DEDICATION

This commentary is dedicated to the hundreds of Hebrew women, who have gone before
us, and who have been prepared to offer up their sons, back to God Almighty, to serve
and honour Him, and to preach the gospel in many nations, and who have risked, and
in some cases, given up their lives for the gospel.
To my wife, Rani, who has been my soulmate and my encouragement for these last 42
years, as we have travelled and preached in many nations. There have been many good
experiences, (and some not so good ones), but throughout these travelling adventures
for the Lord, He has always been faithful; He is a person we know that we can trust, in
ALL situations ~ in the good, the bad, and the ugly!

INTRODUCTION TO THE SECOND BOOK OF THE CHRONICLES

The Second Book of Chronicles in the Old Testament of the Bible covers the time from Solomon’s
ascension to the throne in 971 BC, until the southern kingdom of Judah was finally carried into
exile in Babylon in 586 B.C. The book continues the history of the Hebrew people, from the reign of
King Solomon to the captivity in Babylon. The book approaches the history from a different
perspective than 1 Kings and 2 Kings. The portrait of Solomon is an idealized one. At the conclusion
of the First Book of the Chronicles in chapter 29, King David prayed and prophesied that God would

3
protect him and guide him. God responded that He would establish the kingdom of Solomon for ever.
He would become God’s son, and God Almighty would become His Father.
CHAPTER ONE: SOLEMN OFFERING OF KING SOLOMON AT GIBEON
1. And aSolomon, the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom. And the LORD
his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.
2. Then Solomon spoke unto all-of Israel, to bthe captains of thousands, and of
hundreds, and to the judges, and to every Governor in all-of Israel, the chiefs of
the fathers.
3. So, Solomon and all-of the congregation with him, went to cthe high place, that
was at Gibeon; for there was the Tabernacle of the Congregation of God, dwhich
Moses, the servant of the LORD, had made in the wilderness.
4. e
But the Ark of God had David brought up from fKirjathjearim to the place which
David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.
5. Moreover, gthe brazen altar that hBezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made,
i
he put before the Tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation
sought unto it.
6. And Solomon went up thither to the brazen altar before the LORD, which was at
the Tabernacles of the Congregation, and offered one thousand burnt offerings
upon it.
7. And in that same night did God appear to Solomon, and said unto him, “Ask what
I shall give you.” [It does not say whether God appeared as God the Father, or as
God the Son, in a vision, or in physical form, but Solomon knew who it was, without
asking for confirmation.]
8. And Solomon replied unto God, “You have shown great mercy unto David my
father, and have made me to reign in his stead.
9. “Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established; for you
have made me king over a people jlike the dust of the earth in multitude.
10. “Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this
people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?” [Growing up, Solomon
saw his father had to wrestle with many issues in the kingdom, and how he needed
spiritual guidance, to make the correct decisions. Therefore, Solomon asked for
wisdom and understanding, to rule the nation of Israel for God’s glory.]
11. And God said to Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked
for riches, or wealth, or honour, or for the life of your enemies, neither have you
Asked for long life; but have asked for wisdom and knowledge and understanding
for thyself, so that you may judge My people, over whom I have made you king:
12. [P] Wisdom and knowledge is given unto you; and I will also give you riches, and
wealth, and honour, such as knone of the kings have had, that have been before
you, neither shall there be any after you that have the like.
[Notice that God makes a distinction between “riches” and “wealth”. Most people today
think that they are the same ~ BUT God says that they are different!]
13. Then Solomon came from his journey to the lhigh place that was at Gibeon back
to Jerusalem, from before the Tabernacle of the Congregation, and reigned over
Israel.
14. mAnd Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and nhe had fourteen hundred
(1,400) chariots, and twelve thousand (12,000) horsemen, which he placed in othe
chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

15. And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar
trees, made he as the sycamore trees that are in the valley for abundance.
16. And aSolomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s
merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
17. And they fetched up and brought forth out of Egypt, a chariot for six hundred (600)
shekels of silver, and a horse for one hundred & fifty (150): and so brought they
out horses for all-of the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their
b
means.

CHAPTER TWO: SOLOMON’S CHOICE: HIS MESSAGE TO HURAM

1. And Solomon determined to build a house for the name of the LORD, and a house
for his kingdom.
2. And Solomon selected out seventy thousand (70,000) men to bear burdens, and
eighty thousand (80,000) to hew the mountain, and three thousand-six hundred
(3,600) to oversee them. [This large workforce was needed to literally level the
top of Mount Moriah, so that there would be a flat area large enough for The Temple
of the LORD and King Solomon’s Palace to be constructed.]
3. c
And Solomon sent to dHuram the king of Tyre, saying, “eAs you did deal with David
my father, and did send him cedars to build him a house to dwell therein, even so
deal with me.
4. “Behold, I build a house to the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him
and to burn before him fsweet incense, and for gthe continual showbread, and for
the burnt offerings, both morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, and on the new
moons, and on the solemn feasts, of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance
forever in Israel.
5. “And the house which I build is great: for great is our God, above all gods.
6. “But who is able to build Him a house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens
cannot contain Him? Who am I then, that I should build Him as house, save only
to burn sacrifice before Him?
7. *** “Send me now therefore, a man cunning to work in gold, and in silver, and in
brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that can skill hto
grave with the cunning men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, iwhom
David my father did provide.
8. “Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and jalgum trees, out of Lebanon: for I know
that thy servants have skill to cut timber in Lebanon: and, behold my servants
shall be with thy servants.
9. “Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build
shall be kwonderfully great.
10. “And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, ltwenty
thousand (20,000) measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand (20,000)
measures of barley, and twenty thousand (20,000) baths of wine, and twenty
thousand (20,000) mbaths of oil.”
11. Then Huram, the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon,
“nBecause the LORD has loved His people, He has made you king over them.”

12. Hiram said moreover, “Blessed by the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and
earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, aendued with prudence and
understanding, that might build a house for the LORD and a house for his kingdom.
13. “And now I have sent a cunning man, endued with understanding, of Hiram my
father’s,
14. “bThe son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre,
skilful to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, in stone, and in
timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson: also to grave any
manner of graving; and to find out every device that shall be put to him, with thy
cunning men, and the cunning men of my lord David, thy father.
15. *** “Now therefore, the wheat, and the barley, the oil and the wine, which cmy
lord has spoken of, let him send unto his servants:
16. “And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as you shall need: and we will
bring it to you in floats by sea to Joppa; and you shall carry it up to Jerusalem.”
17. And Solomon numbered all-of dthe strangers that were in the land of Israel, after
the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and there were
found one hundred-fifty-three thousand-six hundred (153,600).
18. And he set seventy thousand (70,000) of them to be bearers of burdens, and
eighty thousand (80,000) to be hewers in the mountains, and three thousand-six
hundred to be overseers to set the people to work. [Note: every foreign person
that was numbered in Israel was set to work, all 153,600 of them. From within
their own ranks, were their overseers selected. If you did not like it ~ you could
leave Israel and go find another country to live in!]

CHAPTER THREE: THE DIMENSIONS & FURNITURE OF SOLOMON’S TEMPLE

1. Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in Mount Moriah,
where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had
prepared in the threshing floor of Ornan, the Jebusite. [This is the same place that
the LORD told Moses to take his son Isaac and offer him up as a sacrifice. Notice
it is the land of Ornan the Jebusite, not the land of any Palestinian!]
2. And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year
of his reign.
3. Now, these are the things wherein Solomon was einstructed for the building of the
house of God. fThe length by cubits after the first measure, was sixty cubits, and
the breadth twenty cubits. [The foundation was 90 feet long and thirty feet wide.]
4. And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to
the breadth of the house twenty cubits (30 feet) and the height was one hundred
and twenty cubits (120 feet high) and he overlaid the inside walls and the ceiling
with pure gold.
5. And the ggreater house he made the ceiling of fir tree, which he overlaid with fine
gold, and set thereon designs of palm trees and chains.
6. And he hgarnished the garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and
the gold was gold of iParvaim.
7. He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls, and the doors,
with gold; and engraved cherubims on the walls.
8. And he made the Most Holy House, the length whereof, was according to the
breadth thereof, twenty cubits by twenty cubits. [A square 30 feet by 30 feet.] He
overlaid it with six hundred talents of fine gold. [Valued at $18 million].

9. And the weight of the gold nails were fifty shekels. And he overlaid the upper
chambers with gold.
10. And in the Most Holy House (the Holy of Holies) he made atwo cherubims of image
work, and overlaid them with gold.
11. And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits (30 feet) long: one wing of the
one cherubim was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other
wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.
12. And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the
house: and the other wing was five cubits, also joining to the wing of the other
(first) cherub. [The two cherubs were constructed so that one wingtip touched one
wall, the other wingtip touched the wingtip of the second cherubim, and its other
wing touched the other wall.]
13. The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they
stood on their feet, and their faces were binward.
14. And he made the vail of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and cwrought
cherubims thereon.
15. d
Also, he made before the house two pillars of ethirty-five cubits fhigh, and the
chapiters that were on the tops of the pillars was five cubits.
16. And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the head of the pillars; and
made one hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.
17. And he reared up (erected) the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand,
and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand gJachin,
and the name of that on the left hBoaz.

CHAPTER FOUR: DIMENSIONS & FURNITURE OF SOLOMON’S TEMPLE ~

(CONTINUED)
1. Moreover, he made ian altar of brass, twenty cubits in length thereof, and twenty
cubits the bread thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof. [30 feet long, 30 feet
wide, and 15 feet high.]
2. j
Also, he made a molten sea of ten cubits, kfrom brim to brim, round in compass,
and five cubits in height; and a line of thirty cubits did compass round about it.

4. It stood upon twelve oxen; three looking towards the north, and three looking
towards the west, and three looking towards the south, and three looking towards
the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all-of their hind parts were
(facing) inwards. [So, in whichever way you looked, there were eyes continually
watching you.]
5. And the thickness of it was the
handbreadth, and the brim of it, the work
of the brim of a cup, awith flowers and
lilies; and it received and held thousand
baths.
6. And he made also bten lavers, and put
five on the right hand, and five on the left
hand, to wash in them: csuch things as
they offered for the burnt offerings, they
washed in them; but the sea was for the
Priests to wash in. [To purify themselves,
before they take offerings to the altar.]
7. And he made dten candlesticks of gold, according to their form, and set them in
the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left. (10 is the spiritual number
for rebellion).
8. He made also eten tables, and placed them in the Temple, five on the right side,
and five on the left. And he made 100 fbasons of gold.
9. Furthermore, he made the court of the Priests, and the great court, and doors for
the court, and overlaid the doors of them with brass.
10. And he set the sea on the right side of the east end, over against the south,
11. gAnd Hiram made the pots, and the shovels, and the basons. And Hiram hfinished
the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the House of God:
12. To wit, the two pillars, and ithe pommels, and the chapiters which were on the
tops of the two pillars, and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels of the
chapiters, which were on the top of the two pillars.
13. And four hundred pomegranates on each wreath, to cover the two pommels which
were jupon the pillars.
14. He also made bases, and lavers he made upon the bases;
15. One sea, and twelve oxen under it.
16. And pots also, and the shovels, and the flesh-hooks, and all-of the instruments,
did Huram his father make to king Solomon, for the house of the LORD God of
k
bright brass.
iIn the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay of the ground between Succoth
and Zeredathah.
17. Thus, Solomon made all-of these vessels that were in great abundance: for lthe
weight of the brass could not be found out.
18. And Solomon made all-of the vessels that were for the House of God, the golden
altar also, and the tables, whereon the showbread was set;
19. Moreover, the candlesticks with their lamps, that they should burn after the

and the entry of the house, the inner doors, thereof for the Most Holy Place, and
the doors of the house of the Temple, were all-of gold.
CHAPTER FIVE: THE ARK IS BROUGHT INTO THE ORACLE AND GOD TURNS UP
IN HIS GLORY
1. Thus, all-of the work that Solomon made for the House of the LORD was finished:
and Solomon brought in all-of the things that David his father had dedicated: and
the silver, and the gold, and all-of the instruments he put among the treasures of
the House of God.
2. b
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all-of the heads of the tribes,
the chief of the fathers, of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the
ARK of the Covenant of the LORD, out of the City of David, which is Zion. [Having
heard of the mistakes that his father king David made moving the ARK, I am sure
that Solomon was very careful in following all-of the instructions given in scripture,
so that no more innocent people will be killed.]
3. Wherefore, all-of the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the
feast, which was held in the seventh month (the month of completion).
4. And all-of the elders of Israel came: and cthe Levites took up the ARK.
5. And they brought up the ARK, and the Tabernacle of the congregation, and all-of
the Holy Vessels, that were in the tabernacle, these did the Priests and the Levites
bring up. [Notice that the Levites carry the ARK, and the Priests carry the Holy
Vessels.]
6. Also, king Solomon, and all-of the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto
him before the ARK, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told, nor
numbered, for their multitude.
7. And the Priests brought in the ARK of the Covenant of the LORD unto His place,
even under the wings of the (two giant) Cherubims.
8. For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the Ark (as shown on
page 7), and the cherubims covered the ARK and the staves thereof above.
9. And they drew out the staves of the ARK, that the end of the (two) staves were to
be seen dfrom the ARK before the Oracle; but they were not seen without (outside
the Holy Place). And there it is unto this day.
10. There was nothing in the ARK, save the two tablets, which Moses put therein at
Horeb, when the LORD made a Covenant with the children of Israel, ewhen they
came out of Egypt. [It is here that you realise that some very important artifacts
have been lost. The Ark previously contained the two Tablets God gave to Moses,
(mentioned here), also the bowl of Incense, the bowl of Manna, and Aaron’s staff
that budded. It is believed that these items were lost when the ARK was taken
onto the battlefield by the Jews and was captured by the Philistines and taken into
the house of their god Dagon. After Dagon fell down twice before the ARK of God,
and the people all got boils, it was returned to Israel.]
11. And it came to pass, when the Priests were come out of the Holy Place: (for all-of
the Priests that were fpresent were sanctified, and did not then wait by gcourse:
12. Also, the Levites which were the singers, all-of them of Asaph, of Heman, of
Jeduthun, with their sons, and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having
cymbals, and psalteries, and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with
then one hundred-twenty Priests, sounding with trumpets):

13. It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and the singers were as one, to make one
sound to be heard in praising than thanksgiving the LORD: asaying, “For He is
good; for His mercy endures forever: that then the House was filled with a cloud,
even the House of the LORD;
14. So that the Priests could not stand to minister, by reason of the cloud: for the
glory of the LORD had filled the House of God, (His Holy Temple).

CHAPTER SIX: KING SOLOMON’S PRAYER OF CONSECRATION

1. Then said Solomon, “The Lord has said that He would dwell in the thick darkness,
2. “But I have built a House for Habitation for Thee, and a place for thy dwelling for
ever.”
3. And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and
all-of the congregation of Israel stood.
4. And he said, “Blessed by the LORD God of Israel, who has with His hands fulfilled
that which He spoke with His mouth to my father David saying,
5. ‘Since the day that I brough forth My people out of the hand of Egypt, I chose no
city among all-of the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that My name might be
there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
6. b
BUT I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name might be there: and have chosen
David, to be over My people Israel.
7. “Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the
LORD God of Israel.
8. “But the LORD said to David my father, ‘Forasmuch as it was in your heart to build
a house for My name, you did well in that it was in your heart:
9. ‘Notwithstanding, you shall not build the house; but you son, which shall come
forth out of your loins, he shall build the house for My name.’

