that it cannot heal injuries to his internal organs or the
brain, and will cease working once either scenario occurs.[64]
Fracción
Tesra Lindocruz - A male Arrancar who assists Nnoitra wherever he goes. He seems to idolize
Nnoitra to a degree, shielding Nnoitra against Chad's last assault, despite criticism from Nnoitra
himself. When Tesra attacks Kenpachi without assessing his strength, Nnoitra screams at him to
get away, before Kenpachi deals Tesra a single, severely damaging blow, showing that despite
his behavior, Nnoitra has some concern for Tesra's well-being.
Nnoitra appears in a few Bleach games. He first appears in Bleach: Heat the Soul 5 without
his Resurrección. He is also playable in Bleach: Versus Crusade with his release state this time. He is also
playable in Bleach: Heat the Soul 6 and Bleach: Heat the Soul 7 with his Resurrección; Santa Teresa. His
Resurrección is fully playable in Bleach: Soul Resurrección.
Censorship
The injuries Nnoitra sustained from Kenpachi Zaraki's Kendo attack are portrayed differently in the
anime. In the manga, three of his arms are severed and his body is nearly cut in half,[65] whereas in the
anime, he only receives a cut through his clothes.[66]
Trivia
In the Bleach best bout poll, Nnoitra's fight with Kenpachi came in tenth place.[68]
Quotes
(To Tesra Lindocruz) "If I kill a thousand nobodies, who's gonna admit that I'm the strongest?
There's no value in taking a nobody's life."[69]
(To Tesra Lindocruz) "There is not a single person in heaven or on earth that can break me. Don't
forget that I am the strongest Espada."[70]
(To Orihime Inoue) "This is a battle. Of course it's gonna be unfair. That which is called 'battle'
was a monster originally born of unfairness and intolerance. I can't stand that guy. I can beat
that guy. I can't forgive that guy. We make enemies for all sorts of reasons, and from the
moment you make an enemy, until one of you draws his last breath - you're in a battle."[71]
(To Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck) "We've only been separated for a little while, but it looks like
you've got annoying in a totally different way. You're just pathetic."[72]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Ya know, I hate idiots who keep on comin' at ya even though there's no way
they're gonna win."[73]
(When asked why he hates Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck) "I just can't freakin' stand it. On the
battlefield, a woman standin' above the men. That's all it is."[74]
(To Kenpachi Zaraki) "Hah! What the hell're you blathering about?! Dodgin' attacks is a pure
battle instinct! And there ain't nowhere you can cut me! That sword of yours can never cut me!
That's all there is to it!"[75]
"Every fuckin' one of 'em, they have the gall to take pity on me. And they don't even know how
much they're hurtin' me by doin' it. I don't do "mercy". Strong, weak, infant, monster. I just
smash 'em all to pieces. I don't give 'em the chance to get up a second time."[76]
(To Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck) "Oh, I've got purpose all right. I fight for the sake of fighting."[77]
(To Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck) "I want to die in the heat of battle. That's why I wanna get
stronger. The stronger I get, the more battle will surround me. I want to be able to live and
breathe the heat of battle."[78]
"Ain't no chance of salvation for us. Never has been. With or without Aizen, that's never gonna
change. If there's one thing I'm grateful to that guy for, it's the fact that he gave me power.
Thanks to that I've been able to savor greater battles than ever before. I'm gonna be strong.
Stronger than anyone. If I'm gonna fight the ultimate enemy, then there can't be anyone else
stronger than me. I'll take 'em all out. No matter what it takes."[79]
"I wanna be cut so that my breath is gone before my body hits the ground. That's the kind of
death I wanna have."[80]

Appearance
Grimmjow is a tall, muscular man with light blue spiky hair and light blue eyes, the latter including green
lines below them, similar to the eye markings on the Panthera genus of cats, as well as the red marks
on Ikkaku Madarame's eyes.
