 Introduction
The electronics goods manufacturing industry is composed of
organizations involved in the manufacture, design and
development, assembly, and servicing of electronic equipment
and components.
The electronics goods manufacturing industry in Bangladesh is
one of the fastest-growing industries in the country with great
potential. The electronics industry in Bangladesh mostly
produces consumer items such as mobile phones, home
appliances. In the past couple of decades, domestic consumer
electronics and home appliance brands have played a massive
role in improving the quality of life for Bangladeshi people. Back
in the day, this sector was primarily import-oriented, but over
time, these local electronic brands are becoming fully self-
sufficient. Since these local brands manufacture their products
in their own factories, they are able to offer competitive prices
over international brands. Because of this, people from
different cities and remote areas of the country have benefited
as it makes these products a lot more affordable to them. Aside
from that, these local brands are creating substantial
employment opportunities with significant contributions to the
nation’s economy.

Electronics Goods Manufacturing Industry in BD products are
mostly home appliances and smartphones and higher
technology products. Home appliances products are such as
water heaters ,electric kettles, refrigerators, blenders, ac,
heater, mixers, vacuum cleaner, dishwashers, washing
machines, microwave ovens, and induction cookers. Higher
technology products are smartphones, tablets, personal
computers and parts, GPS automotive electronics, digital
cameras, printers, scanners, smartwatch, fitness band.
These products are connected with peoples life. In this modern
world people use these products to make their life more easier
and time efficient. That’s why day by day the demand of
electronics products are increasing. Almost every home needs a
refrigerators, blender, microwave oven. Also almost everyone is
using smartphones. Young people are using smartwatches,
people who are fitness concern use fitness bands. Students and
corporate people need laptops and pcs to get their work done.

Short history-
The use of electronics in Bangladesh started in the 1930s
through the field of communication with the establishment
of radio stations.
In the 1950s, the electronic consumer appliance journey started
with assembling the radio set. Electronics industry made an
inception in the private sector and a few assembly plants were
set up to produce a limited number of radio sets. After 1960s
some of the plants started assembling television sets. Before
1980, most of the domestic appliances and equipment’s were
imported, except the one-band radio, but after 1980 many
assembly plants for radio, television, audio and video cassette
recorders and players were established. After 1990, advanced
products like computers, cordless telephones, satellite TV signal
receiving equipment etc. started to be assembled and some
spare parts also began to be manufactured.
But later, the electronics appliance market in Bangladesh began
to grow and gradually, those companies shifted from
assembling to manufacturing most of the parts. However, they
still had to import a few technical components because it was
not yet possible to locally manufacture them. Also foreign
brands started to collab with local companies.

There was a time, this sector was basically import-oriented, but
over time, these local electronic brands are becoming fully self-
sufficient. In Bangladesh, many electronic companies are doing
their business. Since these local brands manufacture their
products in their own factories, they are able to offer
competitive prices over international brands, and so they are
gaining popularity among Bangladeshi people. Local electronic
brands are-
Walton Electronics, Jamuna Electronics, Vision Electronics, My
One, Minister.
Local companies manufacture and assembles Electronics Home
Appliances in collaboration with foreign brands. Such as
companies like Fair Group, Butterfly Group, Electra, Rangs
Group, Electro Mart, and Transcom Group are in collaboration
with international brands like Samsung, Whirlpool, LG, Sony,
Gree, Konka, and Sharp.
Top Groups of electronic Companies in Bangladesh is Walton,
Singer, Marcel, Butterfly, and Samsung.
These companies change Bangladesh’s electronic sector or
economy. These groups of companies are pushing Bangladesh’s
economy to a new level.
Walton Company’s Success-
Walton and MyOne started their operations in the 1990s as the
first commercial consumer electronic makers.
After Walton, many other local companies started manufacture
electronic home appliances in the country. Walton is the first
local company that introduced country's
first compressor manufacturing plant in 2017. It helped Walton
to manufacture electronics like refrigerators, freezers, and air
conditioners in their manufacturing plant. Walton started to
competitively price their electronics and home appliance
products, and as the cost was low compared to global brands,
this grew more interest in consumers to purchase products
from Bangladeshi companies. Now Walton is one of the leading
brand of Bangladesh. Its very popular among local customers.

As we can see in graph Walton is leading with 66% market

share in refrigerator.
Contribution in national economy
A country needs to be self-sufficient in almost every sector
including food, clothing, and electronics. It reduces the
country’s dependence on another country and improves its
development. Local electronics companies are exporting their
products abroad after fulfilling the local customers need .They
are exporting their products to 40 countries, including the
Middle East, Africa, and Europe.

According to the report every year export amount is increasing.

It brings foreign revenue to our country that has a impact on
our GDP. Also its reducing import dependency which makes the
country sufficient in electronics and also saving millions of
dollars. Also its attracting foreign investors to do business in
our country.
The market size of the electronics industry which includes both
industrial and consumer electronics was estimated to be
around USD 5.29 billion at the end of 2019. Overall electronics
and electrical equipment market are expected to surpass USD
12 billion by 2025 with consumer electronics market expected
to cross USD 10 billion by 2030. USD 2.4 billion Annual market
demand for electronic appliance 2020.
Employment opportunities
A vital electronics industry can boost a country's economic
growth, provide jobs for skilled workers, and speed
development in other sectors. Among the biggest challenges
faced by enterprises are major upheavals in human resources,
including worker shortage.
Electronics goods manufacturing industry have created
employment for many people, thus, helping to reduce
unemployment and increasing the overall skilled labor force in
order to manufacture technological products. These domestic
brands engage their dealers, marketers, and sellers, creating
employment for many other groups of people.
They are making skillful workers with proper training. These
skillful workers are country’s property. This will reduce
unemployment problem of country. These skillful worker can
also work on international level. Because there is always
demand for skillful people in every industry. Cause they know
to do the work efficiently and by doing least amount of
mistakes.
Also companies need skillful workers to give proper after sales
service.
Repairing and servicing goods creates huge employment, as we
tend to not easily discard objects once they malfunction but try
to repair them.
There are around 3,000 organizations involved in the sector
employing around 1 million people.
 Conclusion
The electronics industry of the country that began with
assembling radio sets way before independence is now
assembling almost everything the local consumers need,
including the high-tech smartphones and laptops. An increasing
number of local plants are manufacturing items like
refrigerators, televisions, air conditioners, washing machines
and other home appliances, while their value addition and
competition dramatically reduced unit prices to make those
affordable to all. The government is continuously providing
fiscal and non-fiscal incentives in the form of corporate tax
incentives, reduced import duties for raw materials to
encourage local manufacturing Rising urbanization, increasing
electrification in rural areas, easy access to credit, growing
women participation in the workforce, increasing globalization
with growing internet usage and smartphone penetration is
expected to drive the demand for electronic appliances and
electrical equipment.
