ELT6029 Curriculum Development in Language Education

Evaluation Criteria

1. School Examination: The students choose a school that is modeled in technology-supported


learning, visits it, and completes her/his observations in the light of the instruction given, and
turns it into a written report. Report evaluation criteria are as follows:

Cover Page
• School and program name,
• Student name-surname,
• Course and instructor name, 5 pts
• Assignment name,
• Date.

Table of Contents
A page such as the table of contents in Appendix 1 should be prepared and the 5 pts
page containing each title should be specified.
Introduction
• A brief introduction of the research topic should be made.
• The information about why this school has been examined should be 10 pts
stated.

School Examination
• In this section, the school should be introduced and the features of the
school should be included.
• The interview with the school administrators or head of English
department should be mentioned within the scope of the school 50 pts
examination.
• Language teaching system of the school and how instructional activities
(in-class activities, exams, projects, clubs, fairs etc.) are carried out
should be mentioned.
• If possible, the report should also be supported with visuals related to
the school.
• Arguments should be supported by literature. The students should give
reference to the literature and blend their own views with it in the text.
• There should be a unity of jargon in the text, the same terminology
should be used to give information on the same subject.
• Each paragraph should consist of at least three sentences, at least two
references.
Not limited to the suggestions here, students can benefit from the following
questions in their interviews with school administrators:
• How is the language learning process is carried out in your school?
• What kind of technological tools, software and supporters are used in your
school?
• Do you have a hybrid learning system? How?
• How do teachers cooperate to ensure students’ learning English?
• How is instruction designed?
• What makes your school successful about teaching Enslish?

Conclusion and Recommendations


The information obtained at the end of the examination, the conclusions or 10 pts
impressions obtained should be stated in this section.
References
References cited in the text should be listed on the references page.

APA 7 Format
The entire research should be based on the APA 7 writing format.

2. Presentation: The students select a country, researches its system and curriculum on English
language teaching, presents what they have found to the group and shares their impressions
with friends. Presentation criteria are as follows:

3. Final Project: The students review the literature and identifies a problem related to curricular
aspects of language teaching. In order to suggest a solution to this problem, s/he designs a
research and turns it into a scientific article by considering the theoretical frameworks
mentioned during the lessons. Methods such as quantitative research, collaborative action
research, quasi-experimental research, mixed research can be chosen in the method of the
article. Report evaluation criteria are as follows:

Introduction
• The research topic should be briefly mentioned.
• The rationale for why this topic was chosen and the research problem 20 pts
should be presented, supported by relevant resources.
• Variables should be identified and brief information should be provided.
• The significance of the research must be stated.
• Research questions should be listed.
Methodology
20 pts
Headings that should be included in this section are:

• Research model
• Participants (population and sample)
• Data collection tools (and their validity / reliability)
• Data analysis

Results / Findings 20 pts

The findings obtained as a result of the analyzes specific to the research


questions should be provided.

Conclusion, Discussion and Recommendations 20 pts

The reasons for the results / findings should be discussed within the scope of
the literature.
References
References cited in the text should be listed on the references page.
10 pts
APA 7 Format
The entire research should be based on the APA 7 writing format.
