1. “Ässessment can aid in evaluating teaching effectiveness” is the statement that I agree
with. Student assessment enables the teacher to measure the effectiveness of their
teaching by linking student performance to specific learning objectives. As a result, the
teachers are able to institutionalize effective teaching choices and revise ineffective
ones in their pedagogy.
2. The differences between norm-referenced and criterion-referenced are..
a. Norm -referenced is a type of test that assesses the test taker’s ability and
performance against other test takers. Criterion-reference is a type of test that
assesses the test taker’s ability to understand a set curriculum.
b. The scores are also reported in different formats as well as interpreted
differently.
c. Norm-referenced tests must be administered in a standardized format. While the
Criterion-reference isn’t.
The advantages are..
a. Norm-references are dependable and stable for what they are designed to
measure. It can help differentiate students and identify those who may have specific
educational needs or deficits that require specialized assistance or learning environments.
b.. Criterion-referenced tests can give teachers an idea of how a student is
advancing in class.
3. Authenticity is the degree of correspondence of the characteristics of a given
language test task to the features of a target language task. It also means a task that is likely to
be encountered in the “real world". Washback means the effect of a testing on teaching and
learning. In large-scale assessment, it refers to the effects that tests have on instruction in the
terms of how the students prepare for the test.
4. My worst experience of taking the test was during my year in junior high school. I
took a TOEFL test but I didn't prepare. The teacher only gave me instructions about the subject
of the test without telling me if there’s many sections of the test. The teacher didn’t give or
suggest practice. I had no idea back then that the scores have so much impact for the next
semester class report. I came so unprepared due to the teacher's lack of attention. I would
suggest to all the teachers who teach junior classes, they should pay more attention to their
students, especially since they are still juniors and need more details about the test and give
them more practice.
