Deputy Head’s Newsletter

Issue 002 - 10 November 2023

Meet the team

This week, we introduce our Head Boy and

Head Girl. They really do lead by example
and they both play such an important role
in school. During a recent interview, they
spoke about their job, themselves and
what they wish to achieve.

Head Girl (Elina)

Q: Tell me a little about yourself?

A: In my free time I love to sing. I also really enjoy baking, my speciality is chocolate
chip cookies with a soft gooey middle. When I have time, I ensure that I spend
quality time with my family and friends. At Bronte, I am part of the Debating Club
and I enjoy thinking on my feet and constructing clever responses. At home, I
sometimes even debate with my sister!
Q: Tell me about your roles at Bronte?
A: I was really shocked when Mrs Wood announced that
I was going to be Head Girl. My older sister previously
held the position of Prefect, so I have someone I can
always count on at home to help me. I’m also a
Playleader, I love teaching the younger children games
and working with my friends to make the playground a
welcoming place for everyone. I also work with Mrs
Green as a Reading Guru, listening to the younger
children read, to promote a love of reading at Bronte.

Q: So far, what is your proudest moment in Year 6?

A: For our Harvest Appeal this year, we collected lots
of food for our local food bank. It was fantastic to see
how our collection would help the local community. Well
done Bronte!

Q: This year, what do you hope to achieve as Head Girl?

A: When I move on to secondary school, I want to leave
knowing that I have done my very best.

for more photos and videos….

Head Boy (Luke)

Q: Tell me a little about yourself?

A: I love football, I play for a club and my Dad is our coach. I support Spurs, this
year they are doing really well (so far). In fact, I like every type of sport and
really enjoy learning new skills and techniques. My brother is currently doing his
GCSE’s, he tells me all about the history topics he covers at school. We then
spend time researching and exploring these events together. I am also really
good at coding and like making my own games in my free time.

Q: Tell me about your roles at Bronte?

A: I was so proud to be given the job of Head Boy, my family were very pleased
for me too. Being Head Boy keeps me very busy! I’m also a Maths Ambassador,
helping younger children with their maths. I had to write an application letter and
have a interview with Mrs Durkin. I believe that everyone is a mathematician. At
breaktime, I work with Mrs Salter and Mrs Hine on the playground and in the
garden. As a Playleader, I help the younger children invent new games and make
sure that everybody always has someone to play with.

Q: So far, what is your proudest moment in Year 6?

A: I was proud to help organise and run an election for the whole school during
Pupil Parliament Week.

Q: This year, what do you hope to achieve as

Head Boy?

A: I would like to fill my tie entirely with

badges. I’m only joking, instead I want to
represent my school in many different
ways and make the most of the opportunities
at Bronte.

Pupil Parliament Week

This week, Pupil Parliament hosted a

special election at Bronte in honour of
UK Parliament Week. Pupil Parliament
have already been very busy collecting
suggestions from their peers to discuss
during our regular meetings. This year,
the Digital Leaders led a special
assembly talking about the drawbacks
and benefits of having a mobile phone.
They tried to present a balanced
argument so that the children would
have clear and unbiased information.
The school then voted on the following
motion, ‘should children in primary
school have their own phone?’

On Wednesday, Pupil Parliament set up

the hall turning it into an official
looking polling booth. Each class was
taken down to the hall and the process
explained to them prior to starting.
Aadya ensured that each person had
voted after confirming their name,
class and address. Chloe and Harveer
then made sure that the ballot boxes
were secure and that each person had
privacy while choosing their preference.

On Friday morning, the boxes were

opened up and the votes counted. On
Monday, we will announce the results
during our assembly! Our Pupil
Parliament would like to thank everyone
who took part this week and they wish
to remind us all about the importance
of democracy and free speech.

Book fair

What building has the most stories? The library.

This week in school, we have been running our annual Book Fair.
It was a great success. Thank you to all the parents and children
who visited us. It was a joy to see so many children at Bronte
School excited about buying new books. A special thank you to
Mrs Green’s Reading Gurus who were an amazing help!

Maths in Year 3

Year 3 have been

practising their skills in
mental and written
addition. They enjoyed
playing a fun game called
‘Rubbish Bin’. The game
involves rolling a die and
deciding whether to keep
the digit or put it in the
rubbish bin. The person
with the highest total
was the winner!

A special talk

William in Year 3 shared his passion for computing with his peers.
William showed us his wonderful model airplanes that he had designed
by himself and then printed using his very own 3D printer! The class
really enjoyed his creations and the way in which William went into
great technical detail. Following on for this, the class discussed the
future of 3D printing and the way in which it could solve many current
issues. Did you know that they can even print food? William should be
very proud of the confident and knowledgeable manner in which he
spoke.

Festival of light

This week, Kindergarten celebrated

Diwali. They had lots of fun making
divas, trying traditional Indian sweets
and dressing up. They also enjoyed
doing lots of bhangra dancing.

Brushing up on our dental

knowledge!

This week, Reception learnt

all about how to keep their
teeth strong and pearly
white. Nurse Katie spoke
about the importance of
oral hygiene and the
children went over how to
brush their teeth correctly.
Don’t forget to brush the
back of your teeth just as
carefully as the front!

Is it a solid or a liquid?

It's both!

This week in Science Club we made '‘non-newtonian

fluid’. This mixture of cornflour and water does not follow the
normal rules of physics. We discovered that it acts like a
liquid when being poured but like a solid when force is
applied.

As you can see our young Scientists had messy fun playing
catch with a ‘solid’ ball and then watching it run
through their fingers as a liquid. If you would like
to try this at home please follow the recipe below.

Recipe
75g cornflour
50 - 60 ml cold water
Food colouring is (optional)

Mrs Lonergan and Mrs Lippard would love to hear about it or

see your photos.

Remembrance Day

Year 6 should be very proud of their class

assembly this week; it was a poignant
production that reflected on the importance
of remembering those who gave the ultimate
sacrifice. Each member of the class spoke
with real dignity and poise. The singing and
performance was excellent too.

All week the Year 6 team has been taking

collections and handing out poppies so that
Bronte can remember the fallen.

Mrs Wood

We have been missing a very

important person at school
and this week the children
decided to make some
wonderful cards for Mrs
Wood.

As you know she is

recovering from an operation
and recovering well. She is
up on her feet and slightly
slower than usual, she is
forward to returning to
school before the end of the
term.

Mrs Wood was delighted to

receive your cards and she
sends her deepest
appreciation to the children
at Bronte.
