8.12 TELECOMMUNICATION:

The Communication requirements of the Railway are met by Railway Owned

 Optical Fibre System.(24 fibre and composite cable)
 Ring Protected E1 Long Haul Channels obtained from RailTel
 Underground telecom PIJF, RE & 4/6 Quad cable of various capacities.
 Channels rented from BSNL / MTNL (9.6 Kbps, 64 Kbps and 2 MB).
 Overhead alignment hired from BSNL.

8.13 UNDERGROUND RE AND QUAD CABLES:

RE &Quad Cablesare being used for Train Control Circuits, Traction Power Control,
Traction Loco Control, Emergency Control and other Signaling Operation like BPAC,
Block Circuits etc.Underground cable of various types viz.0+12+2(RE), 4 Quad, 6
Quad andComposite Quad Cableis laid on all Important Routes of Western Railway.
These cables are owned and maintained by Western Railway.

8.13.1 SAILENT FEATURES OF UNDERGROUND QUAD CABLE:

8.13.2 TRANSFER OF CONTROL / BLOCK CIRCUITS FROM RENTED BSNL

LINE TO RAILWAY OFC / QUAD CABLE.

During the current financial year 2021–22 NIL Route Kms have been transferred
on OFC or 4/6 quad cables from overhead alignment hired from BSNL.

However detailed below sections working on Quad/RE cable have been diverted on
OFC to improve reliability of control working.

Rajkot division:Surendra Nagar –Dhrangadhra (34Kms)sections control have

been transferred from Quad Cable to OFC.

8.15 RAILNET& INTERNET

8.15.1 RAILNET and INTERNET has been provided on Western Railway Headquarters
office and all divisions with around 12254 active connections. Western Railway
Headquarters and divisions have been connected on internet & intranet through
RailTel MPLS network of bandwidth 512Mbps.

8.15.2 In Divisions, Broad- Band connectivity for Railnet/Internet have been extended to
remote locations through DSLAM’s provided at 72location with ultimate capacity of
5548with 3825active connections.

been trained at Signal Training School / Sabarmati.

8.20.2 PORTABLE CONTROL TELEPHONES:

Portable control telephone (PCT) has been made standard safety break van
equipment in all passenger trains originating from Western Railway, thus
eliminating the practice of loading/unloading of PCT in between theJourney of train.

8.20.3 VHF SETS FOR GUARDS AND DRIVERS:

25 Watt VHF sets are provided at all Stations over Western Railway and 5 Watt
VHF sets have been issued being issued to Guard and Driver as personalized
equipment of a Train for providing communication facility between Guard, Driver
andstation Master of nearest stations.

8.20.4 Help Line for Public

139 have been opened as Commercial Help Line Number.

182 have been opened as Security Help Line Number with 21 active lines
(pilot Numbers) over Western Railway.
