RESEARCH PROPOSAL

SUMMARY

Fertilizers are natural substances that are added to soil or land to

increase fertility. However, fertilizers have a negative impact on our

environment. An example of these are soil acidification, waterway pollution,

and more.

In addition, nano fertilizers are characterized by their rapid absorption

and controlled delivery of nutrients into plants. Nano fertilizers increase

nutrient use efficiency. Making a nano fertilizer by using chicken bone biochar

besides that, nano fertilizers can exert both stimulatory and inhibitory effects

on microorganisms, which directly influence plant growth and survival. With

this in mind, this study aims to put the good effects of a nano fertilizer to good

use to help plants grow, and also help the environment.

The use of a hydroxyapatite nano fertilizer will be used in three different

ways, such as foliar spray, seed treatment, and soil amendment.

BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM

As the demand for sustainable agricultural practices grows, exploring eco-friendly

alternatives to chemical fertilizers becomes imperative. This research aims to

investigate the potential of Sandoricum koetjape (Santol) as a biofertilizer to enhance

soil fertility, promote nutrient absorption by crops, and improve overall crop productivity

while considering its viability as a sustainable alternative to conventional fertilizers."

BENEFICIARIES
Plants. The Sandoricum koetjape fertilizer will provide nutrients for plants to grow

healthier, quicker and bigger.

Consumers. The animal consumers will consume the healthier plants as their basic

food and plant-based energy source.

Farmers. The farmers that will use the Sandoricum koetjape fertilizer will improve the

productivity and growth of plants.

Future researchers. This research might serve as a guide and provide knowledge for

future researchers.

PROPOSED SOLUTION

In the dynamic landscape of modern agriculture, the quest for sustainable and

environmentally friendly practices has taken center stage. As the global population

continues to grow and the demand for food intensifies, it is imperative that we explore

innovative solutions that not only enhance crop productivity but also minimize the

ecological footprint of farming. Amidst this challenge, the often overlooked santol tree

emerges as a potential source of "green gold" – an organic fertilizer with the power to

reshape agricultural practices for a more sustainable future.

This research endeavors to unravel the untapped potential of santol as a transformative

organic fertilizer and to shed light on its viability as a sustainable alternative to

conventional fertilizers. Native to tropical regions, the santol tree has long been

esteemed for its fruits and timber, yet its leaves, bark, and other components hold a

wealth of nutritive and agronomic benefits that still are underexplored. By investigating

the chemical composition, nutrient content, and practical applications of santol-based

fertilizers, we aim to unlock a pathway toward regenerative agriculture.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL

This study is structured as follows: Section 1 outlines the contemporary challenges

posed by synthetic fertilizers, emphasizing their adverse effects on soil health, water

quality, and long-term sustainability. Section 2 delves into the diverse attributes of the

santol tree, highlighting its nutrient-rich composition and potential contributions to soil

enrichment and plant growth. In Section 3, this study will present empirical evidence

and case studies that showcase the tangible outcomes of incorporating santol-derived

organic fertilizers, ranging from improved crop yields to enhanced microbial activity in

the soil. Furthermore, Section 4 examines the broader implications of adopting santol-

based fertilizers, including their role in promoting circular economy practices and

fostering local economic development.

As we embark on this journey into the realm of santol-based organic fertilizers, we are

reminded of the intricate interplay between nature's offerings and human ingenuity. By

recognizing and harnessing the hidden potential of the santol tree, we have the

opportunity to steer agriculture toward a greener, more resilient, and sustainable

trajectory, ensuring a bountiful harvest for generations to come.

A. Materials

Santol (Sandoricum Koetjape) seeds will be gathered at household around

Grand Villas, Marilao, Bulacan. Pechay seeds (Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis) and

watering can will be bought online.

C. Experimentation

1. Collection and Extraction

Mature santol fruits will be collected and the seeds will be extracted. The seeds will be

cleaned to remove any fruit pulp or residue.

2. Peeling

The outer skin of the santol fruits will be peeled off, and the peels are collected.

3. Grinding:

A blender or food processor will be used to finely grind the santol seeds and peels.

4. Transfer and Storage:

The ground santol seed and peel mixture will be transferred into a plastic or glass

container for storage.

5. Soaking:

Enough water will be poured into the container to soak the santol seed and peel

mixture.

6. Soaking and Stirring:

The mixture is allowed to soak for a few days, with occasional stirring.

7. Straining:

After a few days, the liquid extract will be strained using a strainer or cheesecloth to

separate the solid particles.

8. Transfer for Application:

The liquid extract will be transferred into a spray bottle or watering can for easy

application.

9. Ensure Adequate Ventilation for Safety:

A well-ventilated area will be used when handling santol seeds and peels to avoid skin

irritation.

10. Application:

The santol seed and peel fertilizer will be applied by spraying it onto pechay plant or

pouring it directly into the soil around the pechay plant.

The researchers will wear proper laboratory attire to avoid any unexpected

circumstances such as long pants, closed shoes and laboratory coat. Safety glasses is

a must and should be worn to avoid things that can cause damages to eye. The

researchers will also wear disposable gloves as a protection from incidental contact,

and face mask to avoid inhaling toxic substances. Lastly, the researchers will be

responsible.