Israel.
11. “And in it I have put the ARK, wherein is the Covenant of the LORD, that He made
with the children of Israel.”
12. And he stood before the altar of the LORD, in the presence of all-of the
congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
13. For Solomon has made aa brazen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits bwide,
and three cubits high, and had set in in-the-midst-of the (Temple) court: and upon
it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all-of the congregation of
Israel, and spread forth his hands towards heaven,
14. And said, “O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like you in the heaven, nor in the
earth: which keeps covenant, and shows mercy unto thy servants, that walk before
you with all-of their hearts:
15. [FP] “You which have kept with your servant David my father that which you
promised him: and spoke with your mouth, and has fulfilled it with your hand, as
it is this day.
16. *** “Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep your servant David my father
that which you have promised him, saying, c‘There shall not fail thee a man in My
sight to sit upon the throne of Israel: yet, so that thy children take heed to their
way to walk in My law, as you have walked before me.
17. “Now then, O LORD God, of Israel, let Your Word be verified, which you have
spoken unto your servant David.
18. “But will God in very deed dwell with men upon the earth? Behold, heaven and the
heaven of heavens, cannot contain thee: how much less this house which I have
built!
19. *** “Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication,
O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer, which thy servant prays
before you:
20. “That your eyes maybe opened upon this house, (both) day and night, upon the
place whereof You have said that You would put Your name there: to hearken unto
the prayer which your servant prays towards this place.
21. *** “Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of Your people
Israel, which they shall make towards this place: hear thou from your dwelling
place, even from heaven: and when You hear, forgive.
22. [CP] [“IF] a man sins against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make
him swear, and an oath come before your altar in this house;
23. [CP] [“THEN] hear You from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting
(avenging) the wicked, by recompensing (repaying) his ways upon his own head:
and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.
24. [CP] “And [IF] your people Israel dbe put to the worse before the enemy, because
they have sinned against thee: and shall return and confess thy name, and pray
and make supplications before thee, in this house;
25. [CP] [“THEN] hear from the heavens, and forgive the sins of thy people Israel, and
bring them again unto the land which You gave to them and to their fathers.
26. [CP] “When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned
against thee; yet, [IF] they pray towards this place, and confess thy name and

28. [CP] [“IF] there be dearth in the land, [IF] there be pestilence, [IF] there be

and render unto every man according unto all his ways; whose heart you know;

32. [CP] “Moreover, concerning the stranger which is not of your people Israel, but is

33. [CP] [“THEN] hear you from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do all
according to all that the stranger calls to thee for: that all the people of the earth

34. [CP] [“IF] Thy people go out to war, against their enemies, by the way that you
shall send them, and they pray unto You, towards this city, which you have chosen,
and the house which I have built in thy name;
35. [CP] [“THEN] hear them from heaven, their prayer and their supplication, and
maintain their dcause.
36. [CP] [“IF] they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sins not,) and you be
angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and ethey carry them
away captive, unto a land far off, or near;
37. Yet if they frethink themselves in the land whither they are taken captive, and turn
and pray unto thee, in the land of their captivity, saying, “We have sinned, we
have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
38. [CP] [IF] they return to thee with all of their heart, and with all-of their soul, in
the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray
towards their land which you gave unto their fathers, and toward the city, which
you have chosen, and toward the house, which I have built for thy name:
39. [CP] THEN] hear them from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their
prayers and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people,
which have sinned against thee.
40. Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be
attentive unto the prayer that is made in this place.
41. *** Now therefore, arise O LORD God, into thy gresting place, you, and the Ark of
thy strength: let thy Priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy
saints rejoice in goodness.
42. O LORD God, turn not away thy face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of
David thy servant.
CHAPTER SEVEN: GOD ANSWERS WITH FIRE; THE FEAST OF DEDICATION
1. Now, when Solomon had finished praying, the fire came down from heaven, and
consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD God
filled the House.

2. And the Priest could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of
the LORD had filled the LORD’S House.

3. And when all-of the children of Israel saw how the fire came down (from heaven),
and the glory of the LORD upon the House, they bowed themselves with their faces
to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying,
“For He is Good; and His mercy endures forever!”
4. a
Then the king, and all-of the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.
5. And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand (22,000) oxen, and
one hundred-twenty thousand sheep: so, the king and all-of the people dedicated
the House of God. [The feast went for 7 days, therefore 3,142 oxen and 17,142
sheep were killed and offered as a sacrifice to the LORD each day. A lot of blood
was shed when the Temple was dedicated. This also explains why all-of the Priests
were present, to minister in the Temple altar.]
6. And the Priests waited on their “offices”: the Levites also with instruments of music
of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because His
mercy endures forever, when David praised bby their ministry; and the Priests
sounded the trumpets before them, and all-of Israel stood.
7. Moreover, Solomon hallowed the middle of the court, that was before the house of
the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings,
because the brazen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive burnt
offerings, and the meat offerings and the fat.

13
8. Also, at the same time, Solomon kept the feast for seven days, and all Israel with
him, a very great congregation, from the entering of Hamath, unto athe River of
Egypt.
9. And on the eight day, they made ba solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication
of the altar for seven days, and the feast for seven days.
10. And on the twenty-third day of the seventh month, he sent the people away into
their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed
unto David, and to Solomon, and to the people of Israel.
11. Thus, Solomon finished the House of the LORD, and the King’s house: and all that
came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own
house, he prosperously effected. [Note: the construction of the Temple and king
Solomon’s palace. Here they are indicated as being constructed simultaneously.
However, in 1 Kings it says that the Temple was completed in the 8th month of the
11th year of his reign, taking 7 years to build. But it took 13 years to complete his
palace. 1 Kings 7:1-12]
12. [P] And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night and said unto him, “I have heard
your prayer, and have chosen this place to myself, for a house of sacrifice.
13. [CP] “[IF] I shut up heaven that there is no rain, OR [IF] I command the locusts
to devour the land, OR [IF] I send pestilence among my people:
14. [CP] “[IF] my people, which are called by my name shall (1) humble themselves,
and (2) Pray, and (3) Seek My face, and (4) Turn from their wicked ways,
c
[THEN] (and only then) will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin,
and heal their land.
Many people (even pastors) quote 2 Chronicles 7:14 as a promise of God without
conditions. They claim that God will hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their
land; BUT they never indicated the pre-conditions that God lays out before this, that we
are required to do, for this to take place.
In verse 13, God makes it very clear, that He can send trials and punishment upon His
people, for their sins and/or rebellion to His laws and statutes.
One must remember, that is the Same God, who created the universe, but who cast
Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden, because they broke just one Law that He had
commanded them. So, in verse 13, God is warning His people that these things can
happen to them, and then He says that He will only respond to the nation of Israel [IF]
they do 4 things. Don’t get confused here. [IF] His people do not do ALL 4 things listed
here, [THEN] God will not even listen from heaven!
This is the same God of the OL Covenant, and the New Testament. The ONLY difference
is that in the OLD Testament, the sins were covered, BUT NOT FORGIVEN. In the New
Covenant, through the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, the sins of both Jews & Gentiles
are forgiven.
Today, the same conditions apply: God Almighty can send plagues and pestilences upon
His people, and upon nations who are rebellious, and who are to be punished for the
“corporate sins”. And it is only if we fulfil these 4 conditions that we will get God’s
attention, and “Hear from Heaven.” Why? Because our sins are a blockage, preventing
our prayers from reaching the courtroom of heaven.
15. [CP] (Only after these conditions have been met). “Now, my eyes shall be open,
and my ears attentive dunto the prayer that is made in this house.
16. [P] “For now I have chosen, and sanctified this house, that my name may be there
forever: and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.
17. [CP] “And as for you (Solomon) [IF] you will walk before me, as David your father

my statutes and my judgements;

19. [CP] “BUT if you turn away, and forsake my statutes, and my commandments,
which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
20. [CP] “[THEN] will I pluck them up by the roots, out of my land, which I have given
them; and this house, which I have sanctified, for my name, will I cast out of my
sight, and will make it a proverb, and a byword among all nations.
21. And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to everyone that passes
by it; so that he will say, “Why has the LORD done thus unto this land and unto
this house.
22. *** And it shall be answered: “Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers,
which brought them out of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped
them, and served them: therefore, has He brought all-of this evil upon them.”

CHAPTER EIGHT: SOLOMON’S BUILDINGS, & YEARLY SACRIFICES

1. And ait came to pass at the end of twenty years, where-in Solomon, had built the
house of the LORD, and his own house.
2. That the cities that Huram had brestored to Solomon, Solomon built them, and
caused the children of Israel to dwell therein.
3. And Solomon went to Hamath-Zobah, and prevailed against it.
4. And he built Tadmor, in the wilderness, and all-of the store cities, which he built
in Hamath.
5. And he built cBeth-horon, the upper, and Beth-horon, the nether, fenced cities,
with walls, gates, and bars.
6. And Baalath and all-of the store cities that Solomon had, and all-of the chariot
cities, and the cities of the horsemen, and dall that Solomon desired to build in
Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and throughout all-of the lands of his dominion.
7. As for all-of the people that were left of the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the
Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which were not of Israel. [Notice at
this stage neither the Philistines (which were all destroyed), nor the Palestinians
(which did not exist ~ because they are Cretans) are mentioned.]
8. But of their children, who were left after them in the land, whom the children of
Israel consumed not, then did Solomon make to pay tribute until this day.
9. But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no servants for his work: but they
were men of war, and chief of his captains, and captains of his chariots, and
horsemen.
10. And these were the chief of king Solomon’s officers, even etwo hundred & fifty
(250) that bare rule over the people. [Moses chose 70 to rule over the people &
here Solomon has 250 people to rule over the people, limiting the issues that
needed to be brought forward to the king, only if they could not resolve them.]
11. And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharoah out of the city of David unto the
house that he had built for her (beside his palace): for he said, “My wife shall not
dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are fholy, whereunto
the ARK of the LORD had come. [This is an interesting revelation that Solomon
had here. His wife is the Pharoah’s daughter, who is not a Jew, and does not
worship the God of Israel, so she is not allowed to live in the presence of the
Almighty, the God of Israel, but must be separated from them, unless she agrees
to follow and believe in the God of Israel.]

12. Then Solomon offered burnt offerings unto the LORD on the altar of the LORD,
a
which he had built on the porch, (before the entrance to house of the LORD God
of Israel).
13. Even after a certain rate bevery day, offering according to the commandment of
Moses, con the Sabbath, and on the new moons, and on the solemn feasts, three
times in the year, (Passover, Shavuot (Pentecost), and Tabernacles) even in the
feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of Tabernacles.
14. And he appointed according to the order of David his father, the courses of the
Priests, to their service, and dthe Levites, to their charges, to praise and minister
before the Priests, as the duty of every day required: the porters also by their
courses at every gate: for eso had David the man of God commanded.
15. And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the Priests, and
Levites, concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures.
16. Now, all-of the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of
the House of the LORD, and until it was finished. So, the House of the LORD was
perfected.
17. Then went Solomon to Ezio Gerber (also called Ezion-Gerber) and to fEloth, at the
seaside, in the land of Edom.
18. And Hiram sent him by the hands of his servant ships, and servants that had
knowledge of the sea; and they went with the servants of Solomon to Ophir, and
took thence four hundred & gfifty talents of gold and brought it to the king. [So,
where was the land of Ophir?
Ophir (/ˈoʊfər/;[1] Hebrew: ‫אֹופיר‬,
ִ Modern: ʼŌfīr, Tiberian: ʼŌp̄īr) is a port or region
mentioned in the Bible, famous for its wealth. Its existence is attested to by an inscribed
pottery shard found at Tell Qasile (in modern-day Tel Aviv) in 1946, dating to the eighth
century BC,[2][3] which reads "gold of Ophir to/for Beth-Horon [...] 30 shekels"[a][4] The
location of Ophir is unknown, though the find confirms it as a real place from which gold
was imported.[5]

BIBLICAL REFERENCES:
Ophir in Genesis 10 (the Table of Nations) is said to be
the name of one of the sons of Joktan.[b] The Books of
Kings and Chronicles tell of a joint expedition to Ophir by
King Solomon and the Tyrian king Hiram I from Ezion-
Geber, a port on the Red Sea, that brought back large
amounts of gold, precious stones and 'algum wood' and
of a later failed expedition by king Jehoshaphat of
Judah.[c] The famous 'gold of Ophir' is referenced in several other books of the Hebrew
Bible.[d]
The New Testament apocrypha book Cave of Treasures contains a passage: "And the
children of Ophir, that is, Send, appointed to be their king Lop horon, who built Ophir
with stones of gold; now, all the stones that are in Ophir are of gold."[7]
CHAPTER NINE: THE QUEEN OF SHEBA VISITS KING SOLOMON
1. And hwhen the Queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove
Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great company of camels
that bare spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she came
to Solomon, she communed with him with all-of that which was in her heart. [This
would have been a large, well-guarded caravan.]

4. And the meat on his table, and the sitting of his servants, ad the attendance of his
ministers, and their apparel: his acupbearers also, and their apparel; and his ascent
by which he went up into the house of the LORD: there was no more spirit in her.
5. And she said to the king, “It was a true report which I heard in my own land of
thine bacts, and of thy wisdom:
6. “Howbeit, I believed not their words, until I came and my own eyes have seen it;
and behold, the one half of thy greatness was not told me; for you exceeded the
fame that I heard. [This is a challenge to every Christian. People know you, and
talk about you, but when people come to see you for themselves, do they see that
you are greater, and wiser, than what they have already been told? ARE YOU A
GREATER WITNESS FOR JESUS THAN THEY HAD BEEN TOLD?]
7. “Happy are your men; and happy are your servants; which continually stand before
you, and hear your wisdom.
8. *** “Blessed be the LORD thy God, which delights in you, to set you on His throne,
to be king for the LORD thy God: because thy God loved Israel, to establish them
forever, therefore, made you king over them, to do judgement and justice.
9. And she gave the king 120 talents of gold, and of species in great abundance, and
precious stones; neither was there any such spice as the queen of Sheba gave to
Solomon.
10. And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold
from Ophir, brought algum wood (Algum wood is a type of timber derived from
the hardwood tree species known as Pterocarpus erinaceus, commonly found in
Africa) and precious stones.
11. And the king made of the algum trees, cterraces to the house of the LORD, and to
the king’s palace, and harps and psalteries for singers: and there were none such
seen before in the land of Judah.
12. And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she
asked, beside that which dshe had brought unto the king. So, she turned, and went
away to her own land she and her servants. [The queen of Sheba is said to have
had her summer “holiday house” in Wadi Bani Khalid, which is in the Sultanate of
Oman, formerly known as the Trucial States of Oman. I was fortunate to be able
to visit this hidden valley in 1982, which is surrounded by mountains, and as such,
has its own climate & echo system; a beautiful and peaceful place, away from the
hot summer sun, underneath the date palms, beside the pools of ever-flowing
water. It is literally a place of “rivers in the desert”.]
13. e
Now the weight of the gold that came to Solomon in one year was “666” talents
of Gold. [Red flags should already be waving when you see that number.]
14. Beside that which chapmen (itinerant dealer) and merchants brought. And all-of
the kings of Arabia and fgovernors of the country brought gold and silver to
Solomon.
15. And king Solomon made 200 targets of beaten gold: 600 shekels of beaten gold
went to make one target.
16. And g300 shields he made of beaten gold: 300 shekels of gold was used to make
each shield. And the king put them in the house of the Forest of Lebanon (the main
conference room in his palace.)
17. Moreover, the king a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with gold.

standing by the stays.
19. And 12 lions stood there on the one side and on the other side of the six steps.
There was not the like made in any of the kingdom.
20. And all-of the drinking vessels of king Solomon were of gold, and all-of the vessels
of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were of bpure gold: cnone were of silver, it
was not accounted for anything in the days of Solomon. [Silver did not have any
value.]
21. For the king’s ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram: every three
years, once came the ships of Tarshish bringing gold, divory, apes and peacocks.
22. And king Solomon passed all-of the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom.
23. And all-of the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his
wisdom, that God had put in his heart. [Interesting, that even unbelieving kings,
who worshipped other gods, recognised that the wisdom given to Solomon was
from the LORD God of Israel.]
24. And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold,
and raiment, harness, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate, year by year.
25. eAnd Solomon had 4,000 stalls for horses, and chariots, and 12,000 horsemen:
whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
26. fAnd he reigned over all-of the kings from the griver (Euphrates) even unto the
land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt.
27. And the king made hsilver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees made he as the
sycamore trees, that are in ithe lower plains in abundance.
28. And they brought unto Solomon horses out of Egypt, and out of all lands.
29. jNow, the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the
k
Book of lNathan, the Prophet, and in the mprophecy of nAhijah the Shilonite, and
in the visions of oIddo, the pseer, against Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
30. And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all-of Israel for 40 years.
31. And Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the City of David his
father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
CHAPTER TEN: THE REVOLT OF TEN TRIBES FROM REHOBOAM

2. And it came to pass that when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt,

where he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam
returned out of Egypt.
3. And they sent and called him. So, Jeroboam ad all-of Israel came and spoke to
Rehoboam, saying,

we will serve thee.” [[IF] you make our life easier, [THEN] we will serve you.]
5. And he said unto them, “Come again in three days,” and the people departed.
6. And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon

7. [CP] And they spoke unto him, saying, “[IF] you be kind to this people, and please

