Lesson Plan in Science 8

Judith J. Delizo
Sumile National High School

I. Objectives
A. Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of work using constant force, power,
gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy, and elastic potential energy.

B. Performance Standards:
The learners shall be able to develop a written plan and implement a “Newton’s
Olympics”.

C. Learning Competency and Code:

1. Describe how work is related to power and energy. (S8FE-Ic-21)

Quarter: 1 Week: 5 Date: October 4, 2023 (Day 2)

II. Content
Subject Matter: Work and Energy
Integration:
English : To enhance the students’ reading comprehension.
GAD : Encourage cooperation in every group work and discussion

II. Learning Resources:

Materials: PowerPoint slides
References: Science Learner’s Module in Science 8, Quarter 1 Module 2

II. Procedures

Suggested
Learning Phases Learning Activity
Time frame
1. Classroom Management
Pre-Activity 10 minutes 2. Checking of Attendance
3. Review Previous Lesson
A. ACTIVITY 10 minutes Ask a student volunteer to do a short
demonstration.
Do this!
Play a bowling game. Roll a rubber ball along
the floor to hit an empty bottle. Let the class
observe what happens to the empty bottle as it
hits by the rubber ball.
B. ANALYSIS 5 minutes Ask these questions to the students after doing
the activity:
1. What have you observed on the bowling
game?
2. What can a moving ball do?
3. What happened to the empty bottle?
C. ABSTRACTION 15 minutes Work is a Method of Transferring Energy
 In the bowling game activity, the work is
done by the person on the ball to start it
moving.
 Because of the work done to the ball, it
gained ‘something’ that enables it to
move.
 That ‘something’ that was transferred to
the ball is called energy.
 The energy became energy of motion of
the ball.
 A moving ball has energy. When it
strikes the empty plastic bottle, it can
push it through a distance.
 Thus, work is done by the ball on the
empty plastic bottle.
 Since work is done on the bottle, energy
is transferred to it.
 The one doing the work loses energy
and the object on which work is done
gains energy.
 When work is done by an object, the
object loses energy; when work is done
on an object, the object gains energy.
 Another concept related to work and
energy is power.
 Power is the rate of doing work or the
rate of using energy with the equation:
P = Work = Energy
time time
D. APPLICATION 10 minutes Divide the class into three groups. Each group
can freely select one human activity or a sport
game and discuss how work, energy and power
can be applied.
E. Assessment 10 minutes In a ½ sheet of paper, answer the following
essay questions:
1. Explain the relationship between work,
power and energy.
2. What happens to the energy of the one
doing the work and to the object on
which work is done?
III. Reflection:

A. No. of learners who achieve 80%: ________

B. No. of Learners who require additional activities for remediation: ________
C. Did the remedial lessons work? ________
D. No. of learners who have caught up the lesson: ________
E. No. of learners who continue to require remediation: _______________
F. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did this work?
___________________________________________________________________
G. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor help me solve?
___________________________________________________________________
H. What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover which I wish to share
with another teacher?
