Section A : General Comments

 High temperature working

It is suggested that, for temperatures above 350C, the following guidelines are adopted as good
working practice:

(i) Store unmixed materials in a cool (preferably temperature controlled) environment, avoiding
exposure to direct sunlight.
(ii) Keep equipment cool, arranging shade protection if necessary. It is especially important to
keep cool those surfaces of the equipment which will come into direct contact with the material
itself.
(iii) Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, arrange temporary shading as
necessary.
(iv) Make sufficient material, plant and labour available to ensure that application is a continuous
process.

 Equipment
It is suggested that the following list of equipment is adopted as a minimum requirement :

Protective clothing : Protective overalls

: Good quality gloves, and goggles

Preparation equipment : Wire brush

: Proprietary blasting equipment

Application equipment : Paint brush

 Application - points of note

Fosroc operates a policy to encourage the use, where possible, of approved or licensed applicators.
This ensures that repairs are completed satisfactorily so that the long-term performance of the
materials is assured. For contractors who wish to apply the materials themselves Fosroc is also able
to offer technical assistance and training, either on-site or at its Training Centre in Jeddah.

Section B : Application Method

1.0 Surface preparation

Attention to full and proper preparation of the substrate is essential for complete repair adhesion.

1.1 Fully expose any corroded reinforcement in the repair area and continue until uncorroded
steel is reached. It may be necessary to break out the concrete beyond the original repair
area in order to achieve this.

1.2 Fully clean the steel surfaces to remove laitence, the by-products of corrosion and other
contaminants and a proprietary blast media most effectively achieves this, although a wire
brush can also be used. The steel bars should be cleaned to a uniform bright condition, with
particular attention required to the rear face of the bars.

1.3 Chloride induced corrosion will further require high pressure washing with clean water after
blasting to ensure complete removal of the corrosive elements from pits and imperfections
within the surface of the steel.

2.0 Application

2.1 Nitoprime Zincrich should be applied to clean, dry steel as soon as possible after preparation
work has been completed, and always within 3 hours. If this is not possible, then it may be
necessary to prepare the steel once more in order to remove any oxidation products, which
would have gathered on the surface.

2.2 Although a single component material, it should be stirred thoroughly to redisperse any
settlement which might have occurred during transit to the repair location..

2.3 Apply one, full, unbroken coat to the steel surface using a suitably sized brush. Once again,
particular attention should be paid to the rear face of reinforcing bars, and a small brush is
generally more suitable for this purpose.

2.4 Allow to dry fully before continuing. If any doubt exists about achievement of an unbroken
coat, apply a second coat as soon as the first one has dried - generally between 30 minutes
and 1 hour.

2.5 The exposed surface should not remain exposed to the atmosphere for longer than necessary.

3.0 Cleaning

3.1 Nitoprime Zincrich can only be removed from tools and equipment using Fosroc Solvent 102.

Section C : Approval and variations

This method statement is offered by Fosroc as a ‘standard proposal’ for the application of Nitoprime
Zincrich. It remains the responsibility of the Engineer to determine the correct method for any given
application.

Where alternative methods are to be used, these must be submitted to Fosroc for approval, in
writing, prior to commencement of any work. Fosroc will not accept responsibility or liability for
variations to the above method statement under any other condition.

Nitocote EPU commercial port and the main port for pilgrims on their way
Nitoseal MS600 to the Holy cities of Makkah & Madinah. Hence, special
attention has been given to this port by the Saudi Ports
• Execution : to be commissioned by year Authority to modernize and upgrade the operational
Date 2010 efficiency to meet the increasing demands.

Project Task
The port was originally developed and expanded in 1976
to have 58 berths of international status in service. Since
then, these structures have been rehabilitated on various
occasions with traditional methods that were failed to
provide adequate solutions against the corrosion problem
of steel reinforcement caused by the aggressive salty
environment of the Red Sea.
Fosam (Saudi Fosroc) was exclusively invited to
understand the problem and provide a comprehensive
corrosion solution guaranteeing performance and
durability to the structures.

Constructive Solutions
Fosroc Corrosion Solutions (FCS) technology was
endorsed by the client as an adequate solution to mitigate
the corrosion issue. More than 16,000 units of
Galvashield® CC100 have been utilised as Corrosion
Control/Prevention system to provide long term protection
for steel reinforcement with 15 years designed service life.
High performance repair technologies that include
admixtures, grouts, primers, bonding agents, protective
coatings and sealants were adopted to commission the
rehabilitation works for an area more than 20,000m2.

Value to Client
FCS unique and high technology was the right solution for
the client in order to arrest corrosion potentials in such
aggressive environment and, in turns, eliminating the need
for frequent maintenance and repair projects.
The project was commissioned with no lost berthing time
during implementation
