Chapter 5 OptiX Equipment ECC Configuration

Chapter 5 OptiX Equipment ECC Configuration

5.1 ECC Overview

The message between the SDH network elements is transferred via the
Embedded Control Channel (ECC). The physical layer of ECC is the Data
Communication Channel (DCC), e.g., bytes D1 to D12 in SOH. OptiX
series products use bytes D1 to D3 for the regeneration section DCC,
whose transmission rate is 192Kbit/s and is used to exchange the OAM
information between the Network Elements (NEs).

The communication between the Network Management System (NMS) and

the none-gateway NE is as follows: firstly, information exchange between
the NMS and the gateway NE is via the TCP/IP protocol, and that between
the gateway NE and none-gateway NE is via ECC, till the communication
between the NMS and the none-gateway NE is finally achieved .

The paths via which the NMS logs in another NE through the gateway NE
(the transmitting and receiving routes being the same) are as follows:

1) In the normal state, the route is along the short section of the ring.

2) If the short section is abnormal, the route is along the long section.

3) If both sections are abnormal (similar to the standby ring disconnection),

the logging in is not available.

4) When the standby ring is completely disconnected, the route has to be

manually established (the transmitting and receiving routes not being the
same) for the logging in. Actually, the manual setup is seldom performed
because, mostly, the route is automatically distributed by the system.

5.2 ECC in the OptiX Equipment

5.2.1 OptiX 155/622 equipment

SCC board on the OptiX 155/622 equipment has 6 SCC serial ports, of
which 4 are distributed to the line board position to ensure the connection
of ECC on each line board, and 2 are distributed to the tributary board. The
tributary board position DCC enters the SCC in the handling mode of 2 out
of 8. The line board position 11 and 12 share 2 groups of DCC bus, No. 13
and 14 board positions share 2 groups of DCC bus, ensuring DCC

connection through in the ring network formed by SL2 instead of SL1. If

only one SL2 board is inserted in a group of line slots, both of its optic ports
can be distributed with a SCC ports each. But if two line slots are inserted
with boards, only the optic port on the SL2 board can be distributed with a
SCC port.

5.2.2 Automatic Distribution of ECC in OptiX 2500+

In the OptiX 2500+ equipment, maximum 20 ECCs may be distributed in

the way totally different from that in the original OptiX 155/622 equipment,
in which the ECC channel is fixedly distributed for each subscriber line
board slot, trolled for each tributary slot and the channel number is
automatically assigned to the optical port in use. Compared with it, the
automatic distribution of ECC in the OptiX 2500+ equipment is as follows:

(1) In the default setting, after being empowered, the NE will automatically
assign the channel number to the existing electric port or optical port whose
property is ECC automatic distribution or manual enabling from the slot of
small IU number to that of the large number (IU1 to IU12). The ECC
number will be automatically assigned to the optical interface board in the
slot no matter it starts working or not.

(2) Once the channel number is assigned, the ECC is occupied by the
corresponding optical/electrical port no matter the optical interface board is
in position or not. The ECC number will not be redistributed unless the
channel number is manually closed or the main control board is reset (if so,
the channel number will be distributed as described in the above step).

(3) The optical/electric port of the circuit group board inserted after the
power is on will occupy the idle channel number in the inserting sequence.
They will not impact the optical port assigned with the channel before.

However, if the number of the optical/electric SDH port exceeds twenty, the
ECC is then not enough to be distributed to each of them. At that time,
some ECC may be manually closed by the command if they are not
necessary any more and then they will be assigned to the optical/electric
port requiring the channel (from IU1 to IU12). For example, if multiple
optical ports are connected to the adjacent NE, only one ECC is enough.

5.2.3 ECC Feed-through While the SCC Board Is Not In the Position

(1) When the SCC board is not in the position, the ECC of the optical
interface boards inserted in the following slots may be interconnected,
which is called the feed-through:

<OptiX 155/622>

3-2

Chapter 5 OptiX Equipment ECC Configuration

LU1 and LU2 (slot 11 and slot 12)

LU3 and LU4 (slot 13 and slot 14)

<OptiX 2500+>

IU1 and IU2

IU3 and IU10

IU4 and IU9

IU5 and IU6

IU7 and IU8

IU11 and IU12

Please note that if the optical interface board inserted in the above slots
has multiple optical ports, the feed-through is only available for the ECC
between the optical ports of the same number. For example, if the IU1 and
IU2 boards are all inserted into the SD4 to form the ADM, the feed-through
is only available for the ECC between the optical port 1 of IU1 and optical
port 1 of IU2.

(2) For the board providing multiple optical ports, the feed-through is
available for the ECC between the port 1 and 3 and between the port 2 and
4, which is called the temporary feed-through.

