Designing performance task

• Identify learning goals

• Consider key traits implied by the goals

• Consider one or more of the suggested frameworks

• Generate initial task ideas

• Check for validity and alignment

• Use G.R.A.S.P.S to flesh out task details

• Develop scoring rubrics

• Differentiate the task as needed

• Assess the entire draft task and rubric using review criteria

Performance Assessment

A performance task is any learning activity or assessment that ask the students to perform, and to
demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and understanding. Performance task yield a tangible product
and/or performance that serve as evidence of learning.

Types of Performance Assessment

1. Product-based Assessment

• Visual products

• Kinesthetic products
• Written products

• Verbal products

2. Process-based assessment

• Oral presentation/demonstration

• Dramatic/Creative performances

• Public Speaking

• Athletic skills demonstration/competition

Principles of Performance Assessment

1. Assessment sould be valid.

2. Assessment should be reliable and consistent.

3. Assessment should be inclusive and equitable.

4. Assessment should be an integral part of program design.

5. The amount of assessed work should be manageable.

6. Formative and summative assessment should be included in each program.

7. Timely feedback that promotes learning and facilitates improvement.

8. Staff development policy and strategy should include assessment.

9. Information about assessment should be explicit, accessible and transparent.
