Plan of Action and Activities for the Month of Reading - November 2023

Objective: To promote a love for reading and enhance literacy skills among the students of
Marbel Elementary School.

Week 1: Reading Launch Week


- Organize a virtual assembly to kick off the month of reading.
- Invite a local author or storyteller to conduct a virtual reading session for students of various
grade levels.
- Introduce the theme for the month and explain the importance of reading in various aspects of
life.
- Distribute reading logs or journals to track students' reading progress throughout the month.

Week 2: Reading Workshops and Book Talks


- Conduct interactive reading workshops for students in each grade, focusing on different
reading strategies and skills.
- Invite guest speakers such as teachers, parents, or community members to conduct book
talks, sharing their favorite books and inspiring stories.
- Set up reading corners in classrooms and the library, displaying a wide range of books on
different topics and genres.
- Encourage students to participate in a book swap and share their favorite books with their
peers.

Week 3: Reading Challenges and Competitions


- Launch a reading challenge, where students will set personal reading goals for the month and
track their progress.
- Organize a book review competition, where students can write or record reviews of their
favorite books.
- Conduct a "Book Character Dress-Up Day," allowing students to come to school dressed as
their favorite book characters.
- Organize a reading-themed quiz or trivia competition, testing students' knowledge of famous
books and authors.

Week 4: Reading Celebration and Culminating Event


- Host a virtual author visit or storytelling session by a renowned children's author.
- Organize a "Readathon" day, where students and teachers will spend a designated time
reading independently.
- Invite parents and the community to a virtual book fair, where they can purchase books for
their children.
- Conduct a closing ceremony to celebrate students' reading achievements throughout the
month, awarding certificates and prizes to top participants.

Throughout the month:


- Encourage teachers to allocate dedicated time for independent reading in their daily
schedules.
- Collaborate with the school librarian to recommend age-appropriate books for each grade
level.
- Share reading-related resources and activities over the school's communication platforms.
- Promote reading challenges, book clubs, and online discussions to foster a sense of reading
community.
