Although there are plenty of festivals which partly symbolise the Vienamese culture, the event

considered to play a prime role in which I was born is undoubtedly Tet.

In my region, it is essential to do certain things in anticipation of such occasion. To begin with, there has
to be an apricot blossom arranged on in the yard, or in the house to prepare for such event. Then, we
need to cook traditional food such as “banh chung”, “banh giay”. Another essential stage is to buy new
clothes with brilliant colours, namely red, yellow, etc, as these colours are believed to bring good
fortune for family.

After having finished the abovementioned “to-do list”, it is about time to enjoy the festival. For children,
they will be are given lucky money from their relatives as a wish for the subsequent smooth year. For
adults, this is a special occasion to gather all of the members of their family who have gone through a
period of time of distance to return home and experience a sensational Tet, which is its main meaning

In conclusion, I believe that Tet is irreplaceable in our cultural life, as it is the time when we can relax
and make time for our relatives.
