Houses and streets are often decorated with twinkling lights, festive decorations and Christmas
trees. Nativity scenes or mangers are also common, representing the birth of Jesus.

Exchanging gifts is an important part of Christmas. Many people give and receive gifts as an
expression of love, friendship and generosity, in line with the gift of the Three Wise Men to
Jesus.

In many Western cultures, Father Christmas (also known as Santa Claus) is an important figure
associated with gift-giving. Other traditions include figures such as the Baby Jesus, the Three
Wise Men or Saint Nicholas.