Grimmjow's attire consists of a white hakama, a black sash and a ragged white jacket with an upturned
collar. The inner lining of his jacket is black and Grimmjow wears it with the sleeves rolled up and leaving
it open to expose his muscular chest. The remains of hisHollow mask consist of the right jawbone and
his Hollow hole is located on his abdomen. His tattoo number (6) is located on his back, near the right
side of his Hollow hole.[4] Grimmjow also sports a large scar across his torso, gained from his first battle
with Ichigo Kurosaki.[5]
Personality
While appearing to be a laid-back individual, Grimmjow possesses a brutal, impulsive, and excessively
violent personality alongside a lethally short temper. However, despite his aggression and obvious blood
lust in battle, Grimmjow possesses a feral cunning and has a knack for quickly exploiting any opening his
opponent reveals.[6][7] In addition, he is blunt, sarcastic and quite sadistic, revealing a psychotic
grin[8][9][10] or laughing maniacally whenever he becomes excited.[11][12] He is also very rude and
quite disrespectful. Grimmjow uses none of the honorifics in the Japanese language, except when
addressing Aizen[13] (though he is quick to discard the formality when Aizen is not around),[14] and
refers to Orihime Inoue as woman in conversation.[15]
Grimmjow displays little respect for authority and says whatever is on his mind, regardless of whether or
not it is appropriate. This attitude leads to conflicts with Kaname Tōsen, who holds Grimmjow in low
regard. He also has conflicts with Ulquiorra Cifer, the 4th Espada, when Ulquiorra interrupts his battles
or otherwise clashes with Grimmjow's ideals. Grimmjow confidently believes Ulquiorra's powers to be
weaker than his, a point he is eager to prove. He develops an additional grudge against Ichigo Kurosaki
for wounding him during their first two battles and is eager to return the favor. He intentionally kept the
large scar on his chest from their first battle as a reminder of this.[16] Grimmjow is also infuriated by
Ichigo's belief that he can defeat him regardless of how badly he is injured, which Grimmjow sees as
Ichigo looking down on him.[17]
However, he does have some form of a code of honor, as he is unwilling to fight an injured Ichigo,
bringing Orihime to heal him beforehand so that their battle will be a fair one, though he also wants to
defeat Ichigo when he is at full strength.[18] He also saves Orihime from Loly Aivirrne and Menoly
Mallia, who were beating her up, to repay the debt of restoring his arm, though he immediately
demands another favor afterwards.[19]
Equipment
Caja Negación (反膜の匪 (カハ・ネガシオン), kaha negashion; Spanish for "Negation Box," Japanese
for "Anti-Membrane of Negation"): An item given to the Espada by Aizen, which is meant to punish their
Fracción, if necessary. This cube, when used on a subject, traps them in an alternate dimension from
which there is no escape, however, this assumes it's being used as intended. More powerful Arrancar,
namely the Espada themselves, can escape, given enough time.[54]
Expert Swordsman: Although he usually prefers hand-to-hand combat, Grimmjow is also able to fight
effectively with his Zanpakutō. He is shown holding his own against Ichigo, who at the time was using
Bankai and his Hollow mask, when he only had one arm.[58] He is then shown holding his own against
Shinji Hirako, with Shinji wearing his Hollow mask as well.[59][60] In a one-on-one battle against Ichigo,
he displays considerable skill in swordsmanship by being able to keep up with Ichigo in battle.[61]
Pesquisa: Grimmjow demonstrated this ability when he and his Fracción invaded Karakura Town. He is
able to detect targets from a considerable distance.[62]
Hierro: As the Sexta Espada, Grimmjow has the passive ability known as Hierro. Grimmjow's Hierro is
strong enough to effortlessly block the sharp edge of a released Shikai blade with his bare
hand,[63] later showing the density of his skin by being able to grab Ichigo's Bankai blade, blocking it
with his bare hand and receiving no damage.[64] Grimmjow was able to survive a point blank Getsuga
Tenshō (though emerging with grievous injuries)[65] and immediately afterwards withstands being
frozen by Rukia's Shikai, noting that simply freezing the top layer of his skin isn't enough to kill him.[66]
Enhanced Strength: Grimmjow is able to push back Ichigo with little effort.[67] He is shown throwing
Ichigo a considerable distance using Ichigo's own sword that he had grabbed hold of during an
attack.[68] His kicks are strong enough to send an opponent flying and destroy several buildings in the
surrounding area.[69][70] He was also shown impaling Luppi Antenor, his Espada replacement, through
the chest with his bare hand relatively easily despite Luppi's Hierro.[71]
Great Spiritual Power: Grimmjow possesses a great deal of spiritual energy. Rukia described it as
