Functional Analysis Protocol

Analogue
Client: John Frank
Program Supervisor: Aicha
Date: May 12th 2021

Setting
 Controlled environment
 Therapy room has one table, 2 chairs, toy shelf, a bean bag and a two way mirror.

Implementers
 Instructor therapist will implement the conditions.
 Lead therapist will be behind the two way mirror to observe and collect data.

Target Behavior
 Aggression:
o Hitting: is observed when John uses his hands with force against therapist.
o Pinching: when John uses his fingers to grasp on others with force.
o Punching: John uses his fist with force against others
o Scratching: John moves his nails against others with force.
o Biting: John uses his teeth against others body.
o Destruction: John throws items at others.
 Verbal Protest:
o Swearing: any inappropriate vocalizations that are intentionally inappropriate.
o Whining: refusal to comply with demand.

Conditions and Protocol


 Demand:
o When it is time to run a table session give the warning demand to put toys away
and work is in 2 minutes; “In two minutes we will clean then work”
o Behavior: Student begins to use aggression and verbally protest the demand.
o Consequence:
 Therapist waits for 10 seconds for appropriate response
 If there is no response, the therapist will repeat demand with prompt
 If there is no response then therapist will use physical prompt.
 If client follows through then positive reinforcement is given
 If client does not follow through then ignore attention seeking behavior
and withhold attention until he begins to show appropriate behavior
o Duration: 5 minutes
o Termination Criteria: If John displays threatening self-injurious behaviors, the
session is to be discontinued.

o Antecedent: Therapist tells client to play with toys
o Behavior: Client begins to throw items across the room and watches for therapist
reaction. Client then begins to hit the therapist. Client watches for verbal, eye
contact and gestures from therapist.
o Consequence: Therapist delivers attention when client is engaging in target
behaviors using verbal cue.
o Record behavior outcome on sheet.
 Alone:
o The client is in the room without reinforcers/toys
o Therapist stands behind two way mirror
o Client is observed to assess whether self-stimulation is maintaining the target
behaviors.
o Duration: 5 minutes
o Termination: if client exhibits extreme self-injurious behaviors
 Tangible:
o Therapist removes reinforcer/ preferred item
o Observe for target behavior
o Tangible is given
o Duration: 5 minutes
o Termination: if client exhibits extreme self-injurious behaviors
 Play condition:
o Remove EO’s ( Tangible, attention, etc.)
 Therapist and client are present with toys
 Therapist is not directly engaging with client
 No demands are given and therapist gives positive reinforcement through
praise on appropriate behavior every 30 seconds.
 Problem behavior is ignored.
o Duration: 5 minutes
o Termination: if client exhibits extreme self-injurious behaviors

 At home play room; Playroom has a toy shelf, table, sand sensory, and bed.

Implementers
 Parent will implement the intervention conditions and run data on given data sheets.

Target Behavior
 Aggression:
o Hitting: is observed when John uses his hands with force against sister.
o Pinching: when John uses his fingers to grasp on others with force.
o Punching: John uses his fist with force against others
o Scratching: John moves his nails against others with force.
