Abstract

PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs) are widely used as supplementary materials or as teaching aids, and
because of their usefulness, PPTs became a major part of the teaching methods in most schools. The
opinion of the students regarding the use of PPTs in class and whether they approve of it or find it
distracting is still uncertain. In this paper, the researchers will focus on identifying the perception of the
students of St. Louise de Marillac School of Miagao Iloilo Inc. (SLMSMII) on the teacher’s usage of PPTs
inside the classroom, this study aims to determine the student’s perception on the teacher’s usage of
MS PowerPoint Presentation. The Teacher’s usage of PPT is considered an independent variable in the
study, having an effect on the perception of the students of SLMSMII. There are a total of 310
respondents, 169 randomly selected Junior High School Students, 21 are randomly selected students per
section. There are 141 randomly selected students from the Senior High School, with 24 students from
each section of the students of St. Louise de Marillac School of Miagao school year 2022-2023. In this
study, the researchers will be using the questionnaire. The questionnaire is consisting of dichotomous
question or close ended questions that are answerable by yes or no. This research instrument is
distributed randomly to the students of SLMSMII through face-to-face interaction and are collected
immediately after it is answered. The results of the study are ranked according to their mean. The
majority of the participants believes that utilizing PowerPoint Presentations have positive impacts
especially on increasing interest and engagement among students during class discussions and thereby
creating a stronger connection between the students and the teachers. However, a notable number of
participants in the minority believes otherwise, notably, they believe that the utilization of PowerPoint
Presentations is making the students adapt a more passive learning approach thereby lowering the
interaction between the students and the teachers, limits the student’s critical thinking, and causing
interruptions during classes due to technical difficulties. In conclusion, the study finds that the majority
of the participants perceives the teacher’s utilization of PowerPoint Presentation in a positive light, the
minority, however, disagrees.
