3. SHORT-CIRCUIT PROTECTION CHECK

3.1 Short Circuit Currents

In a simplified approach, the impedance of the MV system is assumed to be

negligibly small, so that the maximum short circuit current from inverter to

MV transformer:

Isc = In*100/Usc

= S/1.732/U*100/Ud

= 4.7/1.732/0.8*100/9.5 = 35.6 kA

where,

S capcity of MV transformer, split winding = 4.688 MVA

U LV side voltage of MV transformer = 0.8 kV

Ud impedance voltage of the transformer in % = 9.5%

3.2 Short Circuit Capability

where,

= 94.5 °C

initial temperature of conductor = 90 °C

final temperature of conductor = 250 °C

reciprocal of temperature coefficient of resistivity at 0 °C = 228 °C

for the conductor, as per Table A.54.1, IEC 60364-5-54

as per Table A.54.1, IEC 60364-5-54 = 148

operating time in seconds of the protective device = 0.6 s

for automatic disconnection, it would be used here as
instantaneous time from Tripping Curve of MCCB

so that:

the minimum cross-sectional area = 292 mm2
