Renewable Energy
TASK (1)
Explain by the aid of drawing, the arrangement diagram of the PV
system according to what you have seen on the roof of building C at
NCTU, showing the impact of its components on the system
performance.
the battery
Batteries convert chemical energy directly into electrical energy
Organizer
A solar charging regulator is an electronic device that regulates the electrical voltage coming
from the cells before it passes to the batteries and coming from the battery to the electrical
load in order to preserve the used batteries and ensure that they are charged and used
optimally.
Inverter
An electrical device that converts direct current into alternating current
Solar Panels
It is the main component of the solar energy system. It converts light energy into electrical
energy
What is the difference between on grid and off grid
On grid It is a networked system
Off grid Your solar energy system is self-contained and not connected to the government
electricity grid
The solar panel converts light energy into electrical energy
Inverter converts DC energy into AC
Array
COMBINER BOX
Explore the levels of adoption of the most widely used renewable
energy resources for Egyptian site (chose your governorate site).
: As for solar energy, there are a number of projects to generate electricity using solar energy.
Provide the justified recommendations for the adoption of the most widely used
conventional and non-conventional (renewable) energy resources at the selected
site؟
The Ras Gharib station provides electricity to about 500,000 homes with clean electricity
generated from wind energy. One of the features of the project is that it is considered the first
private sector project that contributes to supporting the Egyptian electricity network with clean
electrical energy and diversifying its sources. The project was able to operate during the first
year of commercial operation of the project. From producing, generating, and feeding the
Egyptian electricity network with approximately 1,158 gigawatt hours of clean energy, with a
load factor of 51% and an operating efficiency of 98.5%, the Ras Gharib station represents 3% of
the total capacity of the national electricity network Traditional methods of generating electrical
energy
1- Gas generating stations
2- Hydropower stations
3- Thermal power plants
Unconventional
Loss factor=1.3
Total power from the panel =Total Energy need*Loss Factor/Hours of sunlight =2952Wh*1.3/4.5=852.8w
Battery sizing
Battery capacity =Total Energy need * Days of Autonomy. /Voltage of the system * Depth of Discharge
(DoD)
=3838Wh*2/24*0.8=400A
Safety factors=1.2
Controller Capacity =Total power from the panel*Safety factor /voltage of the system
Inverter sizing
Safety factors=1.5
2100*1.5 =3150w
600+1200+300=2100W
Total sizing=853W+400+42.64+3150=4445.64
number of panel=952.8/110W=7.75
~=8panels
Number of Battery=400/200=2Battery
Total cost =solar panel cost Battery cost+ charge controller cost + inverter
cost=22000+21000+970+8250=52220 pound
$1753.52+263.02=$2016.54
=3838*365*20*4.5=$126078300
LOCE = Sum of costs over life time/Sum of electricity Produced over life time
=$2016.54/126078300/=$1.5994/cent kwh
2- Cleanliness of the environment, as the use of renewable energy sources such as wind and
solar energy reduces the use of diesel and gas, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions .
