NOVEMBER 2023

FORMAL DEBATES MATCH-UP


PROCEDURE:
The final oral exam will consist of formal debates. In these debates, teams
of students will argue about important topics and showcase their fluency
and proficiency at the end of the advanced level.
WHEN? PROCEDURE COMMENT
FIRST WEEK STUDENTS WILL FORM Just 3 or four members.

go against their counterparts
from other classrooms on the
same final day.
IMPORTANT FOR THE FINAL
DEBATE: Opposing teams
need to agree beforehand
which team is going to be the
Affirmative and which the
Negative.
THURSDAY NOVEMBER FINAL DEBATE MATCH. All the ranked groups go
30th. against each other in the final
showdown. Teachers should
change classroom.

GUIDELINES
The FINAL Oral evaluation for this ADVANCED level will assess the ability of students to use a
wide range of grammar structures and vocabulary according to the Students Learning
Outcomes of the level. Students need to show their ability to express ideas, concepts and
coherent discourse applied on specific communicative data.

The distribution of the topics must be done immediately, so that students have time
to study the topic and give informed opinions on the subject matter and use them in the
DEBATE PLAY-OFFS every Friday.

FORMAT:

• TEACHERS MUST CHANGE THEIR HABITUAL CLASSROOMS.


• THE DEBATES MUST BE HELD IN FRONT OF THE CLASS.
• ALL STUDENTS NEED TO REMAIN IN CLASS AFTER THEY FINISH THEIR DEBATES
BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS TO VOTE.

12. Should fast food be banned to combat obesity?
13. Is social media more harmful than beneficial for society?
14. Should exams be eliminated from formal education?
15. Is it ethical to use animals for scientific experiments?
16. Is it important to have a college degree to be successful in life?
17. Should the death penalty be abolished worldwide?

19. Is it fair to tax the wealthy at a higher rate than the rest of the population?
