- origin of cultural liberalism can be traced back to the Enlightenment era in the late
17th and early 18th centuries
- Henry David Thoreau is often expressed as the right to "march to the beat of a
different drummer" also known as social liberalism in the United States,

2. Immanuel Kant: was another important figure in the development of cultural
liberalism
- emphasized the importance of individual autonomy and argued that
people should be free to make their own decisions and shape their own lives
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU): - is an organization dedicated to
defending individual rights and liberties in the United States, including freedom of
speech, religion, and the press.

Cultural liberalism - comes from the words culture and liberal. Culture - is called a
way of life for an entire society. It talks about race, ancestry, ethnicity, tribe, and
nationality.
Liberalism - comes from the word liberal, which refers to the freedom of speech,
expression, religious practice, and association.
