Renewable Energy
TASK (1)
 Explain by the aid of drawing, the arrangement diagram of the PV
system according to what you have seen on the roof of building C at
NCTU, showing the impact of its components on the system
performance.
the battery
Batteries convert chemical energy directly into electrical energy
Organizer
A solar charging regulator is an electronic device that regulates the electrical voltage coming
from the cells before it passes to the batteries and coming from the battery to the electrical
load in order to preserve the used batteries and ensure that they are charged and used
optimally.
Inverter
An electrical device that converts direct current into alternating current
Solar Panels
It is the main component of the solar energy system. It converts light energy into electrical
energy
What is the difference between on grid and off grid
On grid It is a networked system
Off grid Your solar energy system is self-contained and not connected to the government
electricity grid
The solar panel converts light energy into electrical energy
Inverter converts DC energy into AC

 Explore the levels of adoption of the most widely used renewable
energy resources for Egyptian site (chose your governorate site).

The city of Ras Gharib is characterized by fast winds.

Therefore, many projects have been established that depend on generating electricity from and
from wind energy
1- REGWE wind farm with a capacity of 250 MVA
2- LEKELA wind farm with a capacity of 250 MVA
The wind speed must be greater than 3 m/s for the turbine to start working and generate electricity.

: As for solar energy, there are a number of projects to generate electricity using solar energy.

1- A station in Zaffran a with a capacity of 50 megabytes

2- A number of projects with small capacities ranging between 1 and 3 megabytes

 Provide the justified recommendations for the adoption of the most widely used
conventional and non-conventional (renewable) energy resources at the selected
site‫؟‬
The Ras Gharib station provides electricity to about 500,000 homes with clean electricity
generated from wind energy. One of the features of the project is that it is considered the first
private sector project that contributes to supporting the Egyptian electricity network with clean
electrical energy and diversifying its sources. The project was able to operate during the first
year of commercial operation of the project. From producing, generating, and feeding the
Egyptian electricity network with approximately 1,158 gigawatt hours of clean energy, with a
load factor of 51% and an operating efficiency of 98.5%, the Ras Gharib station represents 3% of
the total capacity of the national electricity network Traditional methods of generating electrical
energy
1- Gas generating stations
2- Hydropower stations
3- Thermal power plants
Unconventional

- Generation plants using wind energy

2- Solar power generation stations

TASK (2)
 Describe the connection of each renewable energy system to the local
power system requirements?
Ras Gharib station is the first private sector project in Egypt that works to generate clean
electrical energy The station is located in the Jabal al-Zeit area, south of the city of Ras Gharib in
the Red Sea Governorate, on an area of 100 square kilometers The Ras Gharib wind station is
classified - according to government data - as one of the world's largest electricity generation
stations in terms of area, number of turbines, and capacity generated by the station
The station consists of 125 wind turbines, with a production capacity of up to 250 megawatts. It
also includes a transformer station consisting of 3 transformers. It also consists of a medium-
voltage switchgear station of 33 kV, of the gas-insulated type, and a high-voltage switchgear
station of 220 kV of the outdoor, air-insulated type.

 Construct a PESTLE analysis for PV system to Explore suitability of such

system in your own governorate.

 Discuss the effect of the renewable energy systems benefit on the

people living in the chosen area?

1- Providing job opportunities

2- Cleanliness of the environment, as the use of renewable energy sources such as wind and

solar energy reduces the use of diesel and gas, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions .

 Summarize the efficiencies of a variety of combinations renewable

energy technologies for a chosen location?
It is considered one of the first projects implemented by the private sector, as it was implemented in an
alliance between 3 private companies. It is one of the largest renewable energy generation stations in
the Middle East and Africa region. The station produces large quantities of renewable energy from wind
energy The Ras Gharib wind station is the starting signal for the implementation of many similar projects,
with foreign companies, and in cooperation with the private sector, due to the success achieved by this
station and its victory among international projects, as the best energy and industry project in the world,
indicating the start of the implementation steps for the station. Another with a capacity of
500megawatts, which is twice the capacity of the first station The Ras Gharib region is characterized by
constant wind speeds for most of the year, with an increase in the summer month