(3) For two optical interface boards (of the same type) in the above slots,
whether the ECC is in the feed-through or temporary feed-through state is
determined by the logic system mapping in the configuration. For example,
if SD1s are inserted into IU5 and IU6 and two first optical ports of them are
mapped to form the ADM in the configuration, then only the feed-through is
available when the SCC board is not in the position. If two adjacent ports in
both of the IU5 and IU6 form the ADM, then only the temporary feed-
through is available when the SCC board is not in the position.

5.3 Extended ECC

When two or more NEs are not interconnected with each other via the
optical channels, the Ethernet may be used to expand the ECC
communication. The 4.05.02.X or above series nesoft (OptiX 2500+) and
4.01.15.52 and above (OptiX 155/622, OptiX 155/622H) support both of the
automatic and manual extended ECCs, of which the former expansion
indicates that two ECCs are connected via the Ethernet ports
interconnected via the direct network line; the latter expansion indicates
that two NEs at both ends are specified as the server and client by the

3-3
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 3 Data Configuration
Chapter 5 OptiX Equipment ECC Configuration

command and then they are interconnected via the direct network line to
achieve the feed-through.

5.3.1 Setting of the Automatic Extended ECC

Because the automatic extended ECC involves no manual operation and is

very simple, so it should be adopted as possible as most; however, since
this function is disabled in the default setting of the system, so the operator
has to enable this function by the following command:

:cm-control-tmn:nebylan,open;

After executing the command, the system will automatically reset to enable
the function, then connect two Ethernet ports by the direct network line to
achieve the extended ECC.

5.3.2 Setting of the Manual Extended ECC

To manually perform the extended ECC, set one NE as the server

(generally the one nearest to the gateway NE) and other NEs as the clients.
If there are only two NEs, they may be directly interconnected via the direct
network line; if there are multiple NEs, they may be connected to one HUB
via the standard network line. The extended ECC is bidirectional. Please
perform the manual extended ECC in the following way:

(1) Firstly, disable the automatic extended ECC function before the manual
expansion:

:cm-control-tmn:nebylan,close;

(2) Set the peer end as the server on one side of ECC:

:ecc-add-maclan::server,1700,0;

(3) Set the peer end as the client on the other side of ECC:

:ecc-add-maclan:client,1700, IP address of the peer end;

(4) Reset the host of the server and client NEs: :reset;

After the resetting, connect both NEs via the network line to achieve the
extended ECC.

Please note that, in the OptiX 155/622 equipment, the port number of the
extended ECC may be set as 1600; however, in the OptiX 2500+
equipment, the port number is generally set as 1700 or above because the
1600 or below numbers are all reserved for other purposes.

3-4

Chapter 5 OptiX Equipment ECC Configuration

After the setting, the operator may use the ':ecc-get-maclan' command to
check whether the setting is correct.

5.4 General Commands Used In the ECC Fault Debugging

All slots in the ECC related commands of the OptiX 2500+ equipment
indicate the physical board slots, not the numbers.

5.4.1 'ecc-get-route' Command (OptiX 155/622, OptiX 155/622H, OptiX 2500+)

Command format: :ecc-get-route;

The 'ecc-get-route' command is used to query the destination NE and the

routes/sections goes through. The ECC route will be selected along the
path spanning minimum sections and does not relate to the service
direction. The returned results of the command are as follows:

ECC ROUTE

DST-ID DXC-ID DISTANCE LEVEL MODE

SCC-NO

0x0009000a 0x0009000a 0 4 auto

1

0x00090008 0x00090008 0 4 auto

0

0x00090007 0x0009000a 1 4 auto

1

Total records :3

'DST-ID' indicates the destination NE, e.g. '09000a' refers to the NE whose
ID is 10.

'DXC-ID' indicates the first NE the route goes through. For the destination
NE that is directly connected to the NE via the optical channel, the 'DST-ID'
should be as same as the 'DXC-ID'.

'DISTANCE' indicates the number of NEs the route goes through before
reaching the destination NE. For the adjacent NE, this parameter is 0.

'MODE' indicates whether the route is automatically or manually created.

The level of the manually created route (level not specified) is higher than
that of the automatically created route. To delete the manual route, the
operator must set its level as 0. Except the single-fiber ring, the manual
route is usually not performed.

3-5
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 3 Data Configuration
Chapter 5 OptiX Equipment ECC Configuration

'SCC-NO' indicates the number of ECC the route goes through. This
parameter should be as same as the result queried by the ':ecc-get-bdinfo'
command.

5.4.2 'ecc-get-bdinfo' Command (OptiX 2500+)

Command format: :ecc-get-bdinfo;

Listed below are returned results of the command:

FIBER PORT STATE

BID FIBER-PORT PORT-STATE LINK-CHAN LOGIC-CHAN-STATE

9 1 port-auto 0 ok

10 1 port-auto 1 ok

Total records :2

'BID' indicates the slot number of the optical/electric SDH interface board.

'FIBER-PORT' indicates the optical port used by ECC on the optical

interface board. In the above example, the S16 board is in the slot 10 and
only the first optical port of it is used.