"worlds apart" from his Fracción and wondered if he was even the same species.[72] His Reiatsu is
blue.[73]
Highly Perceptive Combatant: Grimmjow was able to discern from simple observation, during his first
fight with Ichigo, that his Bankai enhanced Getsuga Tenshō was damaging his body. He also notes that
Ichigo was capable of 2 to 3 more of those attacks at best.[74] Upon his second fight with Ichigo, he
makes note that Ichigo was straining to use his Hollowfication, for as soon as his mask came off his
breathing instantly became heavier.[75] However, he notes that it may not be so simple as that,
denoting that it may have something to do with him having taken so much damage, losing too much
spiritual energy, or that it has a limit to the amount of time he can use it.[76] Upon his third fight with
Ichigo, he notes that he extended the amount of time he can stay in his masked state.[77]
Cero: Grimmjow is capable of firing a red Cero from the palm of his hand,[78][79] as well as his
fist.[80] He has been shown firing it at point-blank range to increase its lethality, as shown when he
incinerates the top half of Luppi after regaining his arm and rank.[81] He uses it at point-blank range
again on Menoly, incinerating her.[82]His Cero is powerful enough to neutralize the Cero of fellow
Espada Ulquiorra Cifer during their brief scuffle, though it badly burned his right arm from his hand to
his elbow.[83] Grimmjow can also fire one Cero from each hand.[84]
Gran Rey Cero: As an Espada, he is able to use this Espada-exclusive Cero variant, which
produces a much larger and more powerful version of the normal Cero. This Cero is strong
enough to potentially cause great damage to Las Noches itself. For this reason, Aizen banned its
use inside the fortress, although Grimmjow clearly ignored this during his last battle with Ichigo.
In order to fire it, it seems Grimmjow must first cut his own hand on his Zanpakutō, mixing his
blood with the Cero as a catalyst. Grimmjow's Gran Rey Cero is colored blue.[85]
Descorrer (解空 (デスコレール), Desukorēru; Japanese for "Loosed Void", Spanish for "Drawing
Back/Opening"):[86] A technique used by Espada-level Arrancar, and sometimes others, to open a
Garganta between the Human World and Hueco Mundo. Grimmjow demonstrated this ability during his
own personal invasion of Karakura Town.[87]
Sonído Master: As the 6th Espada, Grimmjow is very proficient in the use of Sonído. Even in his
unreleased state, he is able to keep up with Ichigo Kurosaki while in Bankai. Initially, Grimmjow could
even surprise and overwhelm Ichigo with his speed.[88][89][90][91]
Zanpakutō
Pantera (豹王 (パンテラ), Pantera; Spanish for "Panther", Japanese for "Panther King"): His
Zanpakutō's tsuba resembles a rigid, crooked "S," while the sheath and handle are light blue.[92]
Resurrección: His release command for his Zanpakutō is "Grind" (軋れ, kishire), referring to
grinding one's teeth. To release his Zanpakutō, he holds it up, like the start of a low sweep
stroke, with his right hand. The sword glows light blue as he puts his left hand up to it. He then
rakes his hand along the length of the blade with a swift motion, while calling out its release
command, which in turn releases a torrent of spiritual power that creates tremendous gusts of
wind in the immediate vicinity. Grimmjow's appearance changes drastically to something more
feline and predatory. His teeth become jagged and sharp, his hands turn into black claws and his
feet become black clawed paws, similar to that of a cat, along with a slender whip-like tail that's
longer than his body. His hair becomes very long and flowing, and the markings around his eyes
enlarge and extend to the tips of his ears, which become swept back and cat-like. He loses his
distinctive jaw mask, which is replaced by a sort of a headgear upon his brow covering his
forehead. His clothing changes to become form-fitting white segmented armor, similar to his
original Adjuchas-Hollow form. He has blades protruding from his forearms and his
calves.[93][94]
Enhanced Speed & Agility: Complimenting his already impressive speed and power, Grimmjow's
released state increases his speed drastically, giving him animalistic agility and movement to
match his feline form. He is able to keep up with the masked-enhanced Bankai of Ichigo.
Enhanced Strength: His strikes pack enough power to accidentally destroy large skyscraper-
sized pillars in Las Noches via collateral damage during the fight with Ichigo. He was also able to
send Ichigo through several buildings with one strike, as well as send him flying hundreds of feet
with a few light punches and kicks.[96]
Sonic Wave: When in his released form, he can roar loudly enough to create sonic waves in the
air and surrounding area, which are powerful enough to throw off his
opponents.[97] (Unnamed)
Garra de la Pantera.