8. But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the
young men (who had no experience, and very little wisdom) that now stood before
him.
9. And he said unto them, “What advice do you give that we may return an answer
to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, ‘Ease somewhat the yoke that
your father did put upon us’?”
10. And the young men that were brought up with him spoke unto him saying; “Thus

them, ‘My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

12. So, Jeroboam and all-of the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the
king had commanded, saying, “Come again on the third day.”
13. And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of
the old men,
14. And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, “My father made
your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto; my father chastised you with whips, but I
will chastise you with scorpions.”
15. So, the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the
LORD might perform His word, which He spoke by the hand of Ahijah, the Shilonite,
to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16. And when all-of Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people
answered the king saying, “What portion do we have in David? And we have no
inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents. O Israel: and now, David,
see to thine own house. So all-of Israel (the 10 tribes of Israel) went to their tents.
17. But as for the children of Israel, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned
over them.
18. Then king Rehoboam sent bHadoram, that was over (responsible for) the tribute;
and the children of Israel (the 10 rebellious tribes) stoned him with stones that he
died. But king Rehoboam cmade speed to get himself up into his chariot and he
fled back to Jerusalem.
19. And the 10 rebellious tribes of Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this
day.
CHAPTER ELEVEN: REVOLT OF THE 10 TRIBES OF ISRAEL AGAINST REHOBOAM
1. And when Rehoboam had come back to Jerusalem (with his tail between his legs,
like a coward) he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin, 180,000 chosen
men, which were warriors, to fight against the 10 rebellious tribes of Israel, that
he might bring the whole kingdom once again back to Rehoboam. (BUT God had
other plans. God now makes the split clear, by referring to the rebellious tribes as
Israel and the loyal tribes as Judah.)
2. But the Word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, the man of God, saying,
3. [C] “Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all-of Israel in
Judah and Benjamin saying,
4. [C] “Thus says the LORD: You shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren:
return every man to his house: for this thing is done of ME”: And they obeyed
the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam. [Rehoboam

times, to decide which way He should go, in which places he should build cities,
and against which countries he should go to war. But Rehoboam never enquired
of God for direction in this situation ~ he asked for man’s advice. He took man’s
advice, and this opened the door for God’s prophecies to become active. Now the
challenge: If the King, the President, or Prime Minister of your nation, or the pastor
of YOUR Church, says to do something, and a recognised prophet of God comes
with a different instruction, how many would follow the prophet today, ~ instead
of their “earthly leader?” In October 2023, we are presently look earnestly at the
situation in the Middle East, and in Israel and Gaza, and many people are coming
up with different scenarios of what has happened, how it happened, and why it
has happened. But has anybody asked the LORD, what His plan is, in “allowing
this to happen?” Jesus knows the end from the beginning, so what is the bigger
picture here??
5. And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
6. He built even Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa.
7. And Beth Zur, and Shoko and Adullam.
8. And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph.
9. And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10. And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fenced
cities.
11. And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and store of victuals,
and of oil and wine.
12. And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceedingly
strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
13. And the Priests and the Levites that were in all of Israel, resorted to him out of all
their costs.
14. For the Levites left atheir suburbs, and their possessions, and came to Judah, and
Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons bhad cast them off from executing the
Priest’s office unto the LORD: [If you make a decision to prevent God’s Priests &
Levites from performing their God-ordained duties, this it is not going to end well
for you and your nation.]
15. And he ordained him cPriests for the high places, and for dthe devils, and for ethe
calves, which he had made. [In just a few weeks, a king led 10 tribes away from
following after the God of Israel, to following after, and worshipping, of man-made
gods. Anyone who has read scripture will know that this is like waving a flag at a
bull ~ God will react and punish them at his appointed time.]
16. And after them, out of all-of the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts (not their
minds) to seek the LORD God of Israel, came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the
LORD God of their fathers. [Here again, despite what was going on around them,
they chose to still worship the God of Israel, and went to Jerusalem to worship
Him, as was instructed to their fathers, in God’s word. In today’s uncertain world,
we have to choose to still worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel),
from our hearts, continually worshipping and praise Jesus, the resurrected
Saviour.]
17. So, they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of
Solomon strong for three years: for three years, they walked in the ways of David
and Solomon (obeying and following God’s laws and statutes.)
18. And Rehoboam took Mahalath, the daughter of Jerimoth, the son of David to wife,
and Abihail the daughter of fEliab, the son of Jesse:
19. Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.

20. And after her he took Maachah, the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah,
and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21. And Rehoboam loved Maachah, the daughter of Absolom above all-of his wives
and his concubines: for he took eighteen wives in all, and 60 concubines; and he
begat 28 sons, and 60 daughters.
22. And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his
brethren: for he thought to make him king.
23. And he dealt wisely, and dispersed all-of his children throughout all the countries
of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in
abundance. And he desired amany wives.
CHAPTER TWELVE: JERUSALEM IS SPOILED BY SHISHAK
1. And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established his kingdom, and had
strengthened himself, bhe forsook the law of God, and all-of Israel with him. [In
less than 5 years, with the wrong advisors, Rehoboam led his kingdom away from
God and his laws. This is why it is so important to have godly advisors in leadership
of churches, and governments, to avoid God’s wrath.]
2. And it came to pass, that cin the 5th year of the reign of king Rehoboam, that
Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed
the LORD, [When a nation forsakes the laws of God Almighty, there will always be
consequences; God will not be mocked.]
3. With twelve hundred chariots, and sixty thousand horsemen: and the people
without number, that came with him out of Egypt: the dLubins (also known as
Lubis, by the Egyptians, a kingdom in Africa near Egypt, under tribute to Egypt),
and the Sikkim’s, and the Ethiopians.
4. And Shishak etook the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to
Jerusalem. [Here in just 5 years, the land of Israel has degenerated from the
greatest nation on earth under King Solomon, to be split into two nations, and now
under attack, by Egypt, a people who worship idols, and “other gods”.]
5. *** Then came fShemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah,
that were gathered together at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them;
“Thus says the LORD; You have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in
the hands of Shishak.”
6. Whereupon, the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said;
“The LORD is righteous.”
7. *** [P] And when the LORD saw that they had humbled themselves, the Word of
the LORD came to Shemaiah again saying; “They have humbled themselves;
therefore, I will not destroy them, but I will grant them gsome deliverance; and
my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem, by the hand of Shishak.
8. [P] “Nevertheless, they shall be his servants; that they may know hmy service,
and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
9. i
So, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away all-of the
treasures of the House of the LORD, and the treasures of the King’s house: he took
all: he carried away also the shields of gold, jwhich Solomon had made.
10. Instead of which, Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the
hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house. [Brass
when polished looks like gold, but it is not gold, a false image of the real thing.]
11. And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and
fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.

12. And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned away from him, that
he would not destroy him altogether; and also, in Judah things went well.
13. So, king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam
was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for seventeen
years in Jerusalem, athe city which the LORD had chosen out of all of the tribes of
Israel, to put His name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah, an Amonitess.
14. And he did evil, because he bprepared not his heart to seek the LORD.
15. cNow the acts of Rehoboam, the first and the last, are they not written in the dbook
of Shemaiah the Prophet, and of eIddo the seer, concerning fgenealogies? And
there were wars between Rehoboam (Judah) and Jeroboam (Israel’s 10 rebellious
tribes) continually.
16. And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David: and
g
Abijah (Abijam) his son reigned in his stead.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN: ABIJAH’S SUCCESSFUL WAR AGAINST JEROBOAM

1. Now, in the 18th year of king Jeroboam’s reign (king of Israel) began Abijah to
reign over Judah.
2. He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was also hMichaiah, the
daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. iAnd there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
3. And Abijah jset the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four
hundred thousand (400,000) chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array
against him with eight hundred thousand (800,000) chosen men, being mighty
men of valour.
4. And Abijah stood up on mount kZemaraim, which is in lmount Ephraim, and said;
“Hear me thou Jeroboam, and all-of Israel;
5. “Ought you not know that the LORD God of Israel mgave the kingdom over David
for ever, even to him and to his sons, by na covenant of salt?
6. “Yet Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon, the son of David, is risen
up, and has rebelled against his LORD.
7. “And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial (one of the
biblical names of the Devil), and have strengthened against Rehoboam, the son of
Solomon, when Rehoboam was oyoung and tender-hearted, and could not
withstand them.
8. “And now you think to withstand pthe kingdom of the LORD, in the hands of the
sons of David; and you be a great multitude, and there are with you qgolden calves,
which Jeroboam made for you as gods.
9. “rHave you not cast out the Priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites,
and have made you Priests, after the manner of the other (worldly) nations of
other lands? So, that whosoever comes sto concentrate himself with a young
bullock and seven rams, the same may be a Priest of them that are no gods.
10. “But as for us, the LORD IS our God, and we have not forsaken Him; and the
Priests which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait
upon their business.
11. “And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening, tburnt sacrifices;
and the sweet incense; the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table;

12. “And behold, God Himself, is with us for our captain, and his Priests bwith sounding
trumpets, to cry alarm against you.”
13. But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them: so, they were before
Judah and they were also behind them. [Remember Jeroboam’s army was twice
the size of that of the King of Judah; they are outnumbered 2:1.]
14. And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before them and behind them:
and they cried out to the LORD, and the Priests sounded with their trumpets.
15. Then the men of Judah gave a shout (of faith): and as the men of Judah shouted,
it came to pass that God (intervened) and smote Jeroboam and all-of Israel’s
troops, before Abijah and Judah.
16. And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their
hand.
17. And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down
five hundred thousand (500,000) chosen men.
18. Thus, the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of
Judah prevailed; because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
19. And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, cBethel, with the
towns thereof, and Jeshanah, with the towns thereof, and Ephraim with the towns
thereof.
20. Neither did Jeroboam regain strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD
d
struck him and ehe died.
21. But Abijah waxed mighty, and married 14 wives, and begat twenty-two sons, and
sixteen daughters.
22. And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the
story of the Prophet fIddo. [The moral of this chapter: Follow after God and obey
His laws and His commandments and you will be protected and blessed. Turn away
from God Almighty to follow after other gods and expect punishment ~ not only
upon yourself, but upon those around you as well.]

CHAPTER 14: ASA’S GOOD REIGN

1. So, Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and
g
ASA his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet for ten years.
2. And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.
3. And he took away the altars of the strange gods, and hthe high places, and broke
down the images, and cut down the groves. [He recognised that these things were
not according to God’s Word, and that they were polluting the nation and its
people, so they must be destroyed, if God was to bless and protect them. Do you
have anything in your nation that is more important that worshipping Jesus?
Is there any regular event in YOUR NATION that brings out more people to attend
that gathering, than going to worship Jesus? If so, you have a strange god in your
nation, which needs to be removed, because it takes glory away from Jesus!]
4. And he commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the
Law and the commandments. [He did not command them to just “read the law
and the commandments”, but to “DO THEM!” THESE ARE STRONG ACTION
WORDS! How many nations have Abortion Laws, or Same-sex marriage Laws, or
Euthanasia laws on the statutes of their nations? These are ALL LAWS which are
contrary to God’s Laws, and need to be repealed, why? Because God will not go

against His own word; God will NOT BLESS ANY NATION which have laws which
contradict His Laws, because that is a form of rebellion against God Himself!]
5. Also, he took away out of all-of the cities of Judah the high places and the aimages:
(where they offered up sacrifices to other gods, and worshipped their images;)
and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6. And he built bfenced cities in Judah; for the land had rest; and he had no war in
those years: because the LORD had given him rest.
7. *** Therefore, he said unto Judah, “Let us build these cities, and make walls
around them, and towers, gates and bars, while the land is yet before us; because
we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought Him, and He has given us rest
on every side. So, they built and they prospered.
8. And Asa had an army of men that carried targets and spears out of Judah, c300,000
and out of Benjamin, that carried shields and drew bows, 280,000: all-of these
were mighty men of valour. [A combined army of 580,000 men, ready to fight for
righteousness.]
9. And there came out against them Zerah, the Ethiopian with a host of a thousand
thousands, (1 million men) and 300 chariots: and came unto dMareshah.
10. And Asa went out against him (again outnumbered 2:1), and they set the battle
in array in the valley of eZephathah at Mareshah.
11. And Asa cried out unto the LORD his God, and said, “LORD it is nothing with thee
to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us O LORD,
our God: for we rest on thee, and in thy name, we go out against this multitude.
O LORD, you are our GOD; let no man prevail against you. [King Asa laid it out
before the LORD; You are our God, we are going out to fight against this enemy
in YOUR NAME, therefore, let the victory be to glorify your name.]
12. So, the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the
Ethiopians fled.
13. And Asa and the people that were with him pursued after them unto fGerar; and
the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they
were destroyed before the LORD; and before His host; and they carried away very
much spoil.
14. And they smote all-of the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came
upon them: and they spoiled all-of the cities, for there was exceedingly much spoil
in them.
15. They also smote the tents of the cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in
abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
CHAPTER FIFTEEN: ASA PUTS AWAY IDOLATRY IN JUDAH
1. And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Obed;
2. [CP] And he went out gto meet Asa, and said unto him, “Hear you me, Asa, and
all-of Judah, and Benjamin: The LORD is with you: while you be with Him; and
h
[IF] you seek Him, He will be found by you; [BUT] i[IF] you forsake Him, [THEN]
He will forsake you.
3. “Now for a long season, Israel has been without a TRUE God, and without ja
teaching Priest, and without law.
4. “But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought
Him, He was found of them.
5. “And in those times, there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that
came in, but great vexations were upon all-of the inhabitants of the countries.

8. And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Obed the prophet, he took
courage, and aput away the babominable idols, out of all of the land of Judah and
Benjamin, and out of the cities cthat he had taken from Mount Ephraim, and he
renewed the altar of the LORD, that was dbefore porch of the LORD. [The is the
altar that Solomon had made when he constructed the Temple.]
9. And he gathered all-of Judah and Benjamin, and ethe strangers with them out of
Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon; for they fell to him out of Israel in
abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
10. So, they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem, in the 3rd month of the 15th
year of the reign of king Asa.
11. And they offered unto the LORD at fthe same time, of gthe spoil, which they had
brought (back from the war), 700 oxen, and 7,000 sheep.
12. [P] And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers, with
all-of their hearts, and with all-of their soul;
13. [P] That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death,
whether small or great, whether man or woman.
14. [P] And they swore unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with
trumpets, and with cornets.
15. And all-of Judah rejoiced at this oath: for they had sworn with all-of their heart,
and sought him with their whole desire; and He was found of them: and the LORD
gave them rest round about. [Now, imagine if the “CHURCH” was required to take
that same oath today, what would be the outcome?]
16. h
And concerning Maachah, the imother of Asa the king; he removed her from being
queen, because she had made and jidol in a grove; and Asa cut down her idol, and
k
stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.
17. BUT (sadly) lthe high places were not taken away out of Israel (only in Judah and
Benjamin): nevertheless, the heart of Asa was perfect all of his days.
18. And he brought into the House of God the things that his father had dedicated,
and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold and vessels.
19. And there was not more war until the 35th year of the reign of Asa.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN: ASA IS REPROVED BY HANANI, THE SEER
1. In the 36th year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel, came up against Judah,
and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out, or come in to Asa,
king of Judah. [He was stopping people going up to the Temple in Jerusalem to
worship the God of all-of Israel, or to do business with the people in Jerusalem.]
2. Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the House of the
LORD, and of the king’s house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt in
m
Damascus saying,
3. “There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and
your father: behold I have sent you silver and gold: go break thy league with
Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.” [In the previous chapter, king
Asa had led the whole nation of Judah and Benjamin, as well as all-of the Priests
of Aaron, and the Levites to make an oath before the LORD and to seek Him with
their whole hearts, and the LORD had promised that in return He would be there

