Determine the hydrostatic force and center of pressure

Objective
Determine the hydrostatic force acting on the surface and determine the
center of pressure for the fully and partially submerged cases

Hydrostatic force is the pressure exerted by a fluid at rest on a surface

immersed at a given point
The center of pressure is a point on a submerged surface at which a
hydrostatic pressure force acts

The device is a basin with an arm in which there is a holder for weights, a
quarter circle part, a body for the balance of the arm, and a scale for
measuring the height of the liquid
Procedure

We are working on balancing the arm before putting the water, then we
add water until it touches the bottom of a quarter of the circle, and we
put weights gradually, the balance will be disturbed. We add more water
until the arm is balanced. We measure yc and repeat the experiment in
both cases when the area is completely and partially submerged
Calculates the hydrostatic force and center of pressure representing the
location of the hydrostatic force
FR = pgh A
Location of FR (yR)
YRTheo = h +Ixx /hA

1- fully submerged area

If yc > or = D
A=w D
h= yc – D/2
Ixx = wD3/12

2- partially submerged area

If yc < D
A= w yc
h= yc/2
YRexp = mgl/FR -H
H= 0.2- yc
Where
A : submerged area
yR : Location of FR
yc : The distance from the end of the submerged part to the surface of
the water

Discussion:
Is the position of cp on the submerged area fixed or mobile? Discuss
What is the effect of the hydrostatic force in both cases
