A Rose for Emily

The story of A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner is about the death of Miss
Emily. The narrator tells how the whole town attended the funeral of Miss Emily.
Before the death of Miss Emily, she grown to be a legend in the town.
Miss Emily is a motherless child, so when her father died, she denied that her
father died and don’t want to give up her father. Not until she break down and
finally give up the body for burial. Before her father died, her family is wealthy
that if the town need help financially, her father generously came through to loan
Mayor Colonel Santoris money. But the new generation wasn’t feeling good about
this arrangement because they argue that they didn’t have any verbal agreement
regarding to this arrangement. They required Miss Emily to pay taxes but she
refuse to pay. After thirty years, the tax collector had a bad encounter with Miss
Emily about the bad smell at her house. About two years ago, after her father
died, not long after her lover disappeared. The people in the town thinks that the
lover of Miss Emily broke her heart and one time they think that they got married
after the people saw Miss Emily bought men items. After the death of Miss Emily
because of an illness, the townspeople decided to go upstairs and enter the room
that has been closed for forty years, when they enter the room they discovered
the long kept secret of Miss Emily. They found the corpse of the lover of Miss
Emily stretched out in bed with suit and wedding tokens. As the townspeople get
closer to the bed they found a strand of gray hair upon the pillow next to him.
Till the end of the story, they discovered the long kept secret of Miss Emily. It
show the love of Miss Emily towards her lover. Because of the love of Miss Emily,
when her lover rejected her, she murder him by giving him a rat poison. She killed
her lover to make him stay with her. She stretched out his dead body and make it
wear a suit with a wedding tokens.