for them in all situations. But here he is now, robbing the treasures from God’s
Temple, to give them to an unbelieving king. How quickly people forget their oaths,
when their faith is tested. People must always remember that money given to the
Temple (or to a Church) is God’s money, and they are accountable for its use for
God’s glory, not for every whim that comes along. In this instance it is not even
recorded that king Asa went to the seer, or the prophet, to ask the LORD for
guidance; to ask the LORD, for what action He should take.]
4. And Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of ahis armies
against the cities of Israel: and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all-
of the store cities of Naphtali.
5. And it came to pass, that when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah,
and let his work cease.
6. Then king Asa took all-of Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and
the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba
and Mizpah. [Now we have an ethical and spiritual dilemma; King Asa did not fight
against king Baasha, so the stones and the timber of Ramah, were not “spoils of
battle”, therefore He stole them from Baasha to build these two towns. Whether
we like to call it “opportunistic gathering” or not, this was stealing, and now king
Asa has broken a fundamental commandment of God.]
7. *** [P] And at that time, Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said
unto him, “Because you have brelied upon the king of Syria, and not relied upon
the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine
hand.
8. [P] “(Remember), were not cthe Ethiopians and dthe Lubims ea huge host, with
very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you did rely upon the LORD, fHe
delivered them into thine hand.
9. *** [P] “Forg the eyes of the LORD run to and from throughout the whole earth,
to show Himself strong on behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards Him.
Herein you have done foolishly: therefore, from henceforth you shall have wars.”
10. Then Asa was very angry with the seer, and put him in the prison house; for he
was in a rage with him because of his message. And Asa oppressed some of the
people at the same time. [This is what happens when you don’t like hearing the
truth, and you allow Satan to come in and steal your peace. This also why in
today’s society, many pastors do not like people who have the “office of the
prophet”, because they may have a message from the LORD that they don’t want
to hear, because it usually means correction!]
11. And behold, hthe acts of Asa, the first and the last, lo, they are written in the Book
of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
12. And Asa in the 39th year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was
exceedingly great: yet in his disease, he sought not the LORD, but to physicians.
[He still had not learnt his lesson; to trust the LORD in all things, and in all
situations. It is suggested that he suffered from severe gout, because of his
lifestyle and eating habits.]
13. And Asa slept with his fathers and died in the 41st year of his reign.
14. And ithey buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had jmade for himself in the
City of David, and laid him in the bed, which was filled kwith sweet odours and
various kinds of spices, prepared by the apothecaries’ art: and they made la great
burning for him.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: JEHOSHAPHAT REIGNS WELL AND PROSPERS
1. And aJehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against
Israel.
2. And he placed forces in all-of bthe fenced cities in Judah and set garrisons in the
land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, in cwhich Asa his father had taken.
3. And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways dof his
father David, and sought not to follow Baalim.
4. But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in His commandments, and
not after ethe doings of (the 10 rebellious tribes) of Israel.
5. *** Therefore, the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all-of Judah
f
brought to Jehoshaphat gpresents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.
6. And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover, he took away the
high places and the groves out of Judah. [Finally, there is a king in the nation, that
recognises that the high places, where people worship other gods, is an
abomination before God Almighty and must be destroyed, if the nation is to receive
the full blessing and protection from the God of Israel.]
7. Also, in the 3rd year of his reign, he sent to the princes, even to Ben-hail, and to
Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, hto teach in the
cities of Judah.
8. And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and
Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and
Tobadonijah, Levites: and with them Elishama and Jehoram, Priests.
9. And they taught in Judah, and had the Book of the Law of the LORD with them,
and went about throughout all-of the cities of Judah, and taught the people. [Can
you imagine the change that would happen in any nation today, if its leadership
mandated people to go out to all-of the cities in their nation and teach the Word
of God to all-of the people?]
10. And ithe fear of the LORD fell upon all-of the kingdoms of the lands that were round
about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
11. Also, some of the jPhilistines kbrought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver;
and the lArabians brought him flocks, 7,700 rams, and 7,700 goats.
12. And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah mcastles, and
storage ncities.
13. And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men
of valour in Jerusalem.
14. And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers; of
Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the Chief; and with him, mighty men of
valour, 300,000. [which had to be housed, clothed and fed.]
15. And onext to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him 280,000, [which had
to be housed, clothed and fed.]
16. And next to him Amaziah the son of Zichri, pwho willingly offered himself unto the
LORD: and with him 200,000 mighty men of valour. [which had to be housed,
clothed and fed.]
17. And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with
bows and shields 200,000 men, [which had to be housed, clothed and fed.]
18. And next to him was Jehozabad, and with him 180,000, ready and prepared for
war. [which had to be housed, clothed and fed.]
19. These waited on the king, beside those whom the king had placed in the fenced
cities throughout all-of Judah. [This was altogether 1,160,000 troops plus those in
the fenced cities, ready and able to go and defend Judah against any enemy. When

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: AHAB, SEDUCED BY FALSE PROPHETS IS SLAIN

1. Now, Jehosaphat ahad riches and honour in abundance, and bjoined affinity with
king Ahab.
2. And cafter certain years dhe went down to king Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed
sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him,
and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth-Gilead.
3. And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me
to Ramoth-Gilead?” And he answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as
your people; and we will be with thee in the war.”
4. And Jehosaphat said unto the king of Israel, “Inquire, I pray thee, at the Word of
the LORD today.”
5. *** Therefore, the king of Israel gathered together of men 400 prophets, and said
unto them, “Shall we go up to Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” And
they said, “Go up; for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.” [notice this scripture
says “prophets of men” ~ not prophets of the LORD.]
6. But Jehosaphat said, “Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we
might inquire of him?” [Let us not hear from the prophets of men, let us hear what
the LORD God has to say to us.]
7. And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, “Yes, there is but one man, by whom
we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto
me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla.” And Jehoshaphat said,
“Let not the king say so.” [God’s prophets always speak the truth; it is just that
sometimes kings do not want to hear the truth. That is why the king of Israel, said
that he prophesied evil towards him.]
8. And the king of Israel called for one of his eofficers, and said, “fFetch quickly Micaiah
the son of Imla.”
9. And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat either of them on his
throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a gvoid place, at the entering in of
the gate of Samaria; and all-of the prophets prophesied before them.
10. And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, “Thus
says the LORD, ‘With these you shall push Syria until hthey be consumed’.”
11. And all-of the prophets prophesied so, saying; “Go up to Ramoth-Gilead, and
prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.”
12. *** And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Behold
the words of the prophets declare good to the king; with one assent; Let thy words
therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.”
13. And Micaiah said, “As the LORD lives, even what my God says, THAT will I speak.”
[Micaiah made it very clear; He would not be swayed by what 400 men had already
spoken ~ even if they were all in agreement ~ in unity, He would only speak the
words given to him by the LORD God of Israel ~ whether they be good, or bad.]
14. [P] And when he came to the king, the king said unto him, “Shall we go to Ramoth-
Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” And he said to the king, “Go up, and prosper,
and they shall be delivered into your hand.”
15. And the king said unto him, “How many times shall I adjure thee that you say
nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?”

as sheep that have no shepherd: And the LORD said, ‘These have no master: let
them return therefore every man to his house in peace’.”
17. And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he would not
prophesy good unto me, abut evil?
18. *** Again, Micaiah said, “Therefore, hear the Word of the LORD; I saw the LORD
sitting upon His throne, and all-of the host of heaven, standing on His right hand,
and on His left.
19. “And the LORD said; Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and
fall at Ramoth-Gilead? And one spoke saying after this manner, and another spoke
after that manner.
20. Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice
him. And the LORD said unto him. Wherewith? [And the God of Creation, who
knows the end from the beginning, asks this question; How are you going to do
that?].
21. [P] “And he said; I will go out and be a lying spirit, in the mouth of all-of his
prophets. And the LORD said; You shall entice him, and you shall also prevail; go
out and do even so.”
22. ***[P] “Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of
all-of his prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil against you.” [Now many
Christians may have problem with this verse, because they believe that this is
impossible for God ~ to do something which would seem to be evil.]
23. Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah upon the
cheek, and said, “Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto
thee?”
24. And Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day when you shall go into an
inner chamber to hide yourself.”
25. Then the king said, “Take you Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon, the governor
of the city, and to Joash, the king’s son;
26. “And say to him, ‘Thus says the king, ‘Put this fellow in the prison and feed him
with the bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace’.”
27. [CP] And Micaiah said, [IF] you certainly return in peace, [THEN] has not the LORD
spoken by me.” And he said, “Hearken all-of you people.” [This is the test; [IF]
the king returns, you will know that the Spirit of the LORD was not speaking
through me; BUT [IF] the king does not return, [THEN] you will know that the 400
prophets of men were lying.]
28. So, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth-Gilead.
29. And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will, disguise myself and will go to
the battle; but you put on your robes.” So, the king of Israel disguised himself:
and they went to the battle. [Why did the king of Israel disguise himself? Well,
my guess is that he did it, just in case Micaiah the prophet of God was actually
telling the truth, so he would not be killed.]
30. Now the king of Syria has commanded his captains of the chariots that were with
him, saying, “Fight you not with small or great save only against the king of Israel.”
31. *** And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that
they said, “It is the king of Israel.” Therefore, they bcompassed about him to fight:
but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to
depart from him.
32. For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was
not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

between the joints of the harness: therefore, he said to his chariot man, “Turn
thine hand that you may carry me out of the host; for I am cwounded.”
34. And the battle increased that day: Howbeit that king of Israel stayed himself up
(propped himself up) in his chariot, against the Syrians until the evening: and at
about the time of the sun going down he died. [The king of Israel did this, so that
his troops would continue to fight against the Syrians until nightfall.]

CHAPTER NINETEEN: JEHOSHAPHAT REPROVED BY JEHU THE SEER

1. And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his home in peace to Jerusalem.
2. *** And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king
Jehoshaphat. “Should you help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD?
Therefore, is wrath upon thee from the LORD.” [Beware, when a prophet of God
comes out to meet you when returning from a journey, because it is usually NOT
good news ~ but judgement!
[Here is where we see a major distinction between the OLD Testament, and the New
Testament. Jesus said, “You have heard of old, that you love you neighbour, but you
hate your enemy. But I have a “better way; Love your enemy also. Here the prophet is
making a distinction: Should you help the ungodly & love those that hate the LORD?
That is different! So, as we look at the situation in the world today, these same questions
arise; Should we help the ungodly? Should we love those hate the LORD? In both cases,
the answer to these questions in the NEW Testament is a resounding YES! Because,
while we were ungodly, Jesus died for us on the cross. While we rebelled against the
LORD, He still died for us. BUT we also must help those that we LOVE. We have to help
BOTH, as our duty to Jesus. We are not the JUDGE, HE IS!]
“Saul killed his thousands; David killed his ten thousand’s”. This was the chant
of the Jewish people at that time. Did God say that this was wrong? NO! When Nathan
the prophet came to David, He was not judged by God “for killing the people in War!”
BUT he was judged for “MURDERING Uriah the Hittite, to take his wife!”
Even in the 10 Commandments, it says: THOU SHALL NOT MURDER! Sadly, some Bibles
have mistranslated this to read thou shall not “Kill”. God actually makes a distinction
between “killing” and “murder”.
So, let us look at the situation in Gaza and in Israel; ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE ~ (not
according to our emotions). God does not condone killing in wars. He even COMMANDED
JOSHAU to kill all-of the inhabitants of Canaan; men, women, and children, even all-of
the animals ~ leave nothing alive, to pollute the ground which was to be the Promised
Land. BUT GOD does hold people accountable for murdering innocent babies in their
cots, or beheading people, who refuse to denounce Jesus Christ, or who force people
into showers and then turn on the gas, or people who fly planes into buildings, or plant
bombs to kill innocent people.
3. “Nevertheless, there are dgood things found in thee; in that you have etaken the
groves away out of the land, and has prepared your heart to seek God.
4. And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and fhe went out again through the people
from Beersheba, to gMount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the LORD God
of their fathers.
5. And he set hjudges in the land throughout all-of the fenced cities of Judah, city by
city.
6. And said to the judges; “Take heed what you do, for iyou judge not for man, but

there is ano iniquity with the LORD our God, nor brespecter of persons, nor taking

8. Moreover, in Jerusalem, did Jehoshaphat set cof the Levites, and of the Priests,
and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the Judgement of the LORD, and for
controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
9. And he charged them, saying, “Thus shall you do, in the fear of the LORD, faithfully
and with a perfect heart.
10. “And dwhat cause soever that comes to you of your brethren that dwell in their
cities, between blood, and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and
judgements, you shall even warn them that they trespass not against the LORD,
and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do and you shall not
trespass.
11. “And, behold, eAmariah the high Priest is over you: fin all matters of the LORD;
and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, gfor all-of the
king’s matters: also, the Levites shall be officers before you. hDeal courageously,
and the LORD shall be with the good.
CHAPTER TWENTY: JAHAZIEL’S PROPHECY: THE GREAT OVERTHROW OF THE
ENEMIES
1. It came to pass after this also, that the children of iMoab, and the children of
Ammon, and with them others beside the Ammonites, came up against
Jehoshaphat to battle.
2. Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, “There comes a great
multitude against you from the sea on this side Syria: and behold, they be in
Hazazontamar, which is jEngedi.”
3. And Jehosaphat feared, and set khimself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast
throughout all-of lJudah. [Imagine the change in our nation, if the Prime Minister,
and the Parliament, and all-of the Church leaders called a “National Fast right
across Australia”, in times of trouble, and all gathered together and prayed to God
for guidance and direction.]
4. And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask for help of the LORD: even out of
all-of the cities of Judah, they came to seek the LORD.
5. And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalen, in the house
of the LORD, before the new court.
6. And said; “O Lord God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? And don’t you
rule over all-of the kingdoms of the heathen? And in your hand is there not power
and might? so that there is none that can withstand you?
7. “Are you not our God that drove out all-of the inhabitants of this land before your
people Israel, and gave it to the seed of Abraham your mfriend forever?
8. “And they dwelt therein, and have built you a sanctuary therein for you name,
saying,
9. ‘[nIF] when evil comes upon us, as the sword, judgement, or pestilence, or famine,
we stand obefore this house, and in your presence, (for pyour name is in this
house,) and cry out unto you, in our affliction, [THEN] will you hear and help.

13. And all-of Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their
children.
14. Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the
son of Mattaniah, a Levite, of the sons of Asaph, ccame the Spirit of the LORD, in-
the-midst-of the congregation.
15. And he said, “Hearken you, all Judah, and all-of you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and
you king Jehoshaphat, ‘Thus says the LORD unto you, be not afraid nor dismayed
by reason of this great multitude; for dthe battle is not yours, but God’s.

17. fYou shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves and stand still, and see
the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be
dismayed, tomorrow, go out against them: gfor the LORD will be with you.
18. And Jehoshaphat hbowed his head with his face to the ground: and all-of Judah
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
19. And the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korhites,
stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.
20. And they rose up early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa:
and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you
inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall you be
established: believe his prophets, so shall you prosper.”
21. And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD,
and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army,
and to say, “Praise ye the LORD, for His mercy endures forever.” [The singers went
first, the musicians right behind praising the LORD, and He gave them the victory.]
22. [FP] iAnd when they began jto sing and praise (HIM), the LORD, set kambushes
against the children of lAmmon, Moab, and Mount Seir, which were come against
Judah; and mthey were smitten.
23. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount
Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they have made and end to the
inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped nto destroy another.
24. And when Judah came towards the watch-tower in the wilderness, they looked
unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and
o
none escaped.
25. And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they
found among them in abundance, both riches with the dead bodies, and precious
jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away:
and they were three days gathering the spoils, it was so much!
26. *** And on the 4th day, they assembled themselves in the valley of pBerachah: for
there they blessed the LORD: therefore, the name of the place was called, The
Valley of Berachah (the valley of blessing) unto this day.

28. And they came to Jerusalem with bpsalteries and harps, and trumpets, unto the
House of the LORD.
29. And cthe fear of God was on all-of the kingdoms of those countries, when they had
heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.
30. So, the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for His dGod gave him rest round about.
31. eAnd Jehosaphat reigned over Judah: he was 35 years old when he began to reign,
and he reigned 25 years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah, the
daughter of Shilhi.
32. And he walked in the ways of ASA his father; and departed not from it; doing that
which was right in the sight of the LORD.
33. Howbeit, fthe high places were not taken away; for as yet, the people had not
g
prepared (surrended) their hearts, unto the God of their fathers. [Here another
distinction is made; They had prayed to God in faith, and God had answered their
prayers and then they had blessed Him: BUT they were still not prepared to
completely surrender their hearts to God. Have you done that?]
34. Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, from the first until the last, behold, they
are written in the “hBook of Jehu” the son of Hanani, iwho jis mentioned in the
Book of Kings of Israel.
35. And after this kdid Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of
Israel, who did very wickedly:
36. And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made
the ships in Ezion-Geber.
37. Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat
saying; “Because you have joined yourself to Ahaziah, the LORD has broken your
works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish. [Even
though Jehoshaphat was recognized by God of having a heart FOR God; but
because of his actions during his reign, God had to send two prophets to correct
his mistakes. Here is an example of a man who knows “ABOUT God”, who “PRAYS
TO God”, gets “ANSWERS TO HIS PRAYER FROM God”; but who has not “surrended
his heart to God.” It is only when we completely surrender to God, that we have
perfect peace, even in times of trials!]

