PEB Structures
Pre-Engineered Building (PEB)
Introduction
➢ Metal buildings composed of steel sections that are
engineered at a factory to satisfy a wide range of structural
and aesthetic requirements. These sections are assembled
on site.
➢ The concept of PEB is the frame geometry which matches
the shape of the internal stress (bending moment) diagram
thus optimizing material usage and reducing the total
weight of the structure.
➢ The complete designing is done at the factory and the
building components are brought to the site in knock down
condition. These components are then fixed/ jointed at the
site and raised with the help of cranes.
Pre-Engineered Building (PEB)
Introduction
➢ PEMB consists of a complete steel-framed building system, with components pre-designed to fit together
in a vast variety of combinations to meet the unique requirements of specific end uses.
➢ Pre-Engineered Buildings can be adapted to suit a wide variety of structural applications.
➢ An efficiently designed Pre-Engineered Building can be lighter that the conventional steel buildings by up
to 30%.
➢ Pre-engineered buildings are ideal for any non-residential low-rise building.
➢ Tailor made building based on client’s requirement & actual design calculations using tapered sections.
➢ Designing and casting is done in factory, building components are brought to site then fixed/jointed at the
site. All connections are bolted.
➢ These are the structures basically produced at the factory with high tensile steel material by collecting
complete information of the building (viz; Length, Width, Height etc,).
➢ The entire design of column, rafters and other accessories is based on International structural standards
and involve high technical welding and quality production
Pre-Engineered Building (PEB)
Components of PEB:
➢ Primary members or Main Frames: Columns & Rafters
➢ Secondary members or Cold Formed Members: Purlins & Girts
➢ Roof and wall sheeting connected to each other and various other building components.
➢ Accessories, Crane systems, Mezzanine systems, etc.
➢ Can be provided with different structural and non-structural additions such as
➢ skylights,
➢ wall lights,
➢ turbo vents,
➢ ridge ventilators, louvers, roof monitors,
➢ doors & windows,
➢ fascias, canopies, insulation etc., based on the customer’s requirements.
➢ PEB’s are ideal for non-residential and wide-span low-rise buildings (maximum eave height can go up to
25 to 30 metres).
Pre-Engineered Building (PEB)
Primary members or Main Frames
✓ These are the main load carrying and support members of a pre-engineered building.
✓ The main frame members include columns, rafters and other supporting members (Crane Beams, Mezzanine
Systems, Trusses, etc.).
✓ The shape and size of these members vary based on the application and requirements.
✓ The frame is erected by bolting the end plates of connecting sections together.

Pre-Engineered Building (PEB)
✓ Eave Strut - located along the sidewall; at the intersection of the planes of the
roof and wall. Made from cold formed C-Section and is rolled to suit the roof
slope. This member transmits longitudinal wind force on the end walls from
roof brace rods to wall brace rods.

Cable Bracing:
This member is designed to ensure
stability of the building against forces in
the longitudinal and lateral direction
due to wind, cranes and earthquakes.
