The learner achieves the task fully by describing what the children were doing in the picture, and by answering
some simple questions about themselves and their friends. She was able to recall all of the action verbs and
use them in the appropriate present continuous tense. However, she did not use contractions, which are
natural features of spoken discourse e.g. Tom is (Tom’s)
She responded to the general questions reasonably well, giving a structured response, albeit, with some minor
inaccuracies, such as missing the possessive ‘s’, linking verb ‘b’ and possessive pronoun ‘my’. my friend(‘s)
name, I(‘m) good at, with (my) mum.

Tung Dung only just moved to this class; therefore, he did not actually attend the classes that the test was
designed for.
Dung achieves the task at a basic level. He was able to produce most of the action verbs, needed to describe
the picture and use them in the appropriate present continuous tense. However, he did not use contractions,
which are natural features of spoken discourse e.g. Tom is (Tom’s) He could not respond to the general
questions. However, this is due to lack of exposure and familiarity to the questions themselves. Thus, this test
has more of a function, as a diagnostic test rather than that of an achievement test.

Although believe Chi is very capable, her test performance was below the standard requirement. There are
two major factors affecting the outcome of Chi’s performance. The first factor concerns ‘student reliability’. In
applied linguistics, there has been lots of research into the correlation between learner anxiety, learning and
performance. Therefore, the fact that testing situations increase her anxiety, this can have a big effect on the
reliability of her performance. The other factor is that she is still quite reluctant to engage in many activities,
which of course are absolutely essential for learning to take place.
Recommendations
1. To try to commit to engaging in all the classroom activities
2. To try to view English as a tool for communication and interacting.

The learner achieves the task by describing what the children were doing in the picture, and by answering
some simple questions about themselves and their friends. She was able to recall all but one of the action
verbs and use them in the appropriate present continuous tense. However, she did not use contractions,
which are natural features of spoken discourse e.g. Tom is (Tom’s)
She responded to the general questions well, giving structured responses. In addition, she contracted the ‘be’
verb in some of those responses, as well as remembered to use the possessive ‘s’ e.g. I’m, it’s, friend’s

The learner achieves the task fully by describing what the children were doing in the picture, and by answering
some simple questions about themselves and their friends. he was able to recall almost all of the action verbs
and use them in the appropriate present continuous tense. However, she did not use contractions, which are
natural features of spoken discourse e.g. Tom is (Tom’s)
She responded to the general questions well, giving structured responses. In addition, she showed good use of
anaphoric referencing, through using pronouns, to avoid repetition and display more cohesion in her speaking
e.g. her, she. On the other hand, there were some minor inaccuracies, for instance, missing linking ‘be’ verbs
e.g. her name (is), my friend (is) good at

The learner achieves the task by describing what the children were doing in the picture, and by answering
some simple questions about themselves and their friends. She was able to recall all of the action verbs and
use them in the appropriate present continuous tense. Although, on one occasion she forgot to use the
present continuous e.g. skip(ping).
She responded to the general questions reasonably well, giving structured responses, albeit, with some minor
inaccuracies, such as, using the bare infinitive where the gerund form was appropriate e.g. I’m good at rid(ing)
a bike. Moreover, she used an adjective instead of a suitable gerund e.g. My friend is good at ‘fast’