Fracción
Grimmjow's Fracción.
Edrad Liones (エドラド・リオネス, Edorado Rionesu) is the 13th Arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen's
army and was a member of Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez's Fracción. He was killed by Ikkaku
Madarame.
Di Roy Rinker (ディ・ロイ・リンカー, Di Roi Rinkā) or D-Roy as he is also known, is the 16th
Arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen's army and was a member of Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez's Fracción. He
was killed by Rukia Kuchiki.
Grimmjow is a playable character in several different Bleach Video Games. He appears in Bleach: Heat
the Soul 4, Bleach: Heat the Soul 5, Bleach: Heat the Soul 6, and Bleach: Heat the Soul 7 of the Bleach:
Heat the Soul series. He also appears in Bleach: Shattered Blade and Bleach: Versus Crusade of
the Nintendo home console series, and Bleach: Blade Battlers 2nd of the Bleach: Blade Battlers series. In
Bleach: Shattered Blade, he is capable of firing blue Bala blasts at his foe. In Bleach: Blade Battlers 2nd,
he has a unique charge attack that looks like a small, black Getsuga Tenshō, but the outline is purple
instead of red and his Cero is blue instead of red. He also has a cameo and artwork in Bleach: Dark
Souls and appears in the RPG Bleach: The 3rd Phantom as a technique-type enemy, but becomes a
speed-type while in his Resurrección form. In Bleach: The 3rd Phantom, he is able to use a stronger
close-range version of Cero called the Agarrar Cero, in which he blasts his opponent at point-blank
range, and is capable of causing burns, similar to his usage from the series. In addition, he can also use
Bala, and can even use all of his skills in his released form, including the Gran Rey Cero. In addition, he is
also able to use the Desgarrón technique. The newer installments, Bleach: Heat the Soul 5, Bleach: Heat
the Soul 6, Bleach: Heat the Soul 7, and Bleach: Versus Crusade feature Grimmjow in his released state
as well. In Bleach: Versus Crusade, he is capable of using Cero and Gran Rey Cero, and he retains the
standard Cero technique in his released form. His released form appears again inBleach: Soul
Resurrección where Desgarrón is his ultimate attack, and can use Gran Rey Cero. Also in Soul
Resurrección, his Garra de la Pantera attack is called Afilado (Spanish for "Sharp").
He also has his own character album as part of the Bleach Beat Collection 3rd Session. The album
contains two vocal tracks that are entitled BrEaK and Six feelings, as well as a "Voice Message".
Censorship
In the anime, during Grimmjow's first fight with Ichigo, Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshō gave Grimmjow a large
burn on his chest and a small burn on both of his wrists and the left side of his forehead. In the manga,
however, he was bleeding profusily from all said places, as well as his right thigh.
Also in the manga, when Grimmjow comes to rescue Orihime Inoue from Loly and Menoly, he kicks Loly
in her stomach. Additionally, after he kills Menoly, he grabs Loly by her leg and breaks it off. These were
all omitted in the anime. Instead of kicking Loly, he simply slaps her away, and after killing Menoly, he
scares her before knocking her out.
For the cover of Chapter 199, Grimmjow is seen giving the finger. In the English release, the extension of
his middle finger is redrawn to omit the vulgar act.
Trivia
The theme song Tite Kubo chose for Grimmjow is "Bomb LA(A Bombs) - Step Inside" from [And
Just Constantly Rotating].
Grimmjow's first name stems from that of Nicholas Grimshaw, an English architect noted for
modernist buildings.[105] His last name Jaegerjaquez comes from a Swiss watch and clock
manufacturer calledJaeger-LeCoultre.[106]
Grimmjow was voted the fourth most popular Bleach character in the latest Shōnen
Jump popularity pollafter receiving 4987 votes.
In the Bleach best bout poll Grimmjow's final fight with Ichigo tied for third place.[107]
In chapter 200 of the manga, in two of the panels that show Grimmjow's face, the remnants of
his Hollow mask are shown to have disappeared.