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE: JEHORAM’S EVIL REIGN & INFAMOUS DEATH

From the previous chapter, we find that Jehoshaphat reigned in Jerusalem for twenty-
five years, and did what was right in the sight of the LORD.
1. Now, Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David. And
Jehoram, his son reigned in his stead.
2. And he had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat; Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah,
Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were sons of Jehoshaphat, king of Israel.
3. And their father gave them great gifts of silver and of gold, and of precious things,
with lfenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom he gave to Jehoram; because he was
the firstborn.
4. Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened
himself, and slew all-of his brothers, with the sword, and various other princes
also. [We had determined in the previous chapters that God makes a clear

distinction between “killing in battle” and “murder,” so this is not going to be a
good outcome for king Jehoram.]
5. Jehoram was 32 years old when he began to reign in Jerusalem, and he reigned
for only eight years. [Spiritually the number 8 means a new beginning, but here
we see that after two kings who were righteous before the LORD, we now have a
king who have become evil.]
6. And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel (rebellious & evil); like as did the
house of Ahab: for he had athe daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that
which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.
7. Howbeit, the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant
that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a blight to him and to
his sons forever. [Therefore, punishment must come upon the nation of Judah.]
8. And in his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made
themselves a king.
9. Then Jehoram went forth cwith his princes, and all-of his chariots with him: and he
rose up by night, and smote the Edomites, which compassed him in, and the
captains of the chariots.
10. So, the Edomites revolted from under the unto this day. The same time, also did
Libnah revolt from under his hand: because he had forsaken the LORD of his
fathers.
11. Moreover, he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the
inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.
12. And there came a writing to him, from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Thus says the
LORD God of David your father (forefather). Because you have not walked in dthe
ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah.
13. “But have walked in ethe ways of the kings of Israel, and has made Judah and the
inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the fwhoredoms, of the house of
Ahab, and have also gslain thy brethren, of your father’s house, which were better
than yourself.
14. Behold, with ha great plague will the LORD smite your people, and your children,
and your wives, and all-of your goods:
15. And you shall have great sickness of your bowels, until your bowels fall out by
reason of the sickness day by day. [Haemorrhoids’]
16. Moreover, the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the iPhilistines, and of
the Arabians, that were near the jEthiopians:
17. And they came up into Judah, and broke into it, and carried away all-of the
substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives: so
that there was never a son left to him, except kJehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
18. And after all-of this, the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.
[For all-of those Christians who think of Jesus as “meek and mild” and “always
doing good,” you make have a problem with this verse. You believe Jesus heals all
manner of sickness and disease, and He would never put sickness upon a person,
especially not an “incurable disease.” [IF] the word of God says that it is incurable,
[THEN] even Jesus cannot heal it!
19. And it came to pass, that in the process of time, after the end of two years, his
bowels fell out, by reason of his sickness; so, he died of sore diseases. And his
people made no burning ceremony for him, like the burning of his fathers.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: AHAZIAH’S EVIL REIGN
1. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his cyoungest son king in his
stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all-
of the eldest. dSo, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
2. Forty-Two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned for only
one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was also was Athaliah, ethe daughter of
Omri.
3. He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor
to do wickedly.
4. *** Wherefore, he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: for
they were his counsellors after the death of his father, to his destruction.
5. He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of king Ahab of
Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-Gilead: and the Syrians smote
Joram.
6. And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds fwhich had been
given him at Ramoth, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And gAzariah
(also called Ahaziah) the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram
the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.
7. And the hdestruction of Ahaziah was of God, by coming to Joram: for when
he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, iwhom
the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. [Because Ahaziah followed
after the evil ways of the kings of Israel, instead of the righteousness of the kings
of Judah, God is planning to remove him from reigning over Judah. Our actions
are always accountable before God; both good and evil! Some for blessings and
others for punishment.]
8. And it came to pass, that when jJehu was executing judgment upon the house of
Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah,
that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.
9. k
And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he hid in Samaria,) and they
brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, lthey buried him: Because they
said, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who msought the LORD with all-of his heart.
So, the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
10. nBut when Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose
and destroyed all-of the royal seed of the House of Judah.
11. But oJehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash, the (youngest) son of
Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him
and his nurse in the bedchamber. So, Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, the
wife of Jehoiada, the high Priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him inside
the Temple, so that Athaliah, knew him not.
12. And he was with them, hidden in the Temple (under God’s divine protection) for
six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land. [Athaliah usurped the throne, she
had no legal right of succession; she did this out of rage and revenge for the death
of her son.]

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: JOASH MADE KING; ATHALIAH IS SLAIN
1. And in the 7th year, aJehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains, of
hundreds, Azariah the son of Jehoram, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and
Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son
of Zichri, into covenant with him.
2. And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all of the cities of
Judah, and the chief fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem. (Without arising
any suspicions that may get back to the queen.)
3. And all-of the congregation made a covenant with the king, in the House of God.
And he said unto them; “Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the LORD has said
of the sons of David.
4. This is the thing that you shall do; One third of you entering on the Sabbath, of
the Priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the bdoors;
5. And another third of you shall be at the king’s house; and the third part at the
gate of foundation: and all-of the people shall be in courts of the house of the
LORD.
6. But let none come into the House of the LORD except the Priests, and cthey that
minister of the Levites, they shall go in because they are holy: but all-of the people
shall keep the watch of the LORD.
7. And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapon
in his hand and whosoever else comes into the house, he shall be put to death:
But you be with the king, when he comes in and when he goes out.
8. So, the Levites and all-of Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the high Priest
had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the
Sabbath, with them that were to go out on the Sabbath: for Jehoiada the Priest
dismissed not dthe courses.
9. Moreover, Jehoiada the Priest delivered to the captains one hundred spears,
bucklers, and shields, that had been king David’s, which were in the house of God.
10. And he set every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right eside of the
f
Temple to the left side of the fTemple, along by the altar and the fTemple, by the
king round about.
11. Then they brought out the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him
the Testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and
said, “God save the King!”
12. Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king,
she came to the people, into the house of the LORD:
13. And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar, at the entering in, and
the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all-of the people of the land rejoiced,
and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of music, and gsuch
as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said; hTreason,
Treason.
14. Jehoiada brought out the captains of the hundreds, that were set over the host,
and said unto them, “Have her forth of the ranges: and whosoever follows her, let
him be slain with the sword.” For the Priest said, “Slay her not in the house of the
LORD. [We do not want her evil blood to defile this holy place.]
15. So, they laid hands upon her; and when she had come out to the entering in of
the Horse gate, by the king’s house, they slew her there.
16. And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all-of the people, and
between the king, that they should be the LORD’s people.

17. And then, all-of the people went to the House of Baal, and broke it down, and
broke his altars and his images into pieces, and slew Mattan, the Priest of Baal
before the altars. [Their first act after taking the covenant before God was to go
and break down the altars to other gods, and cleanse the area!]
18. Also, Jehoiada appointed his offices of the houses of the LORD by the hand of athe
Priests the Levites, whom bDavid had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer
the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing
and with singing, as it was ordained by David. [They performed the duties, offering
the sacrifices before the Lord, with singing and rejoicing. Today, we offer
communion is silence, or with sombre music. Maybe we should also be taking
communion with singing and rejoicing. Singing, that our sins are covered by the
blood of the Lamb, and rejoicing, that we will soon be able to see Him, face-to-
face, in all-of His glory. Then, Communion would take on its full meaning.]
19. And he set the cporters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none which
was unclean in anything should enter in.
20. And he took the captains of the hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of
the people, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: And they
came through the high gate into the king’s house, and set the king upon the throne
of the kingdom. [Would there not be a significant change in the attitude of every
nation, if the “church leadership” took up this role today, by placing the king, or
the president, or the prime minister, into their official places of authority, clearly
showing that that authority is given to them, by God, because God “allows” specific
people to be placed into leadership. Once in that position of leadership authority,
they are personally responsible to God ~ not to man.]
21. And all-of the people rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that, they had slain
Athaliah with the sword. [She had no legal right to the throne; But God allowed
her to be there for a short period, until the next part of His plans was put into
place.]

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR: JOASH REIGNS WELL

1. Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for forty years
in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Zibiah of Beersheba.
2. And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, dall the days that
Jehoiada was High Priest.
3. (As his direct family were dead) Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat
sons and daughters.
4. And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded eto repair the house of the
LORD.
5. And he gathered together the Priests and the Levites, and said to them; “Go out
unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all fIsrael money to repair the House of your
God from year to year, and see that you hasten the matter”. gHowbeit the Levites
hastened it not.
6. And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him: “Why have you not
required the Levites to bring to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the
collection, according to the commandment of hMoses the servant of the LORD, and
of the congregation of Israel, for the Tabernacle of Witness?
7. “For the sons of Athaliah that wicked woman, had broken up the House of God:
and also, all-of the dedicated things, of the house of the LORD did they bestow
upon Baalim.

8. And the king commanded that they make a chest, and set it aoutside, at the gate
of the House of the LORD.
9. And then made ba proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to
the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the
wilderness.
10. And all-of the people and all-of the princes rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into
the chest, until they had made an end.
11. Now it came to pass, at what time that the chest was brought into the king’s office,
by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the
king’s scribe and the high Priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it
and, and carried it to his place again. And thus, they did day by day, and gathered
money in abundance.
12. And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the
House of the LORD; and hired masons, and carpenters, to repair the House of the
LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass, to mend the House of the LORD.
13. So, the workmen wrought and the work was perfected by them, and they set the
House of God in His state, and strengthened it.
14. And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king
and Jehoiada, cwhereof were made many vessels for the House of the LORD., even
vessels to minister, and dto other withal, and spoons, and vessels of gold and
silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually, eall-
of the days of Jehoiada.
15. But Jehoiada waxed old and was full of days when He died, one hundred and thirty
(130) years old when he died.
16. And they buried him in the City of David among the kings, because he had done
good in Israel, both towards God, and also towards his own house.
17. Now after the death of Jehoiada, came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance
to the king. Then the king listened to them.
18. And they left the House of the LORD God of their fathers, and served fgroves and
idols: and gwrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem, for this their trespass.
19. h
Yet, he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD, and they
i
testified against them; but they refused to listen (to the warnings).
20. And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada the Priest, which
stood above the people, and said unto them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you
transgress the commandments of the LORD, that you cannot prosper? Because
you have forsaken the LORD, He has forsaken you’!”
21. (And they did not like the hear the truth of his message), And they conspired
against him, and jstoned him with stones, at the commandment of the king kin the
court in the House of the LORD.
22. Thus, Joash the king remembered not the kindness that Jehoiada his father had
done to him, but slew his son (the prophet, who spoke the truth). And when he
died (Zechariah), said, “The LORD look upon it and require it.” [When you kill a
prophet who speaks God’s judgement against you, there will always be
consequences!]
23. And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against
him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the
people, from among the people, and send all-of the spoil of them unto the king of
Damascus. [For more than 3,000 years there has been enmity against Israel from

24. For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD
delivered a very great host into their hand, BECAUSE they had forsaken the LORD
God of their fathers. [The Syrian army was being used by God, to punish Joash for
killing His prophet.]
25. And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his
own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the Priest,
and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David,
BUT NOT in the sepulchre of the kings.
26. And these are the names of those that conspired against him: aZabad the son of
Shimeath, an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of bShimrith, a Moabitess.
27. Now, concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and
the crepairing of the House of God, behold, they are written in the story, in the
book of the kings. And Amaziah his son, reigned in his stead.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE: AMAZIAH SMITES THE EDOMITES!

1. Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign and he reigned twenty-
nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
2. And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but NOT dwith a perfect
heart. [God makes this clear distinction. You can do things which is “right in the
sight of the LORD”, but your heart is not perfect; there is still a portion of it which
allows Satan to enter.]
3. Now it came to pass when the kingdom was eestablished to him, that he slew his
servants that had killed his father. [There was still revenge in his heart.]
4. But he slew not their children, but did what was written in the Book of the Law of
Moses, where the LORD commanded saying, ‘the father shall not die for the
children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for
his own sin.’
5. Moreover, Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over
thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers,
throughout and Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them, ffrom twenty years
old and above, and found (that there were) gthree hundred thousand (300,000)
choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.
6. He hired also a hundred thousand (100,000) might men of valour out of Israel for
one hundred talents of silver. [But he did enquire of the LORD, if it was OK to hire
Israeli soldiers to fight with Judah and Benjamin.]
7. [C] But there came a man of God to him, saying, “O King, let not the army of
Israel go with thee; for the LORD is NOT with Israel (the 10 rebellious tribes), to
wit, with all-of the children of Ephraim.
8. [CP] “But [IF] you will do it: be strong for the battle: [THEN] God shall make thee
fall before the enemy: For God had power to help, or to cast down.” [The prophets
made it very clear: [IF] you take them into the battle with you; [THEN] God will
make sure that you lose the battle.]
9. And Amaziah said to the man of God, “What shall I do with the 100 talents of silver
that I have given to the harmy of Israel?” And the man of God answered, “The
LORD is able to give you much more than this.” [You have a choice, keep the
troops, at a cost of 100 talents of silver, and lose the battle; or lose the 100 talents
of silver, and win the battle.]

10. Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of
Ephraim, to go ahome, again: wherefore their army was greatly kindled against
Judah, and they returned home bin great anger.
11. And Amaziah strengthened himself, and he led forth his people, and cwent to the
valley of salt, and smote the children of Seir, ten thousand (10,000).
12. And the other ten thousand (10,000) left alive, did the children carry away captive,
and brought them to the top of dthe rock, and cast them down from the top of the
rock, that they all were broken in pieces.
13. But the (100,000 angry) esoldiers of the army fwhich Amaziah sent back, that they
should not go with him to battle, fell upon the (undefended) cities of Judah, from
Samaria, even to gBeth-horon, and smote three thousand (3,000) of them, and
took much spoil. [They took from Judah the spoil that they would have received
had they gone into battle, because in their minds, Amaziah had broken his contract
with them.]
14. Now it came to pass, that after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the
Edomites, that hhe brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be
his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense to them.
[When you go into battle, you collect the spoils of war, but you destroy their gods
and idols, you never bring them back into your own country, not as spoil, or not
as idols to be worshipped. This was a great sin.]
15. Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and God sent unto
him a prophet, which said unto him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the
people, iwhich could not even deliver their own people out of you hand?”
16. And it came to pass as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, “Are you
made of the king’s counsel? Forbare; why should you be smitten?” Then the
prophet forbare, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you,
because you have done this, and you have not hearkened unto my counsel.” [Who
do you think you are, coming in here and telling me how to run my kingdom! By
now Amaziah no longer respects the counsel of the God of Judah, through his
prophets.]
17. Then Amaziah, king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash the son of Jehoahaz,
the son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, “Come let us see on another in the
face.”
18. And Joash, king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The jthistle that
was in Lebanon, sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying; “Give thy daughter
to my son to wife: and there passed by ka wild beast that was in Lebanon and trod
down the thistle.
19. “You say, “You have smitten the Edomites: and your heart is lifted up to boast:
abide now at home: why should you meddle in your hurt, that you should fall, even
you, and Judah with you?”
20. But Amaziah would not listen: For it came from God, that he might deliver them
into the hands of their enemies, because lthey sought after the gods of Edom.
21. So, Joash the king of Israel went up: and they saw one another in the face; both
he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
22. And Judah was mput to the worse before Israel (they came off second best), and
they fled every man back to his tent.

the House of God, with Obededom, and the treasures of the king’s house the
hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
25. c
And Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, lived after the death of Joash, son of
Jehoahaz king of Israel, for fifteen years.
26. Now, the rest of the acts of Amaziah, (from) the first to the last, behold, are they
not written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
27. Now, after the time that Amaziah did turn away dfrom following the LORD, they
e
made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: but they sent to Lachish after him,
and slew him there.
28. And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX: UZZIAH BEGINS HIS REIGN WELL; ENDS IN DISASTER

1. Then all of the people of Judah took Uzziah (Azariah), who was sixteen years old,
and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.
2. He built Eloth and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers,
3. Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned for fifty-two
years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4. And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his
father Amaziah did.
5. [CP] And ghe sought God in the days of Zechariah, who hhad understanding in the
visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, (then) God made Him Prosper.
[IF] he continued to seek the Lord, [THEN] God made him prosper. The same
conditions apply today. [IF] we seek the Lord and His righteousness, [THEN] He
will supply all-of our needs. (Matthew 6:33).
6. And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and broke down the walls of
i
Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities jabout
Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
7. And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in
Gurbaal, and the kMehunims.
8. And the Ammonites gave lgifts to Uzziah, and his name mspread abroad, even to
the entering in of Egypt: for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
9. Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem, at the nCorner Gate, and at the oValley
Gate, and at the pturning of the wall, and qfortified them.
10. Also, he built towers in the desert, and dug many wells; for he had much cattle, in
the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the
mountains, and in rCarmel: for he loved shusbandry.
11. Moreover, Uzziah has a host of fighting men, that went out to war by tbands,
according to the number of their account, by the hand of Jeiel, the scribe, and

