MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

1. Yarn - Sport weight yarn (Fine yarn) for cotton+acrylic yarn or Fingering (Super fine yarn)
for 100% cotton yarn

Colors: white (approx. 10g), yellow (approx. 20g), green (approx. 20g), black (approx. 10g),
rusty brown (approx. 20g)

I used:
Schachenmayr Catania (50g/125m, 100% cotton):
white (0106 - weiß)
yellow (0208 - sonne)
green (0419 - tannenbaum)
black (0110 - schwarz)

Scheepjes Catona (50g/125m, 100% cotton):

brown (388 - rust)
2. Crochet hook suitable for your yarn (I used 1.75 mm)
3. Scissors, tapestry needle, pins
4. Stitch marker (I use a piece of yarn)
5. Fiberfill (stuffing)
6. Stuffing tool (I use wooden skewers and tweezers)
7. Wire 1,5 mm - 15 cm
8. A piece of plastic, to make the bottom steady (I use a lid of a plastic container). If you use
heavier yarn, a piece of plastic might not be enough, you might need to add additional weight in
the pot (stones/metal or glass beads)

Decreases
1
In order to make an invisible decrease, insert the hook
only under the FRONT loop of one stitch, then under the
FRONT loop of the second stitch (p.1,2), yarn over and
pull through these two front loops (p.3), yarn over and pull
through two loops left on the hook (p.4).

2 3 4

Color change
Always perform the color change on the second half of the previous stitch. When you
make the last stitch of the previous color: insert the hook, yarn over, pull through (p.5),
pick the new color, yarn over (p.6), pull through both loops on the hook (p.7).

5 6 7

@mrs.crowlet 3
EYES
Work with black yarn.
Ch 3, turn, work from the 2nd ch from hook (p.8) 8
1. 1 sc, 3 sc into the 2nd ch, continue on the other side of the chain, inc (6)

Cut the yarn off leaving a tail 15-20 cm on one eye, and 30-40 cm on
the second eye to weave in the end and sew the eyes on the skull
(we will need the longer end to embroider the nose and mouth).

I use the "straight edge" method to weave in the end. Insert the needle
into the 1st stitch of the row (p.9), pull it out, insert it into the last stitch of
the row (between the front and the back loop of the stitch) (p.10). Pull the needle out, and tighten the
thread (p.11). Do not cut the yarn off.

9 10 11

SKULL
Work with white yarn.

Ch 4, turn, work from the 2nd ch from hook (p.12):

1. 2 sc, 3 sc into the last ch, continue on the other side of the chain, 1 sc, inc (8)
Continue working in spirals starting from the 1st stitch of the previous row (p.13)
2. inc, 1 sc, 3 inc, 1 sc, 2 inc (14)
3. BLO 14 sc (p.14) (14)

12 13 14

@mrs.crowlet 4
4. 14 sc (14)
5. 2 sc, 3 inc, 9 sc (17) 15
6. 3 sc, 4 inc, 10 sc (21)
7. (2 sc, inc) * 4, 9 sc (25)
8. 1 sc, (inc, 3 sc) * 4, inc, 7 sc (30)
9-13. (5 rows) 30 sc (30)
14. (dec, 3 sc) * 6 (24)
15. (dec, 2 sc) * 6 (18) (p.15)

Stuff the skull. Before continuing to close the head, sew the eyes on
and embroider the nose and mouth.

Pin the eyes between rows 7 and 10, slightly tilted as shown in the p.16. First, sew the eye with a short
yarn end, grabbing a small stitch on the head and a stitch on the eye (as shown in the p.17,18). After
finishing pull the needle out at the top of the head (p.19). Sew the second eye, use the same thread for
embroidering.
Pull the needle out between the eyes (between rows 7 and 8) and embroider the nose as shown in the
p.20-22. Pull the needle out 2 rows under the eye and 3 stitches left from the nose (p.23,24).

16 17 18

19 20 21

22 23 24

@mrs.crowlet 5
Embroider the line of the mouth, the width of the stitch is 5 sc (p.25).
Make 4 small stitches crossing the main mouth line. Pull the needle 25
out 1 row above the line and 1 stitch to the right (p.26). Insert it back
2 rows down (1 row under the mouth) and pull it out 1 stitch to the
right (p.27). After making 4 lines, pull the needle out at the top of the
head (p.28). Tie 2 ends together a few times, cut off the ends leaving
about 1 cm (p.29). Hide the ends inside the head. Stuff the head
firmly.

Continue crocheting.

26 27 28

29 30 31

16. (dec, 1 sc) * 6 (12)

17. 6 dec (6)

Cut the yarn off leaving a tail for closing the opening. Insert the yarn tail into a needle, go under the
front loops of all 6 sc (p.31), and tighten the thread. If tightened loops stick out a little (like in the p.32),
pull the thread out at the back of the head, pull a little, the top of the head will become flat. Fasten off.

