Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)

method for two or more
devices. It uses
high-frequency radio
waves and often include
an access point to the
Internet. It allows users to
move around the coverage
area, often a home or
small office, while
maintaining a network
Wide Area Network (WAN)

✔ WAN: Wide Area Network


(WAN) usually refers to a
network which covers a
large geographical area,
and use communications
circuits to connect the
intermediate nodes.
Local Area Network (LAN)

✔ A LAN is a network of
connected devices that
exist within a specific
location. LANs may be
found in homes, offices,
educational institution, or
other areas. A LAN may
be wired, wireless, or a
combination of the two.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)

✔ It is basically a bigger
version of LAN. It is also
called MAN and uses the
similar technology as LAN.
It is designed to extend
over the entire city. It can
be means to connecting a
number of LANs into a
larger network or it can be
a single cable.
Intranet and Extranet

✔ An intranet is a private
network that can only be
accessed by authorized
users for internal
communciation. An
internal network that uses
internet technologies
✔ An extranet is a controlled
private network allowing
customers, partners, vendors,
suppliers and other
businesses to gain
information, typically about a
specific company or
educational institution, and do
so without granting access to
the organization's entire
network.