16. BUT cwhen he was strong, dhis heart was lifted up to his destruction: for
he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the Temple of the LORD,
to burn incense upon the alter of incense. [This was a sin, for only consecrated
Priests were allowed to enter the Temple and burn incense on the Altar of Incense
unto the LORD.]
17. And Azariah the High Priest, went in after him, and with him 80 Priests of the
LORD, that were valiant men:
18. And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, “eIt appertained not unto
thee, Uzziah to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the Priests, the sons of Aaron,
that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for you have
trespassed: neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
(a) Several things to understand from these scriptures (verses 16-18) The
“guard Priests” should not have let Uzziah inside the Temple in the first
place.
(b) Immediately the Chief Priest reacted, gathered together a fighting force of
righteous Priests to confront the king (the worldly leader) and have him
removed from the holy place.
(c) Whenever a worldly leader does this (today) that must also be the response
of the church leadership!
(d) If not, then the holy place is polluted!
19. Then Uzziah was wrath (for his authority had been questioned), and he had a
censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wrath with the Priests. The

When President Obama removed the Bible for the Oval Office and then replaced it
with the Qur’an, He defiled the Office of the President of the United States. The
Church Leadership in the USA should have protested so loudly, that he would have
been forced to replace it: but the church did nothing, and now you are suffering
the punishment for that collective church leadership failure. The Church Leadership
needs to REPENT for their lack of action.
20. And Azariah, the Chief Priest, and all-of the Priests, looked upon him, and behold,
he was leprous on his forehead, and they thrust him out from there; Yes, he
himself hastened also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.
21. And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and lived in a aseparate
house, being a leper: for he was cast off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham
his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.
22. Now, the rest of the acts of Uzziah, the first and the last, did bIsaiah the prophet,
the son of Amoz, write.
23. So, Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field
of the burial, which belonged to the kings: for they said, “He is a leper”: and
Jotham his son, reigned in his stead. [So, Uzziah reigned in Judah for 52 years,
and his whole life only warrants 23 verses of the BIBLE. So, if your life was to be
recorded in the Bible, how many lines would it take to record your life?]
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN: JOTHAM’S GOOD REIGN
1. Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen
years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was also Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok
(the High Priest).
2. And he did that which was right in the sight of God, according to all that his father
Uzziah had done; Howbeit, he entered not into the Temple of the LORD, And the
people did yet corruptly. [The scripture does not explain WHY he did not enter the
Temple; my guess is that he could not forgive God for making his father into a
leper.]
3. He built the cHigh Gates of the House of the LORD, and on the wall of dOphel he
built much.
4. Moreover, he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests, he built
castles and towers.
5. He fought against the King of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the
children of Ammon gave him the same year one hundred talents of silver, ten
thousand (10,000) measures of wheat. And ten thousand (10,000) measures of
barley. eSo much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second and
the third year.
6. So, Jotham became mighty, because he fprepared his ways before the LORD his
God.
7. Now, the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all-of his wars, and his ways, lo, they are
written in the book of the Kings of Israel and Judah,
8. He was twenty-five years old when he began his reign, and he reigned for sixteen
years in Jerusalem.
9. And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and
Ahaz his son reigned in his stead. [Jotham did all-of these things in the 16 years
he ruled over Judah and Benjamin, but he only gets a 9-verse obituary.]

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT: KING AHAZ’S EVIL REIGN; OBED’S COUNSEL
1. Ahaz awas twenty-eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for
sixteen years in Jerusalem: BUT He did not do that which was right in the sight of
the LORD, like David his (for) father:
2. For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel (the 10 rebellious tribes) and made
also bmolten images of for cBaalim. [These later become followers of Islam.]
3. Moreover, he dburnt incense in ethe valley of the sons of Hinnom, and burnt fhis
children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen nations whom the LORD
has cast out before the children of Israel.
4. He sanctified also the burnt offerings in the high places, and on the hills, and under
every green tree. [This king had turned the nation of Judah and Benjamin
completely away from God, so there was going to be punishment, because God
Almighty cannot be mocked.]
5. *** Therefore, the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria;
and they gsmote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and
brought them to Damascus. And he also delivered them into the hand of the king
of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
6. For Pekah, the son of Remaliah, slew in Judah one hundred-twenty thousand
(120,000) in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the
LORD God of their fathers. [Think; [IF] God can destroy 120,000 people in Judah
in just one day for turning away from God Almighty, imagine what He can do to
your nation, [IF] your nation turns away from the LORD.]
7. And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam,
the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was hnext to the king.
8. And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred
thousand (200,000) women and children (sons and daughters) and took away very
much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria. [So, what have we seen
as his punishment for turning the people of Judah away from the LORD? The King
of Syria has taken away a large multitude (number unknown), the king of Israel
has slaughtered 120,000 fighting men in just one day, and they also have taken
away captive 200,000 women and children. The nation of Judah and Benjamin has
been weakened and plundered, for their disobedience.]
9. BUT a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was OBED, and he went out
before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them. “Behold, because the
LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he has delivered them into your
hand, and you have slain them in a rage that reaches up into heaven.
10. [BP] “And now you purpose to under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for
bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you,
sins against the LORD your God?
11. [C] *** “Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which you have
taken captives of your brethren: for the fierce anger of the LORD is now upon you.”
[Here was a message from the LORD. You have seen what I did to Judah and
Jerusalem for their sins, by turning away from me. You have committed the same
sins. Do you want the same punishment? Therefore, release the prisoners.]
12. Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah, the son of Johanan,
Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa
the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war.
13. And said unto them, “You shall not bring the captives here: for whereas we have
offended against the LORD already, you intend to add more to our sins, and

to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce anger against

THERE IS A BIBLICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRESPASSES AND SINS

Eph 2:1 You were made alive when you were dead in trespasses and sins,
notice that we were dead in two things, trespasses AND sins. There is a difference between the two.
Trespasses have to do with specific acts of sin, while sin (not sins, but sin) has to do with a
state of being. In other words, trespasses are always about what a person does, while sin is about
what a person is. Let me make one point of clarification though. There are actions that can be done
that are called sins, but I am referring to sin itself, as a principle.
Under the law covenant, there was the sacrifice for sin, and the sacrifice for trespasses. While they
seemed to be the same, they were not. Sins and trespasses are basically the same, but sin is not the
same as either of them. Sin is the root law or principle, or state of existence, behind those acts that
are called sins or trespasses.
With that in mind, here is what scripture says about the relationship between sin and our flesh, which
needed to be dealt with by the sacrifice for sin. Paul described it this way:
Rom 7:17,18 So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. For I know that in me,
that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing.
All who have ever lived have lived in sinful flesh, flesh in which sin dwells. It is not alive however,
until the law brings sin and temptation together in intercourse thus birthing the act of sin. This state
of existence included Jesus himself, for it is said of him:
Rom 8:3 For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his
own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin...
2 Corinthians 5:21 For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we
might become the righteousness of God.
The reason Jesus is said to have dwelt in the likeness of sinful flesh, is because he never sinned.
Because of that, he knew no sin. Yet, he was made to be sin for us. Why? Because by him being born
of a woman, under law, and thus being shaped in iniquity, conceived in sin, thus dwelling in a sinful
body, he could then condemn that sin by never giving into its desires. He lived under the law, which
gave sin power in his body. The law brought the sin in his members and the temptations he faced
together, but he never allowed the two to consummate. He was kept by the power of his Father
dwelling in him so that sin never got one chance to be birthed in him. By him going all the way to his
physical death without sinning, he was able to condemn sin in that very body of sin he lived in. In
other words, he found sin guilty of killing an innocent man, one who had never sinned!
This may sound like blasphemy to speak of Jesus actually having sin in his body, but the problem is
in identifying what one has with who they are. Dwelling in sinful bodies, being born in sin, does not
make us sinners, any more than me, wearing a police uniform, makes me a police officer.
Living in bodies with sin in its members merely sets up impossible odds for anyone who is empty of
Life, the Life of the one who made us to dwell in. Like Paul, we were all "alive apart from the law
once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and [we] died." Rom 7:9
Now though, we are apart from law, dead to it, so that, filled with the fullness of God in Christ, we
are alive, never to die. This all came about because Christ took that sinful body of his outside the
camp, in which dwelt the beginning of that new creation of which we are a part of, and sacrificed it,
and us in him, as sin. That body of sin is no more. His body is now one of immortality, glory, power,
and spiritual. Nowhere in scripture is it said that Christ was our trespass offering. Rather, he is only
spoken of as our sin offering. Here is one such instance:
Heb 13:11,12 For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high
Priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside of the camp. Therefore, Jesus also, that he might
sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered outside of the gate. This is a direct fulfillment
of the type, spoken of here:
Lev 4:21 He shall carry forth the bull outside the camp, and burn it as he burned the first bull. It is
the sin offering for the assembly. The reason it was to be outside the camp was because it was a
repulsive sacrifice, unlike some of the others, such as a simple burnt offering given on occasion which
were sweet smelling sacrifices to him. The offering for sin symbolized the rejection of that sin on the
one bearing the sin. Sin was thus condemned and consumed.
Why is this distinction important? Christ could not be a sacrifice of trespasses because he never
sinned. He did however dwell in a body of sin, which is why he could be our sacrifice for sin.
How then were our trespasses dealt with? He dealt with the root, the source, sin itself, which dwells
in our bodies. He destroyed sin's power by killing us so that rather than being dead in sins, we are
now dead to sin. Every act that could flow out of that root has been dealt with totally, with finality.
Paul speaks about it this way: Rom 4:25 who was delivered up through our trespasses, and was
raised for our justification.

45
Notice that he was not delivered up for his own trespasses, but ours. Nowhere does scripture say he
was made to be a transgressor. He could not be, for he never sinned. He is spoken of as being made
sin however. This, as I have shared above, was the condition he was born in, although most confuse
the issue by saying he was made sin only on the cross. Not so. They are confusing the difference
between sin and trespass. Our trespasses, our acts of sin, were borne by him on the cross. This is
how he dealt with what we do. But he went further than that, for trespasses and sins are merely the
symptom of a greater problem, sin itself. Therefore, he himself was made sin when he was conceived
in his mother’s womb "brought forth in iniquity. In sin [his] mother conceived me.
Ps 51:5 It was in this state of who he was that he dealt with who we were, for we, in him, died that
day with him and thus all of the old Adam died that day, and sin itself dealt with.
We today, who have Christ in us, are in the same place Christ was while he was on earth, as Paul said
in Rom 8:10 If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because
of righteousness.
That is reality. His body was subject to the same frailty, futility, and decay that ours is. As a flesh and
blood human, he could not, in that state, inherit the kingdom of God any more than we can in ours.
He is no longer in such a body, having put on the dwelling of God himself after his body was raised
from the dead.
The truth of the matter is, nothing good dwells in our fleshly body. It is indeed dead because of sin.
Sin dwells there, dead though it may be, being separated from law. This is why we do not evaluate
anyone according to the flesh, nor do we judge based on the flesh, that which is outward. It is a
bogus evaluation because it is based on who we used to be. And by the way, when I say anyone, I
am speaking of everyone you come into contact with, not just believers. God is at peace, and
conciliated with every person, whether they believe it or not.
That is also why we do not find our identity in the flesh. Please understand that neither did Christ
when he was on earth. He always identified himself with reality, who he truly was, as the joining of
God and man together. That is God's calling for us as well, to speak of what is true with ourselves
and each other. Not only that, but we also do not evaluate Christ by his flesh either. We often fail to
think of that, but it is what Paul said. Gone are the days of looking at the gospels and making
judgments about our Lord based on his human life in the flesh. He is who he is now, and that is how
we see him and relate to him. In saying "It is finished," he truly could say that, having condemned
sin itself, and all which spring from its law, in his body.
Thus, we all died to both sin AND transgression, which we were in at one time, freed to be placed in
another, namely, Christ.
14. So, the armed men left the captives and the spoils before the princes, and all-of
the congregation.
15. And the men awhich were expressed by name, rose up, and took the captives, and
with the spoil, clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and
shod them, and bgave them to eat and drink, and anointed them, and carried all-
of the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, cthe city of the
palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria. [And still king Ahaz
has not learnt his lesson! He makes all-of these decisions, without any counsel to
God, for his guidance and/or direction.]
16. And dat that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
17. For again the Edomites had come up again and smitten Judah and carried away
e
captives.
18. The Philistines had also invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of
Judah, and had taken Beth-Shemoth, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shochu, with
the villages thereof, and Timnah, with the villages thereof, Gimzo with the villages
thereof; and they dwelt there. [Now you have heathen worshippers living inside of
Judah.]
19. For the LORD brought Judah low, because of Ahaz king of fIsrael; for he made
Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.

22. And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this is
THAT king Ahaz.
23. For che sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said;
“Because, the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore I will sacrifice to
them, dthat they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and all-of Israel.
24. And Ahaz gathered together all-of the vessels of the House of God, and ecut in
pieces the vessels of the House of God, and shut up the doors of the house of
LORD God, and fhe made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem. [Now, do you
really think that God is going to bless him for doing this???]
25. And in every several city in Judah he made high places gto burn incense to other
gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.
26. hNow, the rest of his acts and all-of his ways, first and last, behold, they are written
in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27. And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem:
i
BUT they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah
his son reigned in his stead.

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE: HEZEKIAH’S EXHORTATION; GOD’S HOUSE

CLEANSED
1. Hezekiah jbegan to reign when he was twenty-five years old, and he reigned
Twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Abijah, the daughter
of Zechariah (the Prophet).
2. And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that
David his forefather had done.
3. He, in the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the
House of the LORD, and repaired them.
4. And he brought in the Priests and the Levites, and he gathered them together in
the eastern street,
5. And he said unto them, “Hear me, you Levites sanctify now yourselves, and
sanctify the House of the LORD God of your forefathers, and carry forth the
filthiness out of the holy place.
6. “For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the
LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned their faces away from the
habitation of the LORD, and kturned their backs (on Him).
7. “Also, they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have
not burned incense, nor offered burnt offerings, in the holy place unto the God of
Israel.
8. *** “Wherefore, the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He
has delivered them to ltrouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, as you see with
your own eyes.
9. “For, lo, mour fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters,

11. My sons, bbe not negligent: for the LORD has cchosen you to stand before Him, to

12. Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of
the sons of the Kohathites: and the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and
Azariah the son of Jehalelel: and the Gershonites; Joah the son of Zimmah, and

14. And of the sons of Heman; Jehiel, and Shimei; and of the sons of Jeduthun;
Shemaiah, and Uzziel.
15. And they gathered their brethren, and esanctified themselves, and came,
according to the commandment of the king, fby the words of the LORD, gto cleanse
the House of the LORD.
16. And the Priests went into the inner part of the House of the LORD, to cleanse it,
and brought all-of the uncleanness that the found in the Temple of the LORD into
the court of the House of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad,
into the Brook Kidron.
17. Now, they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eight
day of the same month came they to the porch of the LORD: so, they sanctified
the House of the LORD in eight days: [8 means ~ a new beginning.] And on the
16th day of the first month, they made an end to purifying the Temple and the
Temple Grounds.
18. Then they went in to Hezekiah the King and said, “We have cleansed all-of the
House of the LORD, and the Altar of Burnt Offering, with all the vessels thereof,
and the Showbread Table, with all the vessels thereof.
19. “Moreover, all the vessels, which king Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his
transgression, have we prepared and sanctified, and, behold, they are before the
Altar of the LORD.”
20. Then Hezekiah the king rose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went
up to the House of the LORD.
21. And they brought hseven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven
male goats, for a isin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for
Judah. And he commanded the Priests, the sons of Aaron, to offer them on the
Altar of the LORD.
22. So, they killed the bullocks, and the Priests received the blood, and jsprinkled it on
the altar: likewise, when they killed the rams, they sprinkled the blood on the altar,
they killed also the lambs, and they sprinkled the blood upon the altar.
23. And they brought kforth the male goats for the sin offering before the king, and
the congregation, and they llaid their hands on them.
24. And the Priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the
altar, mto make an atonement for all-of Israel: for the king commanded that the
burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all-of Israel.

