1.1 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF AN


ORGANIZATION
Dirre dawa economic planning office is one of the recently formed office which is responsible
for directing the overall macroeconomic activity of the administration, setting long and short
term development direction and preparing long-term middle-term and short- term plane based
on set direction, monitoring and evaluating its implementation and providing input to the
decision-making body at administrative level.
However, After Yekatit 2011 Ethiopian calendar they were separated and start their own work
independently and get acknowledgement from government and the like. So, currently the
Ministry of revenue is the main provider of finance for Dire Dawa as well as to our country.
The Minister was striving for generating revenue as much as its ability by using manual labor
(both skilled and non-skilled labor) and some modern computerized system in its past times of
operation. The numbers of employees at the time of separation were 104 employees among
them 69 are female and 33 are male. HOWEVER, currently; the Minister can generate more
revenue than before by using sophisticated methods such as skilled man power and modern
technology particularly modern computerized systems of operations. There is alot of employees
in organizations which can be 194 employees in number among 107 are female and 87 are
male.
As an overall, the Ministry of revenue can collect its revenue from different Types of economic
activities mainly from different financial institutions, organizations either government or
private, agricultural, manufacturing and service sector of the city administration. The Minister
by pursuing its own goals of organization can able to finance the city administration and the
country as a whole.

1.2 OVER ALL VISION, MISSION, VALUE, STRATEGIC
FOCUS AREA AND OBJECTIVE
A. MISSION
Conducting socio-economic and multidisciplinary studies on the local focus of the
administration; coordinating population activity by preparing a long, medium and short term
plane and budget based on focus and studies, as well as creating a strong monitoring and
evaluation system to establish a consistent and strengthened system in the government sector
offices and kebeles.

Ensuring participatory, practical and effective planning and budget

THE INTERNSHIP
Dirre dawa economic planning office is very wide and contains complex responsibility. It
has four teams and one supper visor.
As a practical student my position was assigned as assistance of our supper visor

 Check-up: - revising all documents that come to our office if they fit to the

standard of our office before they pass to other team and supper visor.

 Error determining responsibility:- once the document pass the check up part I try

to see order of the plane if there is any error I will pass to my supper visor to decide.
 Ordering responsibility: - once the documents pass all procedure than I try to order
the document according to their importance EX. Those who are argent get first order
like water project and school.

3. DISCUSS WHAT YOU LEARNED AND THE SKILL YOU


DEVELOPED
As an economics student I learned many things among them:
a. Time management: - as time is scarce resource I learned how to use this resource
effectively with the help of plane.
b. How to plane economic system efficiently: - as all economic system aim is to achieve
the prosperity I learned how to achieve this aim with the help of economic plane.
c. Economic plane have unique stage: - the third things I learned was economic plane
have short term middle term and long term stage that depend on each other.
d. Economic failure:- that means all economic plane may not reach its target due to
resource constrain like money and time.

4. SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGETH
 Availability of training to increase the productivity of workers
 The economic plane is based on research and development
 Strong monitoring activity during the implementation of the plane
 Good coordination between minister of plane at country level and at dirre dawsa level
during implementation
 Better auditing system ones the plane has been implemented due to effective
management system
 Better coordination among workers
 All activity of team and their supper visor is connected online
 Annual working goal are prepared within a document
 Annual working step are written on a document so there is little confusion during
implementation

WEAKNESS
 There is no effective mechanize to monitor
 Bad time management habit among workers due to they are not controlled by
their supper visor majority of time
 No schedule on how day to day work is implemented
 Monitoring of day to day working environment is limited to attendances
 Wastage of resource due to all plane that come to the office is prepared on
peppar

 Limitation of efficiency during implementation of plane due to lack resource

such as money and effective training

OPPORTUNITY
 Encouraging economic plane has been recently introduced at at minister level that
increase efficiency
 More expertise are coming to the sector specially foreign trainer
 Working environment is become more efficient EX, by giving workers moter
 The economic plane office has been expanded its office at different local level to
increase its awareness to the public
 Government also making huge progress to help minister of economic pane by
preparing long middle and short term plane
 Expenditure on research and development also increased recently

TREAT
 Instability in the country that hinder the achievement of planned goal
 Self-interested official at local level
 Continuous inflation in the country that lead to budget deficit
 Lack of alternative solution for future problem that hinder long term goal
 Brain drain is another problem

5. POSSIBLE PROBLEMS IF ANY

II. decline in monitoring activity ones the plane has been started its implementation due to
 limitation of budget to do so
 lack of well-prepared structure to monitor ground work during implementation of economic

 absence of mechanism of penalty at the beginning of the problem

III. absence of well-structured system to tackle corruption due to


 lack of interest among some leaders to formulate those procedure
especially lower level official
 due to past government does not give much attention to them
 most rule and regulation is only paper based

6. POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION
 A regarding to achievement of goal
 increase the training of workers both in quality and quantity
 make sure workers ready for future unexpected event like pandemic and global structural
change
 make sure our economic plane is based on the interest of that region people
 make sure every economic plane is based of deep research

 regarding to monitoring

 increase budget related to monitoring

 to arrange well-structured system to monitor ground work once the plane come to effect

 assign responsibility of each worker in precise way

 formulate economic plane in a situation that is favorable to monitor

7. CONCLUSION
Dire dawa economic planning office has short history but wider mission and vision. The office
of planning and economic development is responsible for directing the over all macroeconomic
development of the administration, setting long and short term development direction and
preparing long middle and short term plane based on the set direction and monitoring and
evaluating its implementation and providing input decision making body.

In addition to this, the organization has strength, weakness, opportunity and threat which I have
seen from different perspective. Beside this the organization process of activity in fair and
active manner in order to serve financial and non-financial problem of the organization. The
four basic things (cardinal issues) mission, vision, objective and value of the organization are
listed in the part of this paper. I have tried to explain the performance of organization
accordance with the objective and goal of the organization. In the first part of this paper or
report includes the structure of the organization, how the management of the organization
controls the organization and how it communicates with lower employees.
