Lexical Range and Accuracy: 5
Pronunciation: 5
Reaction: 6

Overall score: 25/50

Tung Dung only just moved to this class; therefore, he did not actually attend the classes that the test was
designed for.
Dung achieves the task at a basic level. He was able to produce most of the action verbs, needed to describe
the picture and use them in the appropriate present continuous tense. However, he did not use contractions,
which are natural features of spoken discourse e.g. Tom is (Tom’s) He could not respond to the general
questions. However, this is due to lack of exposure and familiarity to the questions themselves. Thus, this test
has more of a function, as a diagnostic test rather than that of an achievement test.

Reaction: 2

Overall score: 10/50

Although believe Chi is very capable, her test performance was below the standard requirement. There are
two major factors affecting the outcome of Chi’s performance. The first factor concerns ‘student reliability’. In
applied linguistics, there has been lots of research into the correlation between learner anxiety, learning and
performance. Therefore, the fact that testing situations increase her anxiety, this can have a big effect on the
reliability of her performance. The other factor is that she is still quite reluctant to engage in many activities,
which of course are absolutely essential for learning to take place.

Recommendations
1. To try to commit to engaging in all the classroom activities
2. To try to view English as a tool for communication and interacting.

Lexical Range and Accuracy: 2
Pronunciation: 2

Overall score: 13/50

Khanh My performance was below the standard requirement. For the most part, she lacked the vocabulary to
carry out the task. She answered the general questions with a little more stability, but were still ery basic
responses containing inaccuracies.
According to the Comprehensible Input Hypothesis in Applied Linguistics, input that is useful for language
acquisition must be neither too difficult nor too easy to understand and ought to be tuned just right to the
learner’s current level, the input has to be slightly beyond the level at which the learners are well proficient.
Research has shown that learners do not benefit from merely putting them on a higher level without taking
the steps to reach that point.
Recommendations
1. To re-evaluate her current proficiency and match her level to the appropriate course.