Quotes
(To his Fracción) "I don't care who they are, if they show even a bit of Reiatsu, we just kill them
all."[108]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "You underestimating me, Shinigami? I still don't quite feel like killing you,
yet. Get a grip and come on! Show me your Bankai. If you don't, I'll do the same thing I did to
that little Shinigami over there and put a freakin' hole in you!"[109]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki when asked what happened to his arm) "I threw it away before I got here,
'cause I won't need two arms to kill you."[110]
(To Shinji Hirako) "Damn right. Who you are has nothing to do with killing you!"[111]
(To Kaname Tōsen) "It's best to crush insects quickly once they've gotten inside, right?"[112]
"They're all cowards, every damn one of them. Whatever. I'll just consume them. As they become
my flesh and blood, they will see beyond. I... I am the king!"[113]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Those eyes. You're always like that. No matter how much I beat you up,
you've got this sense about you that you're going to beat me. You think you're freaking stronger
than me! I can't freakin' stand it!"[114]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Whether you're a Human, or a Shinigami or an Arrancar, anyone who looks
at me like they're underestimating my power, I'll smash every one of 'em into oblivion!"[115]
(To Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck) "Shut the hell up. Enough with the screamin' kid. Next time you
make a fuss, I'm gonna blast you into next week!"[116]
(About Ulquiorra Cifer) "I'll show him what you get when you mess around with someone else's
prey."[117]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "You are a Shinigami and I am a Hollow! Whichever side losses will be
annihilated. That's how it's always been for thousands of years. Do you need any other reason to
fight? Come on. The one who remains standing will return alive. That's all it comes down
to!"[118]
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Like I'd lose... like I'd... there's no way... no way I'd lose to someone like
you!"[119]

Appearance
Nelliel is a female Arrancar that has hazel eyes and short green hair. In her child form, her eyes are
incredibly wide, the canines on her lower jaw are larger than usual, and the remains of her Hollow mask
make up a cartoon-like skull which sits on the top of her head. A crack runs along the left side of the
mask and four teeth on the left side of the skull are broken off. She has a large scar coming down from
her forehead to her nose and a crimson line that stretches horizontally across her face below her eyes.
Her clothing consists of a simple green gown with a hood which covers her entire body.
Her true form is that of a fully-grown curvaceous and well-endowed adult with long waving greenish-
blue hair, retaining similar features to her child form, including the scar and the crimson line that runs
across her face, but her bottom canines aren't quite as pronounced. Her gown is now torn into a skirt
and a top, connected with a single strip across her abdomen. Her skull mask also differs slightly; its
features appearing sharper and less cartoonish with a pair of curved horns, but still missing some of its
teeth. A large "3" is tattooed on her back, indicating that she was the former 3rd Espada.
Personality
Nel's appearance is in stark contrast to her vocabulary, which contains a number of bizarre phrases and
words one wouldn't expect such a small child to know, such as calling her uvula a "throat penis" and
referring to herself as a masochist. Ichigo Kurosaki assumes her Hollow companions are responsible for
this. During her group's super sentai intro she prefers the name "Thieves: Nel-Don-Pe." She also seems
to speak with a lisp in her child form, frequently pronouncing "S"s as "T"s. Nel and her companions also
represent oddities among Hollows; though most Hollows are evil, Nel actually fears Shinigami, assuming
that they are, in fact, the evil ones.
Despite believing that Shinigami are evil, Nel develops an attachment to Ichigo and follows him into Las
Noches. And when she returns to her physical form, despite growing up physically, she somehow retains
her child-like affection over Ichigo, best-shown when she unexpectedly bear-hugged him after attacking
Nnoitra without realizing that Ichigo was losing consciousness (although the anime's flashback of Nel's
accident suggested that she was always somewhat childish outside of combat).
As Nelliel, she is much more mature, composed, logical, sophisticated, and intelligent than her child
form. She is also relatively level-headed in terms of how to fight, stating that if one's excuse for a battle
is to fight out of hatred, prejudice, or simple competition, as Nnoitra does, then it is merely instinctual
and animalistic, and that it makes the challenger look "childish," "unworthy," and "not much of a
warrior". Though Nelliel has proven during her last few minutes as a full-fledged Espada that it is
'acceptable' when it involves vengeance, she does not view even that as a reason to fight. Unlike many
of the Arrancar, Nelliel is somewhat pacifistic, and according to her Fracción, has despised engaging in
combat even when she was still among the upper ranks of the Espada, unless it involves self-defense
and protecting those dear to her heart. It is for this reason that Pesche and Dondochakka decided to
simply be content with her child form and banished themselves from Las Noches. She refuses to finish
off weaker or injured opponents, and will stop fighting them once they've been disabled or
incapacitated, a trait shared with Kenpachi Zaraki.
