In the late 1990s, the Adani Group began diversifying into other industries, including
infrastructure, logistics, and energy. The company built India's first private port,
Mundra Port, in 1998 and later expanded into developing airports, roads, and power
plants.
In the early 2000s, the Adani Group became a leading player in India's renewable
energy sector, focusing on solar and wind power projects. The company also
expanded its operations globally, investing in ports, mines, and power plants in
countries such as Indonesia, Australia, and Africa.
In recent years, the Adani Group has faced controversy and opposition over its
proposed Carmichael coal mine in Australia. It has been met with significant
opposition from environmental groups and local communities. Despite this, the
company continues to expand its operations and investments in various industries
across India and the world.

Diversified investments: The Adani Group has a presence in diverse core industries such
as coal, power, steel, infrastructure, energy, logistics and real estate which covers almost
all core sectors making the conglomerate a very strong presence in most areas of industrial

Strong financial records: The Adani Group has been steady in their financial records
and has registered an operating margin of 11 .2 % in the year 2017. The equity share
capital and debts have been reinvested into assets which have resulted in higher revenues.

Ethical Issues: Though Adani has always been vocal about their commitment towards the
society they have been facing an allegation of illegal coal mining for which they are facing
charges under the court of law. They have also got into issues like illegal land
encroachment in SEZ in Mundra.
Unhappy shareholders: The Adani Group has not been able to create shareholder
satisfaction and this is evident by the fact that the group has lost 14 to 24 percent of their
wealth and their debt has increased to around Rs 70,000 crores.
High-risk appetite: Probably inspired by the sudden growth spurt the top brass of Adani
Group made some risky investments in mining in Australia which are not giving the
promised returns. In addition to this, some of their investments in infrastructure and real
estate are also taking time to monetize
Opportunities refer to those avenues in the environment that surrounds the business on which it

Threats are those factors in the environment which can be detrimental to the growth of the
business. Some of the threats include:
Foreign investment: Foreign investment inspectors like energy and infrastructure have
grown profusely in the last decade. An estimated investment of around US$22 billion has
been projected for the next five years in infrastructure. There are also a lot of foreign
infrastructure conglomerates moving into India. This can be a potential threat to the
company.
Negative perceptions on the group: In comparison to other Indian conglomerates like the
Tatas or the Birlas the Adani Group has come into existence recently and thus do not have
the trust or goodwill that the others have. Adding to this are allegations of illegal
encroachment and mining scandals.

.Adani Enterprises:
Adani Enterprises is a holding company, which is primarily engaged in mining and trading
of coal and iron ore on a standalone basis, and acts as an incubator for Adani Group's new
business ventures. It has three main subsidiaries: Adani Wilmar (food processing), Adani Airport
Holdings (airport operations) and Adani Road Transport (road development). Through its other
subsidiaries, Adani Enterprises also has business interests in solar PV
module manufacturing, water infrastructure, data centers, agri-output storage and
distribution, defence and aerospace, bunkering, rail and metro infrastructure, real estate, financial
services, oil exploration, petrochemicals and cement.
Adani Green Energy is the renewable energy arm of the group, having wind and solar power
plants in its portfolio. It is the world's largest solar power developer by capacity, with a total
capacity of 12.3 GW. In 2022, Adani Green formed 3 new subsidiary companies, called Adani
Renewable Energy Thirty Six, Adani Renewable Energy Forty Limited and Adani Renewable
Energy Forty Seven Limited.
Adani Ports & SEZ:
Adani Ports & SEZ (APSEZ) is the largest private port company and special economic zone in
India, with ten ports and terminals including Mundra Port, its largest. The company is headed by
Karan Adani, CEO of APSEZ. The company's operations include Port management, logistics and
the special economic zone. The company operates at the following ports: Mundra, Tuna
Port, Dahej, and Hazira, Gujarat; Gangavaram, Andhra
Pradesh; Dhamra, Odisha; Kattupalli, Tamil Nadu; and Vizhinjam, Kerala.
Adani Power
Adani Power was established in August 1996 . The company develops and maintains power
projects and is the largest private sector power generation company in the country. It has a
combined installed capacity of 12,450 MW with four thermal power projects across India.
Adani Transmission:
Integrated in 2013, Adani Transmission handles the commissioning, operations and maintenance
of electric power transmission systems. As of May 2021, the company holds, operates and
maintains 17,200 circuit kilometres of transmission lines that range from 400 to 765 kilovolts,
making it India's largest private sector power transmission and distribution network.