'PORT-STATE' indicates the distribution state of the ECC number. The

returned 'port-auto' indicates the automatic distribution, 'port-enable'
indicates the manual enabling and 'port-disable' indicates the manual
disabling. This parameter is the returned results of the ':ecc-set-fiberport'
command.

'LINK-CHAN' indicates the ECC number assigned for that optical port,
ranging from 0 to 19.

'LOGIC-CHAN-STATE' indicates the ECC state. There are three returned

results: 'rx_f' indicates the failed receiving, 'tx_f' indicates the failed
transmission and 'ok' indicates the normal interconnection.

5.4.3 'ecc-get-chaninfo' Command (OptiX 2500+)

Command format: :ecc-get-chaninfo: ECC number;

The 'ECC number' parameter of the command is actually the value

displayed below the 'LINK-CHAN' in the returned results of the ':ecc-get-
bdinfo' command.

Listed below are returned results of the command:

CHANNEL INFO

Total records :1

This command is used to check the information on the transmitted/received

bytes. In general, following four increasing parameters are usually viewed:
TRNS_NUMS, TRNS_BYTES, RECV_NUMS and RECV_BYTES. In the
self-loop, the transmitted bytes are of the same quantity of that received.

5.4.4 'ecc-get-chanerror' Command (OptiX 2500+)

Command format: :ecc-get-chanerror:ECC number;

Listed below are returned results of the command:

CHANNEL ERROR INFORMATION

QFull LG NON CR AB UN MRF RXBY

0 0 550 2090 110 0 0 0

Total records :1

The command returns the type of the receiving fault: 'NON' indicates that
eight bytes are not aligned, 'CR' indicates the check error and 'AB' indicates
there exist seven continuous '1'.

In the normal state, the returned results of the command should all be '0s'
or the unchanged number. If the returned value is increasing, it indicates
that the receiving fault continuously exists.

5.4.5 'ecc-set-fiberport' Command (OptiX 2500+)

1. Command Description

Command format: :ecc-set-fiberport:para1,para2,para3;

This command is used to manually set the application state of the ECC.
The first parameter indicates the slot number (not the IU number), the
second indicates the port number and the third one indicates the command
byte sent to that optical port. Here follow the command bytes:

'0' indicates that the ECC is in the 'port-auto' mode, that is, the ECC
number is automatically distributed by the host following the distribution
principles.

3-7
OptiX High-level Training Manual Part 3 Data Configuration
Chapter 5 OptiX Equipment ECC Configuration

'1' indicates that the ECC is in the 'port-enable' mode, that is, the ECC is
manually enabled when the idle number is available.

'2' indicates that the ECC is in the 'port-disable' mode, that is, the ECC is
manually inhibited to be distributed to that optical port. In such
circumstance, the port will not be assigned with the ECC if it has not been
assigned with that before. If the port has been assigned with the channel,
then the channel will be turned into the idle state for other uses.

2. Example of the Command Application

:ecc-set-fiberport:5,1,0;

The above command indicates that the ECC is automatically distributed to

the first optical port of the optical interface board in the slot 5.

3. Purpose of the Command

This command is used to save the ECC resource by disabling those

unnecessary ECCs when there are multiple optical ports simultaneously
connecting to the same adjacent NE.

5.4.6 'ecc-reset-port' Command (OptiX 2500+)

Command format: :ecc-reset-port:para1,para2;

The first parameter indicates the slot number and the second one indicates
the optical port number.

If the ECC along certain direction is not in the feed-through state, the
operator can reset the ECC ports by the related command and then check
whether it is restored; if not, please reset the main control board and check
again.

5.4.7 'ecc-get-sccinfo' Command (OptiX 155/622)

Ecc-get-sccinfo command is for checking the working state of different SCC

port

4.01 return format is as:

Scc_ch is the number of SCC port. In the 155/622 equipment, number 0-3
corresponds 11 - 14 line board position; number 6 - 7 corresponds the
tributary board position. State means the state of its SCC port; OK means
the receiving and transmitting is normal; if it is not OK, it means that the
channel can not work. Lu_b represents the corresponding line and tributary
board number; rx_bytes represents the byte number received; tx_bytes
represents the byte number transmitted. In normal cases, both the
receiving and transmitting have some bytes; if there is a 0, it means the
channel is abnormal. In the NE commissioning, the receiving and
transmitting byte number under the self-ring state should be consistent. In
the on-line system commissioning, after ECC channel is reset, check
whether the receiving and transmitting byte number is consistent so as to
judge whether the route is normal or not. Rx_sr and tx_sr represent the
receiving and transmitting state of the state register. Under normal
condition, it is 0. ECC state is refreshed once /2s.

5.4.8 'ecc-reset-dcc' Command (OptiX 155/622)

Ecc-reset-dcc command is used to reset certain SCC port. The parameter

followed is the number of that SCC port. If the ECC of certain direction is
found not through, use this command to reset the related SCC port, check
again to see whether it is normal without reseting the SCC board.