As witnessed during her numerous fights with Nnoitra, Nelliel's shown to be relatively calm and silent
when fighting, preferring to speak only when spoken to, a rather uncommon trait among most Arrancar.
She is even shown to enjoy reading, usually seen reading a book after her missions or after waiting for
Nnoitra to wake up after their recent battle.
Nelliel's also shown to be a loyal, respectful, and trustworthy warrior, who will diligently follow the
orders of her commander, provided said commander has proven his worth. She's also knowledgeable,
analytical, easygoing, fairly compassionate (usually towards her friends), humorous in her own right, and
exhibits a cheerful, energetic demeanor when off-duty.
Child Form
Neru Shawā (ネルシャワー, Nel Shower): Nel's saliva seems to possess some weak form of healing
power. She activates it by reaching into her mouth and massaging her uvula, causing her to vomit. The
vomit has a similar appearance to saliva, leading her to believe that it is.[42]
Cero Doble: A unique ability where Nel swallows an enemy's Cero and fires it back, with a force
exceeding that of the original blast. This ability is indicated by the eyes on her skull mask glowing. Unlike
in her original form, Nel does not mix the swallowed Cero with her own; instead, she simply sends it
back.[43] While her child form severely limits her Arrancar powers, she is still able to absorb and
redirect a Cero blast from a Privaron Espada-class Arrancar in its released form, though the effort seems
to tire her immediately.
Chōkasoku (超加速, Super Acceleration): She can accelerate her movements with what appears to be a
rudimentary form of Sonído. When she uses this Sonído form, her mask's eyes glow.[44]
Original Form
Master Swordsman: As a former Espada, Nelliel has a great deal of experience in fighting, showing
hardly any effort in her advanced use of swordsmanship. Her body flows elegantly when engaging in
combat, so finely tuned that she can stop her attacks at a moment's notice, and subsequently execute
lethal attacks with absolute precision. She easily defeated Nnoitra a number of times, who is a highly
proficient swordsman in his own right.[45]
Expert Hand-To-Hand Combatant: Even without the aid of her Zanpakutō, Nelliel has shown herself to
be quite a skilled fighter. During her battle against Nnoitra, she was able to skillfully dodge and counter
his attacks. She also used her swordsmanship in conjunction with her hand-to-hand combat
skills.[46][47]
Sonído Master: Her speed has greatly increased as well, fitting with her former position. She was able to
repeatedly sneak up on and effortlessly avoid Nnoitra with her speed. She easily transported the badly
hurt Ichigo to a safer place during one of Nnoitra's attacks.[48]
Cero Doble: She retains her attack absorption ability in her original form, but now performs it with
greater ease. According to Nnoitra, Nelliel's specialty is to absorb an incoming Cero and fire one of her
own while returning it, thus creating a potent Cero Doble (重奏虚閃 (セロ・ドーブル), sero
dōburu, Spanish for "Double Zero," Japanese for "Heavy Performance Hollow Flash"). In her original
form, the force(s) of the Cero Doble is augmented greatly, since she rebounds the attack while blending
it with her own Cero, drastically increasing its power.[49][50]
Hierro: Nelliel, while in her original form, Nel has Hierro befitting the strength of an Espada. It is strong
enough to allow Nelliel to counter Nnoitra's blade with a kick and show no signs of injury.[51][52]
Enhanced Strength: Her strength is greatly increased, fitting with her former position. With her great
physical strength, Nelliel can fend off attacks from gigantic weapons like Nnoitra's, launch her opponent
several meters away with a single punch, and effortlessly slice through the Hierro of an Espada-level
Arrancar opponent with one swing of her Zanpakutō.[53] She is also capable of stopping Nnoitra's Cero
barehanded.[54]
Immense Spiritual Power: As the former third Espada, Nelliel has a grand amount of spiritual energy,
powerful enough for her Fracción to sense it from a large distance.[55] Renji even stated that her
spiritual power was close to Ichigo's, confusing the two for a moment.