26. And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the Priests with the

27. And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar. And dwhen
the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD also began with the trumpets, and

with the instruments ordained by David king of Israel.
28. And all-of the congregation worshipped, and the fsingers sang, and the trumpeters

29. And when they had made an end of offering, the king and all that were present
bowed themselves, and worshipped.

seventy (70) bullocks, one hundred (100) rams, and two hundred (200) lambs: all
these were for a burnt offering to the LORD.
33. And the consecrated things were six hundred (600) oxen, and three thousand
(3,000) sheep.
34. But the Priests were too few, so that they could not flay all-of the burnt offerings:
Wherefore, their brethren the Levites, did help them, until the work was ended,
and until the other Priests had sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more
upright in their hearts to sanctify themselves than the Priests. [Sadly, nothing has
changed. Many times, it is the “helpers in the church” that are more switched on
to God than the pastors. That has to change [IF] the church is to become holy;
[THEN] (and only then) will the church be acceptable as the Bride of Christ.]
35. Also, the burnt offerings were in abundance, with ithe fat of the peace offerings,
and the jdrink offerings, for every burnt offering. So, the service of the House of
the LORD was set in order.
36. And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all-of the people, that God had prepared the people:
for the thing was done suddenly.
CHAPTER THIRTY: HEZEKIAH PROCLAIMS A SOLEMN PASSOVER
1. And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and
Manasseh, that they should come to the House of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep
the Passover unto the LORD God of Israel.
2. For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all-of the congregation is
Jerusalem, to keep the Passover, in the ksecond month. [The Temple is cleansed
in the 1st month of his reign, and the Passover is to take place in the 2nd month of
his reign. He is starting off his reign, focussed on getting the nation back before
the LORD God of Israel, as soon as possible. This is a good thing!]

3. For they could not keep it (in the a1st month) because all-of the Priests had not
sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had to the people gathered themselves
together at Jerusalem.
4. And the thing bpleased the king and all-of the congregation.
5. So, they established a decree to make a proclamation throughout all-of Israel,
c
from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should all come to keep the Passover unto
the Lord God of Israel: for they had not done it for a long time, in such sort as it
was written.
6. So, dthe posts went with the letters, efrom the king and his princes, throughout all-
of Israel and Judah, and according to the command of the king, saying, “You
children of Israel, fturn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
(Israel), and He will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand
of gthe kings of Assyria.
7. *** And be not like your fathers, and like your brethren, which trespassed against
the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore, gave them up to desolation, as you
see.
8. Now, hbe you not stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourself unto the
LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified for ever: and serve
the LORD your God, ithat the fierceness of His anger may turn away from you.
9. [CP] For [IF] you turn again unto the LORD, [THEN] your brethren and your
children shall find jcompassion before them that lead them captive, so that they
shall come again into this land; for the LORD your God is kgracious and merciful,
and will not turn away His face from you, [IF] you return unto Him.
10. So, the posts passed from city to city, through the country of lEphraim and
Manasseh even unto Zebulun: but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them.
11. Nevertheless, divers (several) of the people from Asher and Manasseh and Zebulun
humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.
12. Also in Judah, the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment
of the king, and of the princes, by the Word of the LORD.
13. And there assembled at Jerusalem many people to keep the feast of unleavened
bread in the msecond month, a very great congregation.
14. And they arose and took away all-of the naltars (to other gods) that were in
Jerusalem, and all-of the altars for incense they took away, and cast them into the
Brook Kidron.
15. Then they killed the Passover Lamb, on the 14th day of the second month (as was
commanded by God to Moses): and the Priests and the Levites owere ashamed,
and sanctified themselves, and brought in the burnt offerings into the House of the
LORD.
16. And they stood in ptheir place, after the manner, according to the law of Moses the
man of God: The Priests sprinkled the blood, which they received of the hand of
the Levites.
17. *** For there were many in the congregation that were not sanctified: therefore,
the Levites had the charge of the killing of the Passovers for every one that was
not clean, to sanctify them unto the LORD.
18. For a multitude of the people, even qmany of Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar,
and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the Passover

otherwise than ait was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, sating, “The LORD

19. “That prepares his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, though he not
be cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary.”
20. And the LORD harkened unto Hezekiah, and healed the people.
21. And the children of Israel that were bpresent at Jerusalem kept the feast of
unleavened bread for cseven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the
Priests praised the LORD, day by day, singing with dloud instruments, unto the
LORD.
22. And Hezekiah spoke ecomfortably unto all-of the Levites fthat taught the good
knowledge of the LORD: and they did eat throughout the feast seven days, offering
peace offerings, and gmaking confessions to the LORD God of their fathers.
23. And the whole assembly took counsel to keep hanother seven days, and they kept
another seven days with gladness.
24. For Hezekiah king of Judah idid give to the congregation one thousand (1,000)
bullocks, and seven thousand (7,000) sheep; and the princes igave to the
congregation one thousand (1,000) bullocks and ten thousand (10,000) sheep:
and a great number of Priests jsanctified themselves.
25. And all-of the congregation of Judah, with the Priests and the Levites, and all-of
the congregation kthat came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the
land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.
26. So, there was joy in Jerusalem: for lsince the time of Solomon the son of David
king of Israel, there was not like this in Jerusalem.
27. Then the Priests and the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was
heard, and their prayer came up to the holy dwelling place, even unto heaven.
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE: THE PEOPLES’ OFFERINGS TO TITHE OFFICERS
1. Now when all-of the celebrations for Passover were finished, all-of Israel that were
m
present went out to the cities of Judah, and nbroke down the oimages in pieces,
and cut down the tree groves, and threw down the high places, and the altars (to
other gods) out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim, and also in Manasseh, puntil
they had utterly destroyed them all. Then all-of the children of Israel returned,
every man to his possession, into their own cities. [Now, just imagine [IF] the
leader of your country, called a solemn assembly, cleansed the Temple, called a
National Passover Feast, and then the people went out and removed all-of the false
gods that are worshipped in all-of the cities, including abortion centres, where
babies are murdered and offered up to the god of Molech, and all other forms of
behaviour which is contrary to the Word of God, and [THEN] the national leader
then prayed a Prayer of Repentance over the whole nation, and the Religious
leaders then blessed the people. Do you think it would change the nation? It did
for Israel ~ so it could for your nation as well.]
2. Then Hezekiah appointed qthe courses of the Priests and the Levites after their
courses, every man according to his service, the Priests and the Levites rfor burnt
offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give thanks, and to praise in
the gates of the tents of the LORD.
3. He also appointed the king’s portion of his substance: for the burnt offerings, to
wit, for the smorning and evening burnt offerings, and for the burnt offerings on

4. Moreover, he commanded the people that dwell in Jerusalem to give the dportion
of the Priests and the Levites, that they might be eencouraged in the law of the
LORD.
5. And as soon as the commandment was fbroadcast aboard, the children of Israel
brought in an abundance, the first fruits of corn, wine, oil, and ghoney, and all-of
the increase of the fields: and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.
6. And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah,
they also brought in the tithe of the oxen and sheep, and the htithe of the holy
thing, which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them, iby heaps.
7. In the 3rd month they began to lay the foundation of the heaps, and finished them
in the 7th month.
8. Ans Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD
and His people Israel.
9. Then Hezekiah questioned with the Priests and the Levites concerning the heaps.
10. And Azariah, the chief Priest of the House of Zadok answered him, and said, “Since
the people began to bring the offerings into the House of the Lord, we have had
enough to eat, and have left plenty; for the LORD has blessed his people; and that
which is left is a great store.”
11. Then Hezekiah commanded to prepared jchambers in the house of the LORD; and
they prepared them.
12. And brought in the offerings and the tithes, and the dedicated things faithfully:
k
over which Cononiah the Levite was ruler; and Shemei his brother was next.
13. And Jehiel, and Azariah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and
Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers, lunder the hand
of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the command of Hezekiah the king, and
Azariah the ruler of the House of God.
14. And Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, the porter towards the east, was over the
free will offerings of God, to distribute the oblations of the LORD, and the most
holy things.
15. And mnext to him were Eden, and Miniam and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, Amariah,
and Shecaniah, in nthe cities of the Priests, in their oset office, to give to their
brethren by courses, as well to the great as to the small.

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO: SENNACHERIB’S INVASION

[Now the account in the chapter is very similar to what is happening in Israel/Gaza now
with HAMAS. They came and laid siege to Israel, big mouthing their superiority, and bad
mouthing the God of Israel, and the rulers of Israel. And God then brought down HIS
judgement upon them.]

1. After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria
came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and
thought bto win them for himself.
2. And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to
fight against Jerusalem.
3. He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the
fountains which were outside the city: and they did help him.
4. So, there were gathered much people together, who stopped all-of the fountains,
and the brook that cran through the midst of the land, saying, “Why should the
king of Assyria come and find much water?”
5. Also, he strengthened himself, and built up the wall that was broken, and raised it
up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David,
and made darts and shields in abundance.
6. And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together with him
in the street of the gate of the city, and dspoke comfortably to them saying,
7. “eBe strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria,
nor for all-of the multitude that is with him: for fthere is more with us than is with
him:
8. “With him there is an garm of flesh; BUT hwith us, is the LORD our God, to help us,
and to fight our battles. And the people irested themselves upon the words of
Hezekiah king of Judah.”
9. j
After this, (after the events described above), did Sennacherib king of Assyria
send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege to Lachish, and all-of his
k
power with him), unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at
Jerusalem, saying,
10. “Thus says Sennacherib, king of Assyria; Whereon do you trust, that you abide in
the siege in Jerusalem?
11. “Does not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by
thirst, saying, ‘The Lord our God shall deliver us out of the hands of the king of
Assyria’?
12. “lHas not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars (to other
gods) and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying ‘You shall worship before one
altar, and burn incense upon it?
13. “Know you not what I and my fathers have done unto all-of the people of other
lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands able to deliver their lands out
of my hand?

14. “aWho was there among all-of the gods of those nations that my father’s utterly
destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that YOUR GOD should be
able to deliver you out of my hand? [Sennacherib was taunting the people, but in
reality, he was mocking the God of Israel, stating that He was not able to save
Israel from his army. When you mock the God of Israel, you can be certainly sure
that there will be Godly response!]
15. ***[CP] “Now therefore, let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this
matter, neither yet believe him: [IF] no god of any nation or kingdom was able to
deliver his people out of my hand, [THEN] how much less shall your God deliver
you out of my hand?” [So, Sennacherib has publicly laid out the challenge to the
God of Israel. No god has been able to save the people from my armies, and the
God of Israel is no stronger than the other gods.]
16. And bhis servants spoke more against the LORD God, and against His servant
Hezekiah.
17. He wrote also cletters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against Him,
saying; “As the Gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered the people
out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my
hand.”
18. Then they dcried with a loud voice in the Hebrew language, unto the people of
Jerusalem that were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them: that they
might take the city.
19. And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of
the earth, which were the works of the hands of man.
20. And for this cause, eHezekiah the king, and fthe prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz,
prayed, and cried out to heaven.
21. gAnd the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all-of the mighty men of valour, and
the leaders and the captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So, he returned
with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his
god, they that came forth from his own bowels (his own children), slew him there
with the sword. [That is what happens to leaders who mock the God and nation of
Israel.]
22. Thus, the LORD saved Hezekiah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, from the hand
of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of other, and guided them
on every side.
23. And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and hpresents to Hezekiah
king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from henceforth.
24. iIn those days, Hezekiah was sick unto death, and prayed unto the LORD; and He
spoke to him, and jgave him ka sign.
25. *** But Hezekiah lrendered not again according to the benefit done unto him:
therefore, there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem. [So, even
after being healed of a deadly illness, Hezekiah did not go back to his position of
being wholly committed to the LORD God of Israel.]
26. Notwithstanding, Hezekiah humbled himself for the mpride in his heart, both he
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon
them in the days of Hezekiah.
27. And Hezekiah has exceedingly much riches and honour; and he made himself

This same Hezekiah, also stopped the upper water-course of the bGihon, and
brought it straight down to the west-side of the city of David. And Hezekiah
prospered in all-of his works.
31. Howbeit, in the business of the cambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent
unto him to inquire of the dwonder that was done in the land, God left him, eto test
him, to know all that was in his heart.
32. Now, the rest of the acts Hezekiah, and his fgoodness, behold, they are written in
g
the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of
Judah and Israel.
33. And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest, of the
sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem
did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE: MANASSEH’S IDOLATRY & REPENTANCE

Sin is inherent in each person, it is in each person’s DNA, and we have a choice to resist
it, or to allow it to take control of our lives. Here we have the direct contrast between
Hezekiah, a righteous father, and Manasseh, the rebellious son. Hezekiah removed all-
of the idols and places in the kingdom to worship other gods and bring the nation back
to worship the LORD God of Israel, and his son Manasseh who does the opposite.

1. Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five
years in Jerusalem:
2. But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations
of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel entered
the land.
3. For hhe built again the high places, which Hezekiah his father had broken down,
and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all-of the
hosts of heaven, (the sun, the moon, and the stars), and served them. [He was
worshipping creation, NOT the Creator.]
4. Also, he built altars in the House of the LORD, whereof the LORD said, “In
Jerusalem shall My name be for ever.” [So now Manasseh has broken the first
two of the 10 commandments in front of the whole kingdom. You shall have no
other gods before me, and you shall not bow down to any other gods. So, his evil
is getting worse.]
5. And he built altars for all-of the host of heaven in the two courts of the House of
the LORD.
6. And he caused his children to pass through the fire iin the valley of Hinnom: also,
he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with
familiar spirits, and with wizards; he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD,
to provoke Him to anger. [As in the days of Noah, so it shall be in the last days;
Do you see the similarity with the world we live in today? All-of this evil is now
prevalent in our world today, and it provokes the LORD to anger.]
7. And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the House of God in
which God had said to David and Solomon his son, “In this house, and in
Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all-of the tribes of Israel, will I put My
name for ever;

8. “Neither will I any more remove the foot from out of the land, which I have
appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have
commanded them, according to the WHOLE LAW and the statutes, and the
ordinances, by the hand of Moses.”
9. So, Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, (to sin) even
worse that the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of
Israel. [So, now Manasseh has defiled the Temple of the Lord, and the two courts
of the Lord, and has committed grave sins before God, by leading Judah away
from the LORD. The heathen had sinned because they did not know about the
LORD God of Israel, but all-of Israel knew about the LORD God of Israel, and had
sanctified themselves and returned to him under the reign of Hezekiah his father.
Now, their sins were worse than that of the heathen, which God Almighty had
destroyed, to prepare a place for His chosen people, Israel. So, God has to act!]
10. And the LORD spoke to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not listen!
11. *** Therefore, athe LORD brought upon them the captains of the host bof the
kings of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with
c
fetters, and carried him to Babylon.
12. And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled
himself greatly before the God of his fathers,
13. And prayed unto him: and He was intreated of him: and heard his supplication,
and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. THEN Manasseh knew
(without any doubt) that the LORD He was God. [Here we have an amazing series
of scriptures. Manasseh had sinned greatly, and has caused the kingdom of Judah
to sin greatly, but God is always listening for people who are prepared to
acknowledge their sins, humble themselves, repent, and pray for forgiveness.
And it says that God heard his prayers and brought him back to Jerusalem. It
does not record how he came back; but Manasseh now knows without any doubt,
that the LORD God of Israel, He IS God! So, from this example, we can realise
that no matter how sinful we are, God is always ready to forgive a repentant
sinner.]
14. Now after this, he built a wall outside the City of David, on the west side of
d
Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in of the eFish Gate, and compassed
about fOphel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all-
of the fenced cities of Judah.
15. And he took away the gstrange gods, and the hidols out of the House of the LORD,
and all-of the altars that he had built in the mount of the House of the LORD, and
in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.
16. And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and
thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel.
17. Nevertheless (he did not destroy the high places) and the people did sacrifice still
in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.
18. Now, the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer, and the words of the seer,
that spoke to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written
in the Book of the Kings of Israel.
19. His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his
trespass (again the distinction between sin and trespass), and the places wherein
he built high places, and set up groves, and graven images, before he was
humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.

