FIITJEE INTERNAL TEST

C.B.S.E. TEST – IV
PHYSICS Forthcoming
Exam – Big Bang
Class – XII Edge Test on 22nd
and 29th Oct.
2023.
Maximum Marks: 30 Time Allowed: 1 hour

General Instructions:
(i) There are 11 questions in all. All Questions are compulsory.
(ii) This question paper has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.
(iii) Section A contains four questions of 2 marks each, Section B contains two questions of
3 marks each, Section C contains two question of 5 mark each. In Section D contains one case
study (paragraph) having 3 questions objective single correct option 2 marks each question.
(iv) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided. You have to
attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(v) You may use log tables if necessary but use of calculator is not allowed.

SECTION-A

1. Define the terms 'Magnetic Dip' and 'Magnetic Declination' with the help of relevant
diagrams.

2. A circular coil of radius 8 cm and 20 turns rotates about its vertical diameter with an angular
speed of 50 s-1 in a uniform horizontal magnetic field of magnitude 3 x 10-2 T. Find the
maximum and average value of the emf induced in the coil.

3. Two capacitors of capacitance of 6uF and 12uF are connected in series with a battery. The
voltage across the 6uF capacitor is 2 V. Compute the total battery voltage.

Or

A parallel plate capacitor with air between the plates has a capacitance of 8pF. The
separation between the pates is now reduced by half and the space between them is filled
with a medium of dielectric constant 5. Calculate the value of capacitance of the capacitor in
the second case.

4. Define self-inductance of a coil. Show that magnetic energy required to build up the current I
1
in a coil of self inductance L is given by LI2 .

SECTION-B
5. Å town situated 60 km away from a power plant generating power at 440 V, requires 400 kW
of electric power at 220 V. The resistance of the two wire line carrying power is 0.25  per
km. The town gets power from the line through a 3000 - 220 V step down transformer at a
substation in the town. (i) Find the line power losses in the form of heat.
(ii) How much power must the plant supply, assuming there is negligible power loss due to
leakage?

Or
Define mutual inductance and give its S. I. unit. Derive an express on for the mutual
inductance of two long coaxial solenoids of same length wound one over the other.

6. (a) State the condition under which the phenomenon of resonance occurs in a series LCR
circuit. Plot a graph showing the variation of current with frequency of a.c. sources in a
series LCR circuit.
(b) Show that in a series LCR circuit connected to an a.c. source exhibits resonance at its
1
natural frequency equal to ?
LC

SECTION-C

7. In the figure a long uniform potentiometer wire AB is having a constant potential gradient
along its length. The null points for the two primary cells of emfs 1 and 2 connected in the
manner shown are obtained at a distance of 120 cm and 300 cm from the end A. Find
(i) 1/2 and (ii) position of null point for the cell 1.
How is the sensitivity of a potentiometer increased?

Or

Using Kirchhoff’s rules determine the value of unknown resistance R in the circuit so that no
current flows through 4  resistance. Also find the potential difference between A and D.

8. (a) State Lenz’s law. Give one example to illustrate this law. The Lenz’s law is a
consequence of the principle of conservation of energy.” Justify this statement.
(b) Deduce an expression for the mutual inductance of two long coaxial solenoids but having
different radii and different number of turns.
