SONG HAU 1 THERMAL POWER PLANT PROJECT

1.0 SCOPE
This procedure covers the methods adopted by the LILAMA 45.1 Company for
producing the Qualification of Welding Personnel.

The Welder will be welding for fabrication Turbine steel tructures of Song Hau 1
thermal power plant

3.0 INTRODUCTION.
3.1 The Company will provide welding that is of a high quality and capable of
achieving the required properties for the intended application, this will be
confirmed by producing a Welding Procedure Qualification Record, (PQR) that will
follow the guidelines set by the Clients nominated specification and comply with
AWS D1.1 standard Requirements.
3.2 Following the successful completion of PQR to cover the full scope of work
associated with the Project, the required number of Welding Procedure
Specifications (WPS) can be generated to comply with the range of weld
applications involved in the fabrication and erection activities.
3.3 In compliance with WPS parameters, Welder Qualification test will be
programmed and executed, resulting in the issue to the Welder, upon successful
completion, of a Welder Qualification List
Methods of producing the documents notes in this introduction are laid out in this
Procedure.

4.0 EXECUTION OF WELDER QUALIFICATION TESTS

4.1 Each welder forwarded for test should possess a good level of welding experience
and preferably will have held trade qualifications previously.
4.2 Welders will be given the opportunity to spend a small amount of time on a pre-
test practice prior to being allocated a test stamp, in order to familiarize
themselves with plant, equipment and environment.

4.3 Following the lead-in period the welder will be issued with test coupons. These
coupons shall be prepared to a condition ready for test and tacked to meet the
joint configuration requirements given on the WPS. Tacking method can be either
by bridge, root or affixing temporary attachments, whichever is company
preference.
4.4 The test piece will then be, Inspected and set into the pre-determined welding
position and held into place with either a clamp or by tacking.
4.5 Pre-heating will then be applied to reach the required temperature and monitored
with temperature crayon or digital thermometer.
4.6 Once the pre-heat has been achieved welding shall commence in compliance with
the selected WPS to completion or to a level where second side welding may be
required, should the preparation be of a double side configuration, excavation and
NDE will be required prior to second side welding.
4.7 Once the weld is fully completed final Inspection will take place by the Inspector/s
and when accepted will be forwarded for NDE ( RT)
4.8 Records will be maintained throughout the test/ Inspection processes and made
available for review by the QC manager , upon request.
