water) and humans on the environment.
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed: What would you like students to know and be
able to do by the end of this lesson:
Empowered Learner -1.1c Feedback to Improve
Practice Be able to describe what causes ocean pollution
as well as how to prevent it.
Students use technology to seek feed back that
informs and improves their practice and to
demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.

What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?

I can determine where ocean pollution comes from and how to prevent it.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation: Students will complete the provided Padlet. Teacher will monitor
student responses as well as results from Gimkit homework. Students will remain engaged by
applying their real-world experiences to their lesson. At the start to the lesson, students are asked to
reflect on their knowledge and personal experiences of the ocean. Student learning will be assessed

by students’ accuracy and completion of assignments. The lesson will conclude with a reflection of
their personal usage of waste, how to reduce it, and how to repurpose it,
Managing student learning:
Students will become active learner by reflecting on what they learned, chatting with peers about
their own experiences, and by having volunteers share their at home findings.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students will be able to be engaged in the content and express their opinions, interest, and
experiences with the teacher and their peers. Students will be called to action by applying what they
learned into their household and communities.
Reflective Practice:
I think students will build their understanding better because this tool (Padlet) helps students stay
focused by providing a structure of exactly what students will be doing and in what order. Students
will be able to learn multiple aspects of their standard as well as be able to show they learned the
assigned content.