19-20. (2 rows) FLO 48 sc (p.42) (48)
21-22. (2 rows) 48 sc (48)

40 41 42

@mrs.crowlet 7
Cut the yarn off leaving a tail 15-20 cm to weave in the end.
I use the "straight edge" method.

43 44
Skip one stitch and insert the
needle into the 2nd one (p.44),
pull it out. Insert the needle into
the last stitch of the row (between
the front and the back loop of the
stitch) (p.45).
Pull the needle out, tighten the
thread, weave in the end (p.46).

45 46 47

Fold the last 3 rows down as shown in the p.47.

LEAVES (make 2)

Work with green yarn.

Leaves will be worked in rows with
48 49
a turning chain. Turning chain
does not count as a stitch.

Ch 2, turn, work from the 2nd ch

from hook (p.48):
1. inc, ch, turn (2)
2. 2 inc, ch, turn (4)
3. inc, 2 sc, inc, ch, turn (6)

6. inc, 6 sc, inc, ch, turn (10) 51
50
7-16. (10 rows) 10 sc, ch, turn (10)

Make regular decreases on leaves

instead of invisible ones: pull a
loop through one stitch, pull a loop
through the next stitch (p.50), yarn
over, pull through 3 loops on the
hook (p.51).

@mrs.crowlet 8
17. dec, 6 sc, dec, ch, turn (8)
18. 8 sc, ch, turn (8)
52
19. dec, 4 sc, dec, ch, turn (6)
20. 6 sc (p.52) (6)

Continue crocheting around (each row stands for 1 stitch):

19 sc along the side part (p.53,54),

1 sc into the base chain (p.55),

53 54 55

Ch 2, sl st into the 2nd ch from hook (p.56), 1 sc into the base chain (p.57),
19 sc along the side part (p.58,59), sl st into the first stitch of the last row (p.60).

Cut the yarn off leaving a tail 30-40 cm for sewing.

1. 6 sc in a MR (6)
2. 6 sc (6)
3. (inc, 1 sc) * 3 (9)
4. (inc, 2 sc) * 3 (12)
5. (inc, 1 sc) * 6 (18)
6-9. (4 rows) 18 sc (18)
10. (dec, 1 sc) * 6 (p.62) (12)

For 4 petals: cut the yarn off and weave in the end. Do not cut the yarn on the last petal, continue to
crochet.

FLOWER
1. Flatten the petal, crochet 6 sc through both sides (p.63,64). Attach the second petal, flatten it and
make 6 sc through both sides (p.65). This way connect all 5 petals (p.66). Continue crocheting in spirals
starting from the 1st stitch on the 1st petal.
2. FLO 30 sc (p.67) (30)

Change the color of yarn to green, cut off yellow yarn leaving 30-40 cm to sew the skull inside the
flower.
3-6. (4 rows) 30 sc (30)

37. (inc, 5 sc) * 5 (35)
38. (inc, 6 sc) * 5 (p.71,72) (40)

Cut the yarn off leaving a tail about 50 cm for sewing.

70 71 72

ASSEMBLING
Measure the amount of wire you will need. The wire should go inside the flower and have ends on both
sides: about 2 cm on the upper side (to go inside the skull) and 3-4 cm end on the bottom side (to go
inside the pot and make the construction steadier) (p.73). I needed 15 cm.
Bend these ends as shown in p.74 (upper side) and p.75 (bottom side).

73 74 75

@mrs.crowlet 11
To easier insert wire inside the skull, we will need to widen a hole in the
middle of the back of the skull (between rows 11 and 12), I use 76
tweezers, insert them between the stitches and widen the hole (p.76,77)

Insert the loop of the wire inside the skull (p.78). Insert the skull inside
the flower (p.79), I like when 1 petal is right above the head (p.80), but
you can choose a different placement.

77 78 79

Use yellow yarn end left from crocheting the petals to sew the skull to the flower. In case you have
fastened off yellow yarn, just attach a new piece of yarn to the inner part of the flower, we will need
30-40 cm. Grab a stitch on the skull (p.81), grab a back loop on the 2nd row of the flower (p.82), and
continue sewing around. Weave in the yarn end.

80 81 82

Cut out a piece of plastic to fit the bottom of the pot (p.83), it will help to make it steady. If your plastic is
too flexible, cut out 2 or 3 pieces and put them together. I have 2 (p.84). Put it inside the pot (p.85).

83 84 85

@mrs.crowlet 12
Stuff the pot. Insert the flower inside (p.86) and sew the front loops of the soil to the inner side of the
pot - to the back loops of 19th row (p.87). As we have 48 back loops left on the inner side of the pot and
40 loops in the last row of the soil, we will skip each 6th loop of the pot (p.88). Add stuffing to the pot as
you go.

Fasten off and weave in the end.

86 87 88

Bend the stem as shown in the p.89.

89
Pin the leaves on the last row of the stem, one leaf should cover a little
of the other one (just a few millimeters) (p.90,91). Sew the leaves onto
the stem (p.92,93).

Shape the leaves with your fingers: first, bend the leaves inside (p.94),
and then bend outside only the upper part of the leaves (p.95).
