12/20 (24) kV cables

Cables shall comply with the following Standards:

 IEC 60502-2: Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated voltages from 1
kV (Um = 1,2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36 kV) - Part 2: Cables for rated voltages from 6 kV (Um = 7,2
kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36 kV)
 Indonesian and/or PLN standards

a) Cable structure:
 Cable core
The cable core is made of copper fibers which are twisted into concentric layers and round cross
section. The surface of the conductor core is not allowed appearance of visible defects such as
chips, etc. which can be seen by the naked eyes. The cable core shall be protected from axial
waterproof.
Waterproof system: The waterproof compound shall be arranged among fibers and around fibers
of the cable core, in order to avoid penetration of water inside fibers, along fibers, avoid erosion.
The compound is not allowed to decrease the electromechanical properties of accessories as well
as contact between accessories and the cable core. It is not necessary to use any tools or special
solvent to install accessories of underground cable.
 Interior semiconductor layer
The semiconductor layer is arranged between the cable core and the insulation layer XLPE in order
to balance impact of the electric field on the insulation layer XLPE, made from the non-metallic
semiconductor materials. This semiconductor layer shall surround closely and directly each cable
core.
 Insulation layer XLPE
Insulation layer XLPE withstands impact of ultraviolet ray and all environmental factors.
The average thickness of the insulation layer must not be less than the specified nominal thickness.
The maximum and minimum thickness at any points must not exceed regulation of standard IEC
60502-2.
 Exterior insulation semiconductor layer
Exterior insulation semiconductor layer between the insulation layer XLPE and the nonmagnetic
metal membrane shall be made from the nonmagnetic semiconductor materials, maybe a
semiconductor strip or the semiconductor layer shaped by extruding or combining both of above
forms. This insulation semiconductor layer shall surround closely and directly each cable core.
Exterior insulation semiconductor layer must ensure adherence on the surface of the insulation
layer XLPE and ensure requirements of trial detachment capability under Article 19.21 of standard
IEC 60502-2.
 Nonmagnetic metal membrane
Nonmagnetic metal membrane consists of one or several copper strips surrounding closely
each separate core.
 Interior casing and bulking agent
The interior casing can be made by extruding or lap-winding.
The gap between the cores and the interior case shall be filled with bulking agent. The
bulking agent must be made from soft fiber PP.
The interior casing and bulking agent shall be made from the proper materials which are
suitable with working temperature of cable and equivalent to the permitted working
temperature of the insulation layer XLPE.
The thickness of interior casing is formed with extruding mode in accordance with the
following specifications;
Thickness of reeling-formed sheath (lap-type) shall be 0.4mm, if the core diameter is ≤ 40mm;
while it shall be 0.6mm, if the nominal diameter is >40mm.
 Protection layer against mechanical impact
Protection layer against mechanical impact shall be a round or flat galvanized-steel wire or two
galvanized-steel strip layers
 Exterior protection casing
Exterior protection casing shall be PVC plastic (polyetylen or equivalent material) or vulcanized
elastic compound (polycloropren, clorosulphonat polyetylen or equivalent material). The material
of casing shall be proper with working temperature of cable and XLPE insulation layer.

b) Specifications of 20kV cables

20kV cables shall satisfy the following major specifications:

c) Cable test
MV cables shall be included sufficiently with the type-test reports prepared by an independent
testing company as well as the in-factory test report prepared by the manufacturer. The tested
work-items shall be compliance with IEC60502-2.
2. Low voltage cables
This part specifies the construction, dimensions and test requirements of power cables with extruded solid
insulation for rated voltages of 1 kV (Um = 1,2 kV) for fixed installations.
Cables must be manufactured, tested according to the standard or equivalent standards as below.
 IEC 60228: Conductors of Insulated Cables
 IEC 60502-1: Power cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for rated
voltages from 1 kV (Um = 1,2 kV) up to 30 kV (Um = 36 kV) - Part 1: Cables for rated
voltages of 1 kV (Um = 1,2 kV) and 3 kV (Um = 3,6 kV)
 Indonesian and/or PLN standards
a) Rated voltage
The rated voltages U0/U (Um) of the cables are 0,6/1 (1,2) kV.
Where:
U0 is the rated power frequency voltage between conductor and earth or metallic screen for which
the cable is designed;
U is the rated power frequency voltage between conductors for which the cable is designed;
Um is the maximum value of the "highest system voltage'' for which the equipment may be used.
b) Conductor temperatures
The conductors shall be copper in accordance with IEC 60228.
The maximum conductor temperatures for different types of insulating compound given in Table
below:

c) Insulation
The insulation shall be extruded dielectric of one of XLPE or PVC. Detail information of wire and
cable insulation is shown in related documents.
The nominal insulation thicknesses are specified in following Tables:

The sheath of all cables shall be free from defects and impervious to water.
d) Cable tests
LV cables shall be included sufficiently with the type-test reports prepared by an independent
testing company as well as the in-factory test report prepared by the manufacturer. The tested
work-items shall be compliance with IEC60502-1.