among the sepulchres of the kings in the city of David): and Amon his son reigned
in his stead.
21. b
Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for only
two years in Jerusalem.
22. But he did that which as evil in the sight of the LORD, as did Manasseh his father;
for Amon sacrificed unto all-of cthe carved images which Manasseh has made
(and cast out of the city ~ but did not destroy) and Amon served them.
23. And humbled not himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled
himself: but Amon trespassed more and more.
24. And his own servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.
25. But the people of the land slew all-of them that had conspired against king Amon:
and the people of the land made Josiah, he son king in his stead.
CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR: JOSIAH’S GOOD REIGN: THE BOOK OF THE LAW
FOUND:
1. Josaiah dwas just eight years old, when he began to reign, and he reigned in
Jerusalem for thirty-one years.
2. And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways
of David his forefathers, and declined neither to the left nor to the right.
3. For in the 8th year of his reign (when he was just 16 years old) he began to seek
after the God of David his forefather: and in the 12th year (when he was 20 years
old), he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem efrom the high places, and the
groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
4. f
And they broke down the altars of Baalim in his presence, and the gimages, that
were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves and the carved images,
and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strowed
it (sprinkled it); upon the graves of them that had sacrificed to them.
5. And he hburnt the bones of the priests upon their own altars, and cleansed Judah
and Jerusalem.
6. And so did he in the cities of iManasseh and of Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto
Naphtali with their jmattocks round about.
7. And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and have kbeaten the
graven images into powder, and cut down all-of the idols all-of the land of Israel,
he returned to Jerusalem.
8. Now, in the 18th year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house,
he sent lShaphan the son of Azaliah, and mMaaseiah the governor of the city, and
Joah the son of Joahaz, nthe recorder, to repair the House of the LORD his God.
9. And when they came to oHilkiah, the High Priest, they delivered the money that
was brought into the House of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had
gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all-of the remnant of Israel,
and of all Judah, and Benjamin: and they returned to Jerusalem.
10. And they put it into the hand of the workmen, that had the oversight of the House,
of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the House of the
LORD, to repair and amend the House.
11. Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for
couplings, and to floor the houses, which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

officers, and porters.
The Book of the Laws of Moses is Found
14. And when they brought out the money that was brought into the House of
the LORD, Hilkiah the Priest, found a Book of the Law of the LORD, given
by Moses.
15. And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of
the Law in the House of the LORD.” And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
[This was a precious treasure that had been found.]
16. And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again
saying, “All that was committed bto thy servants, they do it.”
17. “And they have cgathered together the money that was found in the House of the
LORD, and have delivered it into the hands of the overseers, and to the hands of
the workmen.
18. Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the Priest has given me a
book. And Shaphan read dit before the king.
19. And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the Law, that he rent
his clothes. [For 28 years Josiah had been going to the Temple to hear the Priests
give their messages, but now He rents His clothes because He has now heard a
message which makes Him realise that the nation has grossly trespassed against
the LORD. I wonder how many years pastors have been preaching non-challenging
messages in their churches, which makes no difference to the spiritual growth of
the congregations they are called to steward? I wonder when was the last time
that your pastor obeyed Revelation 1:3? Yes! Blessed is the pastor who reads this
book to his congregation; and blessed are the congregation members who hear
the word, and does it!]
20. And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon,
the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, a servant of the king,
saying,
21. “Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah,
concerning the words of this book, that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD
which is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the Word of the
LORD, to do all that is written in this book.
22. And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah, the Prophetess,
the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of eHasrah (Harhas), keeper of the
f
wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem, in the college:) and they spoke to her to
that effect, (as requested by the king.) [Notice that the King and the High Priest
and the congregation, did not have any trouble going to hear a “lady prophet” ~
one of the 5-fold offices given by God to His chosen people, to consult with God,
on behalf of His people. I wonder why pastors and church leaders have so much
trouble with it today?]

Therefore, my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be

grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all-of the evil that I will bring upon this
place, and upon the inhabitants of the same.” So, they brought the king word
again.
29. aThen the king sent and gathered together all-of the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30. And the king went up into the House of the LORD, and all-of the men of Judah,
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the Priests, and the Levites, and all-of the
people; both bgreat and small; and he read in their ears (in their hearing), all-of
the words of the book of the covenant, that was found in the House of the LORD.
31. And the king cstood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk
after the LORD, and to keep His commandments, and His testimonies, and His
statutes, with all-of his heart, and with all-of his soul, to perform the words of the
covenant, which are written in this book.
32. And He caused all the were dpresent in Jerusalem and Benjamin, to stand eto it.
And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of
the fathers.
33. And Josiah took away all-of the abominations out of all-of the countries that
pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were dpresent in Israel to
serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all-of his days they departed not
f
from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE: JOSIAH KEEPS A SOLEMN PASSOVER

Now, King Josiah knows that God is going to punish Judah and Israel for the great
trespasses against Him; but he also knows that God hears the prayers of a repentant
heart, so by getting the nation to repent and turn back to God, He may be merciful in
the amount of punishment that the nation receives.
1. Moreover, gJosiah kept a Passover unto the LORD in Jerusalem; And they killed the
Passover on the 14th day of the 1st month (the 14th day of Nisan, as per the
instructions given by God to Moses in Egypt).
2. And he set the Priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the
House of the LORD.
3. And said unto the Levites, hthat taught all-of Isael, which were holy unto the LORD;
“Put the holy Ark in the House which Solomon the son of David king of Israel did
build: it shall not be a burden upon your shoulders; serve now the LORD your God,
and His people Israel. [The Ark of the Covenant was not in the Temple up until this

time, but had been hidden from the Assyrians and the Babylonians. It may come
as a shock to some people, but the Priest, ministered “unto God”, but it was the
Levites, “who taught the people”.]
4. “And prepare yourselves aby the houses of your fathers, after your courses,
according to the writings of David king of Israel, and according to the bwriting of
Solomon his son.
5. “And stand in the holy place, according to the divisions of cthe families of the
fathers of your brethren dthe people, and after the division of the families of the
Levites.
6. “So, kill the Passover (Lamb), and esanctify yourselves, and prepare your brethren,
that they may do according to the Word of the LORD, by the hand of Moses.”
7. And Josiah fgave to the people, of the flocks, lambs and kids, all for the Passover
offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand (30,000)
sheep and three thousand (3,000) bullocks, these were of the king’s substance.
8. And his princes fgave willingly unto the people, to the Priests, and to the Levites:
g
Hilkiah and hZechariah, and Jehiel, rulers of the House of God, gave unto the
Priests for the Passover offerings of 2,600 small cattle, and 300 oxen.
9. i
Conaniah also, and Shemaiah, and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah, and
Jeiel, and Jozabad, chief of the Levites, fgave unto the Levites for Passover
offerings 5,000 small cattle, and 500 oxen.
10. So, the service was prepared, and the Priests, jstood in their places, and the Levites
in their courses, according to the King’s commandment.
11. And they killed the Passover, and the Priests sprinkled the blood, from their hands,
and the Levites flayed them.
12. And they removed the burnt offerings, that they might give according to the
divisions of the families of the people, to offer unto the LORD, as it is written in
the book of Moses. And so did they with the oxen.
13. And they kroasted the Passover over with fire, according to the ordinance: but the
other holy offerings, sod they in pots, and in cauldrons, and in pans, and ldivided
them speedily among all-of the people.
14. *** And afterwards, they made ready for themselves, and for the Priests: because
the Priests were busied in offering the burnt offerings and the fat until night:
therefore, the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the Priests, the sons of
Aaron.
15. And the singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their mplaces, according to the
commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer:
and the porters waited at every gate; they might not leave their service; for their
brethren, the Levites, prepared for them. [So, all-of the people assigned to work
in the Temple, to perform the Passover sacrifices, and the gatekeepers, worked all
day from sunrise until sunset, cooking food, but without eating it themselves, until
all of the people who came to the Temple were given the Passover portion. Only
then, were they allowed to eat their Passover themselves. That is what “Godly
service” is all about. If you want to be great in God’s kingdom, LEARN to be a
servant of all.]
16. So, all of the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the
Passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the
commandment of King Josiah.
17. And the children of Israel that were npresent, kept the Passover at that time, and
the feast of ounleavened bread for seven days.

18. And there was no Passover like to that kept in Israel, from the days of aSamuel
the prophet; neither did all-of the kings of Israel keep such a Passover as Josiah
kept, and the Priests and the Levites, and all-of Judah and Israel that were
b
present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
19. In the 18th year of the reign of Josiah was this Passover kept.
20. cAfter all-of this, when Josiah had prepared the dTemple, Necho, the king of Egypt
came up to fight against eCarchemish by the River Euphrates: and Josiah went out
against him. [Back in this time, the eastern border of Israel was on the “biblical
border of Israel” (the Euphrates), not its present border ~ the river Jordan. See
how much land Israel has lost because of its disobedience to God’s Laws.]
21. But he sent ambassadors to him saying, “What have to do with you, king of Judah?
I come not against you this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for
God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee (step back) and stop meddling
with God, who is with me, that He destroy you not. [Here Josiah steps out of
character. He has always checked what God wants, inquires of Him. Here Josiah is
even warned that God is sending Egypt into this battle at Carchemish for God’s
purpose, so stay out of the way, so that God does not kill you: But he ignores the
warning and suffers the consequences of his actions. We have to be very sensitive
when the Holy Spirit speaks to us, in these last days, to determine whether this is
our fight, or we are to stay on the sidelines, as a spectator, and watch the glory
of the Lord being fulfilled.]
22. Nevertheless, Josiah would not turn his face away from him, but disguised himself,
that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho, from
the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo. [Many Christians
have trouble believing that God can speak through the mouth of an unbeliever, a
heathen, but there are several places in scripture where this happens; God can
even speak through a donkey ~ if He chooses; because He created all things.]
23. And the archers shot at king Josiah (even though he was disguised): and the king
said to his servants, “Have me away from here, for I am sorely fwounded.”
24. *** His servants therefore, took him out of that chariot, and put him in a second
chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was
buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all-of Judah and Jerusalem
g
mourned for Josiah.
25. And Jeremiah hlamented for Josiah: and all-of ithe singing men and singing women
spoke of Josiah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in
Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.
26. Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and his jgoodness, according to that which was
written in the law of the LORD.
27. And his deeds first and last, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and
Judah.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX: JEHOAHAZ & JEHOIAKIM; JERUSALEM DESTROYED

As an introduction to this chapter, which is the fulfilment of many prophetic promises, I
wish to draw people’s attention to several historical things.
No-one disputes that the land of Egypt belongs to the Egyptians, nor that the Hebrews
were slaves in Egypt, and that God Almighty, brought them out of Egypt with signs and
wonders, parting the Red Sea, so that they could walk across on dry land, and drowning
the Egyptian Army who followed them.

No-one disputes that the nation of Israel wandered in the desert for forty years, because
of their disobedience, by making a golden calf and worshipping other gods.
No-one disputes that God sent Joshua to lead the Hebrew nation, to fight against the
heathens, and to kill them, and/or drive them off the land, which God had already
promised to Abraham, as the “Promised Land” ~ “ISRAEL”.
There is over three thousand years of history to back up and verify these claims. Right
throughout history, there have been wars and rumours of wars, and God has raised up
prophets, to speak and warn the people, and hundreds of times those prophecies have
been fulfilled, and no-one has ever doubted these claims.
Jeremiah the Prophet was commanded by God to go onto the steps of the Temple each
day, and proclaim that [IF] the people did not repent of their sins and turn back to God,
[THEN] God would destroy the Temple and Jerusalem, and carry the people away
captive to a distant land, a land where they did not understand the language.
They would remain in captivity there for 70 years, and then a remnant would return to
their homeland once more. God promised to take them away for their land, BUT He
did not promise to take the Land away from them. They were promised that a remnant
would return there, to rebuild the Temple and rebuild the city.
ALL-OF these prophecies came to pass, just as was promised! Even the Promise
that Israel would be reborn again in one day! This took place on 14th May 1948.
Why do I make this introduction before this last chapter in the book of the Chronicles
of the Kings of Israel and Judah, because all-of these prophecies have ALSO COME
TRUE! Now some prophecies about Gaza!
• Amos (1:6-8) predicted that a divine fire would consume Gaza’s walls.
• Zephaniah (2:1-4) warned that Gaza would be deserted “on the day of God’s
anger”.
• Jeremiah (25:15-20, 27-29) promised a sword, later specifying Pharaoh’s
armies (47:1-5).
• Zechariah (9:5) prophesied that Gaza would tremble in fear and be
rendered bereft of its rulers.
Some of these prophecies have already come true, others are still to come to pass. If
you study the scriptures, from Genesis to Revelation, there are references to the land
of the Philistines (Philistia), but there is no reference to the land of Palestine.
Because of this truth, the land of Palestine does not exist! Nations today, who are
supporting terrorists, and their claim for this “fictional land,” are saying that God
Almighty is a liar. People and nations that have said that in the past, suffered
punishment for their mistakes! May these punishments not befall your nation!

1. Then athe people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king
in his father’s stead in Jerusalem.
2. Jehoahaz was 23 years old when he began to reign and he reigned for only three
months in Jerusalem.
3. And the king of Egypt bput him down (removed him) at Jerusalem, and condemned
the land in one hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold.
4. And the king of Egypt made Eliakim, Jehoahaz’s brother, king of Judah and
Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Necho (king of Egypt) took
Jehoahaz his brother, and carried him away to Egypt.
5. c
Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for 11 years
in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God.
6. Against him came Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, (the servant raised up by
God to punish Israel) and bound him in fetters, to carry him off to Babylon.

a b
See verse 4; 2 Kings Removed him

62
7. Nebuchadnezzar also carried off the vessels of the House of the LORD to Babylon,
and put them in his temple at Babylon. [This was a blessing, because they were
protected there from looters, which would have taken place, if they had been left
in the temple in Jerusalem.]
8. Now, the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and his abominations which he did, and that
which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel
and Judah: and aJehoiachin, his son reigned in his stead. [Jehoiachin was also
called Jeconiah, or Coniah in other places in scripture – see the foot notes. So, this
is the first visit of Nebuchadnezzar to Jerusalem. He has taken the king and the
Temple vessels, but has not destroyed the temple, nor the city.]
9. b
Jehoiachin was 8 years old when he began to reign and he reigned for only 3
months and 10 days in Jerusalem: and he did that which was evil in the sight of
the LORD.
10. And cwhen the year was expired, dking Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to
Babylon, with the egoodly vessels of the House of the LORD, and made fZedekiah,
his (father’s) brother, king over Judah and Jerusalem.
11. g
Zedekiah was 21 years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 11 years in
Jerusalem.
12. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God, and humbled not
himself before hJeremiah the Prophet, speaking from the mouth of the LORD.
13. And he also rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar, iwho had made him swear by God:
but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto the LORD God
of Israel. [Here was Nebuchadnezzar, an unbelieving king, who is being used as a
servant of the most-High God, to get the king of Judah to turn back to the God of
Judah and Jerusalem, and he refuses. This was not going to end well for the king,
or for the people of Judah and Jerusalem.]
14. Moreover, all the chief of the Priests, and the people, transgressed very much after
all-of the abominations of the heathen: and pollutes the House of the LORD, which
He had hallowed in Jerusalem.
15. And the LORD God of their fathers (in His mercy), sent to them jby His messengers,
rising up kbetimes (carefully and continually), and sending; because He had
compassion on His people, and on His dwelling place:
16. BUT they mocked the messengers of God, and despised His words, and lmisused
his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was
no mremedy.
17. *** Therefore, He brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who nslew their
young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion
upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped of age: He gave them
all into his hand. [The atrocities against the people of Israel have happened
before.]
18. And oall-of the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of
the House of the LORD, and the treasures of the king, and of the princes: all-of
these were brought back to Babylon.
19. p
And they burnt the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and
burnt all-of the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all-of the goodly vessels
thereof. [This was exactly what Jeremiah the prophet had said on the steps of the

20. And athem that had escaped from the sword, he carried away to Babylon: where

they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia:
21. To fulfill the Word of the LORD, by the mouth of cJeremiah the prophet, until dthe
land had enjoyed her Sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate, eshe kept her
Sabbaths, to fulfil for 70 years.
CYRUS’ PROCLAMATION:
22. Now, in the first year of the reign of Cyrus, King of Persia, that the Word of the
LORD, spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred
up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all
of the kingdom, and put it in writing, saying,
23. “Thus says Cyrus, King of Persia, ‘All the kingdoms of the earth, has the LORD God
of Heaven given unto me: and He has charged me to build Him a House in
Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all His people? The LORD
be with him and let him go up’.”
CONCLUSION:
And we know from the other books of the minor Prophets, that Ezra was given charge
to take back some 50,000 Jews, back to their homeland (Israel) and to start to rebuild
the Temple in Jerusalem.
We also know that Nehemiah was sent there to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, which he
completed in 52 days and nights, and then went back to Babylon, only to be sent back
to Jerusalem as the Governor of the whole region, until after the Temple building was
restored.
Sadly the prophecies of Ezekiel were also fulfilled, by allowing the Temple Mount to be
captured and defiled, by building a temple to another god, beside the Temple of the
Lord God Almighty, separated by a brick wall. This actually happened. The Romans cast
down the Herodian Temple, but the Caliphate constructed the Al Aqsa Mosque, on the
Temple Mount, separated from the foundations of the Herodian Temple by a brick wall,
