IV
PERSONAL EVALUATION
OF THE
TRAINING PROGRAM
PERSONAL EVALUATION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

Reaction paper by the trainee to include comments on the following areas:

1. Significant Achievements
I picked up a few technical skills during my training that helped me become more
self-aware and acquainted with the workplace in my chosen sector of expertise. In
addition, we helped with finishing jobs including installing stirrups for columns and
beams and cutting wire for ties.
2. Technical skills and new technology learned
Throughout my site monitoring, I learned about and gained experience with the
technical aspects of each distinct scope of work. Additionally, during our site visits
to the other sites, we noticed how workers constructed footing and concrete
pouring. Additionally, we learned in actual the estimation of phenolic boards,
lumbers, and steel decks that would be used
3. Equipment, machinery, testing apparatus, etc., handled
I had the chance to use a steel cutter, a masonry trowel, and pliers during my
training. In addition, I witnessed how a concrete mixer and backhoe were used in
actual construction.
4. Experiences with the company personnel involved in the training
During my training period, I received a great deal of knowledge from the site
engineer, foreman, skilled workers, and even laborers as I attended my on-the-job
training in the office and on-site. All of them were eager to share their expertise on
the working procedures and details with us and were able to respond to our
inquiries about their jobs.
5. Strong points
One of the strengths of the training program is that it gives students the chance to
interact with and learn about the actual work that is done in their chosen area of
expertise, as well as to acquire knowledge that they can use in the future.
6. Weak points and suggested solutions
One thing that concerned me and was considered the company’s weak point was the
inability to prioritize site inspection and supervision on the project.
V
RECOMMENDATIONS
RECOMMENDATIONS

A. Potential of the company as a training ground

 Availability and appropriateness of facilities, equipment and machinery
Due to the company's adequately controlled facilities, machinery, and
equipment, as well as the fact that everyone's safety is given top attention, I
can attest to its availability and suitability as a training ground as a trainee.
 Company personnel cooperation
Cooperation and positive relationships are significant in this company. Workers
in the company must share knowledge and ideas from their experience and
knowledge to help trainees advance in their chosen sector of competence in
order to learn new things and obtain more experience.
B. Duration of training (too long or too short)
The training period is brief, but it shouldn't be too brief because, as trainees, we
must gain a lot of knowledge and abilities in that time in order to use them
effectively as engineers.
C. Suggestions for the improvement of the training program
Increase the amount of time that on-the-job trainees spend receiving training, and
keep creating initiatives that can help students feel more at home in the
workplace.
D. Advise to future On-the-Job Trainees
As you enter a construction site or visit a site, be sure to pay great attention to
even the slightest things. Additionally, pick a business that fits your program and
will help you develop your talents, increase your confidence, and feel committed to
your work. As you begin your training in the field you're entering, be proactive and
self-assured. As a result, be brave and ask your site supervisor the questions you
want to know the answers to in order to learn new information that will enable
you to apply it successfully in your chosen field of expertise. While you're on the
practice field, pay attention and be open to learning. Additionally, treat everyone
equally and with kindness, especially the employees. Additionally, always be
friendly and extend a warm welcome to guests. Asking who they are and how you
can help them can help you assist them.

NARRATIVE REPORT
On our first day, July 17, 2023, of our on-the-job training at the
construction of Landmark Tower of Urdaneta City, Province of Pangasinan,
it was cloudy and rainy. Engr. Leo has instructed us to start supervising our
designated sites. There were four trainees at the Landmark tower on our
first day. There were two workers present: Arnel Rosales and Melvin
Sarmiento. They started to cut 10mm and 12mm steel bars and formed into
lateral ties the size of 90cm x 90cm. Since it was our first day we looked
around and checked the measurements of columns and steel.
In the afternoon, Engr. Leo visited the site at 2:15 pm. He instructed us on
what to do and what not to do on the site to ensure quality results. We also
began to cut steel wires to be used as ties. It was not raining as heavily as it
was in the morning. At the end of the day about 70 pieces of lateral ties
were finished.
On July 18th, before 7:30 in the morning, employees and trainees
arrive in full PPE. The weather was sunny and additional workers were
assigned to the tower. There were also two additional trainees who joined
from the other site in Bactad. Workers started cutting steel bars, bending
steel bars for lateral ties, cutting steel wires for ties, and installing lateral
ties in the columns.
In the afternoon, around 2:14pm Engr. Leo called and requested extra
hands for their project. Therefore, seven workers from our site were
transferred to the project in the City Hall. We trainees were assigned to
monitor and help the workers with what they need. The cutting and
bending of steel bars continued throughout the day.
On day 3, July 19, 2023, it was still sunny, and more workers have
arrived ( to speed up the progress at the Landmark Tower. At 7:30 am they
started doing their work. We we’re divided into teams of two. Three people
on the second floor, supervising works in progress. The workers have
started to put formworks to be used for concrete. Then the other three
stayed on the ground floor to help make ties for the bars. The ties were for
different diameters of steel. Therefore, the cuts were a variation of lengths.
After our break, the workers immediately went back to work. At 11:26 am a
worker was tasked to get one 9mx16mm diameter deformed bar.
In the afternoon at 2:10 pm UCU instructor, Engr. Edsel A. Balbera, visited
the site and assessed the trainees on their ongoing project. At 3:22 pm, the
rain started to pour. We continued to make ties with steel wires.
On July 20, 2023, the fourth day of our on-the-job training,
employees and trainees arrived at the customary hour of 7:30 am. Because
it was a wonderful sunny day, Rodendo, Jimmy, and Argie just proceeded
installing formwork for two additional 900 x 900 mm columns. While
Melvin and Arnel continued to make column ties, Marlon and John
continued to install lateral ties that were the same size as the mentioned
column. 9:30 am or so, Engr. Vanessa visited the site and inquired about
the materials required for the job, Argie requests some nails to be used for
installing the formwork, and Melvin requests cutting discs for cutting the
bars.
During the afternoon work, together with Virgilio, who arrived at the site
for only a half-day of work, Marlon and John began placing lateral ties for
two columns during the afternoon shift. When it was about 4:30 p.m.,
Engr. Leo Roxas paid a visit to the location and requested our reports as
trainees stationed there.
Friday, July 21, 2023, the fifth day of work for the construction of
Landmark Tower. Foreman Orlando Manangan entered the site together
with 3 new labors namely, Michael Cuaresma, Angelo Zamora and Robert
Dumasin for additional manpower. Marlon, John, Dexter and Virgilio as
well as Juvy continued installing Column ties for 900 x 900 mm mm ties.
