Unit 5 – What are you doing?

Vocabulary – Telling Time

What time is it? What’s the time?

8:00 A.M. - A) It’s eight A.M. B) It’s eight o’clock in the morning. /its-éit-éi jem/
9:05 A.M. - A) It’s nine, oh, five A.M. B) It’s nine-oh-five in the morning.
12:00 P.M. – A) It’s twelve P.M. B) It’s noon.
1:10 P.M. – A) It’s one, ten P.M. B) It’s one, ten in the afternoon. C) It’s ten (minutes) after one.
2:15 P.M. – A) It’s two, fifteen in the afternoon. B) It’s a quarter after two in the afternoon.
7:30 P.M. – A) It’s seven, thirty in the evening/at night. B) It’s half past seven.
8:40 P.M. – A) It’s eight, forty in the evening/at night. B) It’s twenty (minutes) to nine.
9:45 P.M. – A) It’s nine, forty-five in the evening/at night. B) It’s a quarter to ten.
10:55 P.M. – A) It’s ten, fifty-five in the evening/at night. B) It’s five (minutes) to eleven.
12:00 A.M. – A) It’s twelve A.M. B) It’s midnight.

Grammar- The Present Continuous

Use the present continuous to describe actions in progress in the present

Affirmative Negative

I’m working right now. I’m not working right now.


You’re studying English now. You’re not studying English now.
He’s watching TV at the moment. He’s not watching TV at the moment.
She’s cleaning her bedroom right now. She’s not cleaning her bedroom.
It’s raining. It’s not raining.
We’re playing tennis. We’re not playing Tennis.
They’re using the computer. They’re not using the computer.
Form: Subject + am/is/are (not) + verb +ing + complements

Spelling Rules
- Speak – Speaking
- Run – Running / Shop – Shopping
- Have – Having / make – making / dance – dancing.

Wh-Questions

What are you doing now? I’m ________________.


What’s he doing? He’s ________________.
What’s she doing? She’s ________________.
What are they doing? They’re ________________.
Where are you going? I’m going to the mall.
Who are you going with? I’m going with my friend Helen.

Form: Wh-Word + am/is/are – Subject + verb + ing + (Complements) + ?
Questions with WHO/What as Subject

Who’s studying English right now? – We are (studying English right now).
Who’s cleaning the house? My sister is.
What’s happening here? We’re cleaning the house, Mom.
What’s going on? It’s raining heavily. / It’s raining cats and dogs.
Form: Who/What + IS + Verb + ING + (Complements) + ?
