CONFRONTING SYSTEMIC RACISM: A STUDENT-LED APPROACH

Racism is a current problem spread all over the world, despite the actions to prevent it.
Following the emergence of the Black Lives Matter movement, the pressing challenge of
systematic racism demands urgent action.

One of the fundamental issues in tackling this systematic racism is the prevalent lack of
awareness and in-depth understanding of its roots and representations. Many individuals,
particularly students, remain uninformed about the historical context and current
implications of racism. This can lead to the continuation of biases and inequalities. To combat
this awareness, a possible solution is the integration of detailed educational programs that
dive into the history and current realities of racism. This initiative should include curriculum
reforms to incorporate racial justice education, guest lectures, and workshops that foster an
environment of understanding and discussion. For example, history courses that explore
colonialism could give students important insights and will let them think critically about
these kinds of societal challenges.

Transitioning from the educational atmosphere to community involvement, another

significant challenge is the indifference and inaction within communities regarding racial
justice issues. Despite recognizing the existence of racial disparities, many individuals feel
powerless or indifferent, leading to a lack of active engagement in addressing these injustices.
To overcome this problem, fostering active community engagement and advocacy is a vital
solution. This involves organizing community-based events that highlight racial justice issues,
participating in peaceful protests, and volunteering with organizations dedicated to
combating racial inequality. Student-led initiatives, such as campus groups focused on social
justice, can play a vital role in mobilizing peers and creating platforms for actions and
dialogue. The role of social media should also be added into this equation, the initiatives
should be posted online to create even more awareness around the world.

In conclusion, the fight against systemic racism, particularly in the context of Black Lives
Matter movement, demands a multifaceted approach. By enhancing our educational
frameworks to provide a deeper understanding of racial issues and encouraging proactive
community engagement, students can play a crucial role in driving societal change. The
success of this plan hinges on our collective commitment to remedy the problems
surrounding racism.
