● Sometimes when the word
or is connecting words, it
shows that the word after
it is another word similar to
it.
● That means another
definition for absorb is “to
hold” because on page 9 it
says”
○ Or hold sunlight

● Find the word separate on page 15. Let’s echo read the
sentence together!
● Separate means “not connected or attached”
○ Count how many leaves are separated from the tree in
the illustration on pages 14–15.
Reread the Text for Answers
● We noticed so many things about
the text in the last lesson but we
also had many questions!
● Today we are going to reread the
text to find the answers to the
wonders on our chart
○ Choose one or two of the
wonders on our chart that you
want to listen and look for the
answer during our read aloud

essential idea

● Conclusion will be similar
to the topic statement
since the topic statement
introduces the essential
idea of the paragraph!
● For a conclusion, you will
say the essential idea
again in a different way
at the end.

○ In fall, some animals get ready for cold
weather. Squirrels collect food for winter.
They hide nuts and acorns. With this
stored food, they will have enough food
for the winter. Fall is a busy time for
squirrels as they prepare for winter.

● A prefix is a small word part
● When the prefix un– is added to the beginning of a
base word, it changes the base word’s meaning.
● The prefix changes the meaning of the base word curl
to mean "not curled."
