The separator is 8 feet long and maximum 3.75 inches OD at the ends.

Caution

Do not run a pump seating assembly over 13 inches in length.

Do not run Separator upside down.
Do not run the Separator upside down.

The separator is 8 feet long and has a maximum diameter of 3.75

inches OD (the size of a 2 7/8 inch collar).

Two 1 1/8 inch round holes are at the bottom of separator to allow
liquid flow into the pump seating assembly. The 1 inch by 5 inch slot
is at the top of the separator to allow the formation fluids to flow up
through the separator and out of the top of the separator.

At least partially fill the tubing with liquid to seat the pump and reduce
stuffing box problems after running the tubing string and before
pumping the well.

Do not use power tongs on the separator since the collars should be
tightened with a pipe wrench manually. The separator barrel is not
designed for pipe wrench use.
Associated equipment to use with Separator - Packer and Tubing anchor

Running procedure:
The tubing anchor is at the bottom.
Then the packer
Then the seating nipple for a short spacer
Then the separator
Then the tubing

Note that the short seating nipple is used to connect the packer to the separator
and is not used for seating the pump. The pump seating nipple is in the lower
portion of the separator. Do not run a seating nipple above the separator since
the separator contains the seating nipple. The bottom of the separator has two
1 1/8 inch round holes and the top has one slot that is 1 inch wide and 5 inches
long.

If a mechanical seating assembly is used on the bottom of the pump, run a

mechanical seating nipple above the separator for sealing the mechanical
assembly on the pump.
The pump seating assembly must be less
than 13 inches in length to properly seal.

The top of the tape is where the pump

setting assembly fits into the seating
nipple which is built into the lower section
of the separator. The total length of the
pump seating assembly where the top of
the pump seating assembly is shown
must not exceed 13 inches. A pump
seating assembly more than13 inches in
length will prevent the metal pump seal
above the 3 cups from properly sealing
with the separator seating assembly.

If a strainer nipple is supplied below the

pump and the pump seating assembly
with strainer nipple is over 13 inches in
length, the strainer nipple must be
removed because the pump seating
assembly will not seal properly in the
separator seating assembly.

Do not run a strainer nipple or strainer

screen ahead of the standing valve that
can cause an obstruction to liquid flow
into the pump chamber and reduce pump
fillage.

The standard separators are made to run with a conventional 3 cup seating
assembly for a pump to run in 2 7/8 inch tubing. The bottom of the separator has
a N11-25 seating nipple for a S11-25 seating assembly on the bottom of the
pump. The seating assembly is marked on the separator in the slot at the upper
end as shown.

The seating assembly in the separator is a N11-25 as shown on the above

markings. The lower number is the serial number D141. In addition the
markings are located on the very top of the separator as shown.
Following are API descriptions of the seating nipple located in the bottom of the
separator. The ID of the N11-25 seating nipple located in the bottom of the
separator is 2.28 inches. This is compatible with the S11-25 3 cup seating
assembly on the bottom of most pumps for 2 7/8 inch tubing.

The separator is also available with a seating assembly N11-20 in the bottom of
the separator. It is marked with the N11-20 designation and is to be used with a
pump for 2 3/8 inch tubing having a conventional 3 cup S11-20 seating assembly
on the bottom. The ID of the seating nipple in the bottom of the separator
marked N11-20 is 1.780 inches.

Be sure to specify and order the smaller seating assembly in the separator for
the smaller seating assembly on the pump if the separator is used with 2 3/8 inch
tubing.

The standard seating nipple in the separator is for the 3 cup S11-25 seating
assembly on the bottom of most pumps for 2 7/8 inch tubing.
If a mechanical seating assembly is run on the bottom of the
pump, put a mechanical seating assembly above the gas
separator for the pump to seat into.
See table for proper torque on Tubing Connections.

Be sure to lubricate the threads with a good pipe dope.
