CyberRat Experiment 1
Consequential operation as explained by the behavioral procedures occurs when
“response B has consequence C … stimulus is produced or terminated (Catania, 2013, Table 2-
1). This operation is used to present a stimulus that is a result of response. The consequential
operation effect is defined by two processes; extinction and spontaneous recovery. Extinction is a
process within the operant behavior that explains the discontentment of reinforcing response in
which follows an operation (Ray, 2005). The process of extinction happens when we begin to
fade out a previous learned behavior in association to an event. In Operant conditioning this
process happens when we use an unconditioned stimulus with either the reinforcement or
punishment to alter conditioned response. Spontaneous recovery is defined by a temporarily
recovery of the extinct behavior. This process happens when a conditioned response reappears to
the “testing presentation of a CS … would occasionally occur even without reconditioning, thus
appearing to be a spontaneous recovery of the prior conditioning effect. It is from this
reappearance that the phenomenon is called spontaneous recovery” (Ray, 2005). RESEARCH
