(a) Calculate the needed fire flow (NFF) that required for firefighting to confine a major
fire to the buildings for this community within max of 10 hours with minimal loss.
Fire demand can be estimated in terms of population:
F (m3/hr) = 231.6 √P (1 – 0.01 √P), where P is population in thousands

(b) Examine the (i) max. daily demand and fire demand, (ii) max. hourly demand; and
recommend the appropriate municipal water demand for this community assuming:
Max. daily rate = 1.8 × avg. daily rate
Max hourly rate = 1.5 × max. daily rate = 2.7 × avg. rate