High Intellect: While in her original form, she is shown to be quite intelligent. Having a great
understanding of combat and its forms, and the methods behind an opponent's skill and intentions, she
can discern personalities easily. She also has a philosophy on life that provides a code of honor, respect,
and mercy. However, her childlike antics can sometimes block her intelligence. At one point, she latched
onto Ichigo, who was clearly injured, to the point where he passed out, then latched onto him
again. [56]
Zanpakutō
Resurrección: Its release command is "Declare" (謳え, utae; Viz: "Praise"). Nel holds her
Zanpakutō up in front of her horizontally and calls out its release command. The Zanpakutō
glows as a hazy smoke emanates from it. She calls out the name of her Zanpakutō, and the glow
intensifies into a huge burst of spiritual energy that covers the surrounding area. In her new
form, Nel takes the form of a brownish-green ibex-like centaur, complete with a black horse's
tail. Her Hollow mask's horns become longer and more curved, and also extend slightly, framing
the sides of her face, particularly the cheeks. The crack on her mask also closes up, although the
missing teeth remain. Her shoulders are covered by white spaulders that come across her
shoulder blade to her neck. She has white elbow guards and white gauntlets. The parts of her
arm that aren't covered by armor are covered by a black material, which also covers her hands.
There is a white ring at the base of her tail. Gamuza itself transforms into a double-sided
lance.[57] She is one of the few Arrancar known to have a weapon after her release (the
releases of most Arrancar de-materialize their weapons upon release). These features grant her
the overall appearance of a medieval knight or jouster.
Resurrección Special Ability: The only attack she has used in this form so far is Lanzador Verde. The full
extent of Gamuza's abilities are still unknown.
Enhanced Strength: While in her released form, her might increases further.
Enhanced Spiritual Power: While in her released state, her spiritual power increases
significantly.
Fracción
Bawabawa (バワバワ, Bawabawa) is a giant, eel-like Hollow whose mask consists of a simple plate on
his head with a pair of horns. He is a parasite that Dondochakka keeps inside him if not out, giving him a
particular Fracción-state. He acts as both a pet and transportation for Pesche, Dondochakka, and Nel Tu.
Bawabawa tends to get upset for not being included in the group's super sentai-styled introduction
sequences.
Censorship
Due to censorship, Nel's clothes, in her adult form, were altered slightly between the manga and the
anime. The manga clearly shows the lower curves of Nel's breasts while her top is extended in the anime
so that the curves of her breasts were covered.
Nelliel is a playable character in a few of the newer Bleach games, first appearing in Bleach: Heat the
Soul 4 in her child form. She also appears in Bleach: Heat the Soul 5 in her child and adult form,
and Bleach: Versus Crusade in her adult and Resurrección forms; and Bleach: Heat the Soul 6 and 7 in
her child, adult andResurrección forms. She also has her own character album as part of the Bleach Beat
Collection 3rd Session. The two vocal tracks are entitled Kokoro Oasis and Every Fight!.
Trivia
In the English version of the anime, Nelliel's child form doesn't speak with a lisp. She does,
however, call Ichigo "Itsygo" at times.
In the Bleach Manga, Nel clearly has green hair but in the Anime, her hair is turquoise.
Quotes
(To Ichigo Kurosaki) "Yep! Nel's a serious maso-kiss, so it no fun if I don't cry a lil!"[59]
(To Orihime Inoue) "Itsygo's out dere fightin' for you! Why're ya acting like yer afraid of Itysgo?
Din't you say Itsygo's a nice person?! Well yer right! Nel tinks he's nice too! Itsygo's so nice, when
he heard Ulquiorra say yer name, he charged right at 'im! Itsygo is a human! But den he became
a Shinigami, an' even put on dat mask and used dat dangerous power! Dere's no way Itsygo isn't
gettin' hurt! He's gotta be sufferin'! But Itsygo's usin' his powers and gettin' injured all cuz he's
fightin' for you! What's-- What's gonna happen if ya don't cheer for Itsygo?!"[60]
(To Nnoitra Gilga) "There was a time when we ceased to be Human and became beasts. And
then in becoming Arrancar, we regained our capacity for reason. One who possesses reason
should require a reason to fight."[61]
(To Nnoitra Gilga) "You are a beast. I cannot accept you as a warrior. I have no desire to be
burdened with the life of one who is no warrior."[62]
(To Nnoitra Gilga) "Carrying a weapon on your shoulder is threatening behavior. If you truly wish
to appear strong, hide your weapon as you walk."[63]
(To Nnoitra Gilga) "This isn't a reason to fight! But you hurt people who were very dear to me!
And you're going to pay for it!"[64]
