称之为 “使本王国财 富增加” (increasing the wealth of the kingdom) 的家庭 , 另一类 是收入不
敷支出 , “使本王国财富减少” (decreasing the wealth of the kingdom)的家庭 。

T.麦卡弗里说 :“极度贫困是一半以上人口的命运” ;

in the spring of 1946 .The Communist army , though much weaker than its rival , unexpectedly held Siping
Jie for a month .Although they withdrew in defeat , the KMT was pinned down by the Communist army on the
Central Plain and in the southern part of Manchuria and was hence unable to take advantage of the victory to
send its forces northward .As a result , Lin Biao was able to occupy northern Manchuria and make a
comeback .
The US Muckraking Movement :Popular Magazines , Progressive Intellectuals and Public Opinion
Xiao Huafeng (164)
Progressive intellectuals who were deeply concerned about the manifold social problems emerging in the
US in the early 20th century launched a campaign of exposés which historians have termed the muckraking
movement .During the decade that the movement lasted , flourishing popular magazines took an active role in
muckraking .Muckrakers , most of whom were progressive intellectuals , used news reports and cultural
critiques to expose scandals .The movement gained strong support from the American middle classes , and
indeed shaped “democratic public” and “public opinion” in the US .
