This is the art that appeals to the visual sense and may be
constructed using varied mediums. Visual art takes a

2. LITERARY ARTS

• This art form denotes “letters” or literature which


came from the Latin word “littera” meaning “an
individual written character”.

• Examples are the following:


prose, poetry and drama which may include varied
genre such as fiction and non-fiction.
3. PERFORMING ARTS
• The art that involves creative activity that is
performed and delivered in front of spectators.

• This form of art which may be purposive of


entertaining its audience may include dance,
theatre, music, mime and opera.

The development of the Philippine arts comes in three
major traditions. These are the Ethnic Tradition,
Spanish Colonial Tradition, and American Colonial
and Contemporary Arts Traditions.
Ethnic Tradition
Art forms are primarily influenced by the geographical location
and the experiences of the Filipinos.

Manunggul jar is a burial jar which
signifies the belief of early Filipino in
life after death.
Spanish Colonial Tradition
Art forms were primarily influenced by religion and secularization. In this time,
Spaniards used arts to propagate the Catholic faith.

original structure was built in
1574 and replaced as a church
in 1641.
Modern Art
Modern Art refers to the practice of art from 1860s to 1960s. the
main theme of art works in this time is national identity.
