Animal

Characteristics
Based on Their Food
1
The food chain includes many
different kinds of animals, all of
which have specific foods they
eat.
2
Three different types of animals
exist: herbivores, omnivores, and
carnivores.
Do you know the difference
between these types of animals?
3
Herbivores
1. Animals that eat only plants.
2. Has flat teeth to grind food.
3. A tamaraw and a goat are
herbivores.
4
5
What are the facts that
I do not know about
Herbivores?
6
4. Herbivores concentrate their
munching on just the fruits or
seeds of the plants, ignoring the
stems, leaves and roots.

7
5. They have special digestive
tracts that are designed to
handle different types of plants
they might eat.

8
6. Herbivores usually
have big front
teeth, called incisors.
These teeth are
used to grasp and
cut plants.
9
7. Herbivores are often very
large animals, such as cows,
deers, and elk. Because they
spend a large part of their day
eating.
10
11
Carnivores
1. Animals that only eat the meat of
other animals.
2. They have sharp teeth to capture
their prey.
3. Tigers, snakes and crocodiles are
carnivores. 12
13
What are the facts that
I do not know about
Carnivores?
14
1. They have to eat a lot to give
them the energy they need so
they spend most of their days
hunting to make sure they get
enough food.
15
2. Carnivores need
to cut and tear up
their food, they
have big canine
teeth and sharp
molars. 16
3. Carnivores provide an
important role service in the wild
because they help control the
population of other animals which
can result to over population.
17
18
Omnivores
1. Animals that eat both plants
and animals.
2. Humans, monkeys, and rats are
omnivores.
19
20
What are the facts that
I do not know about
Omnivores?
21
1. They are called “opportunistic
eaters”. This means that they
can and will eat almost anything
that is around when they are
hungry.
22
2. They also have different
types of teeth. They have
incisors for cutting, canines for
tearing up meat and molars to
grind up their food.
23
24
3. Omnivores live in every
type of environment,
including deserts, forests,
water, and even the arctic.

A Few Behavioral
Adaptations
What is Hibernation?

28
It is the period where animals go
through a long period of inactivity.
This happens in extreme low
temperature and in changes in
the supply of food (scarcity and
abundance).
29
1. Hibernating animals burrow or
keep themselves in hollow places
for protection and shelter which
occurs in cold months such as
during winter seasons.
30
31
What is Estivation?

32
It is the period when animals
living in hot places become
dormant. The extremely hot
temperature is not suitable
for them to survive.
33
1. During estivation, animals burrow
themselves into the cold ground or in
shady places where the temperature
is low. Examples are lungfishes that
can live up to three years without
water.
34
35
Have you ever seen birds in this
manner?

36
What is Migration?

37
It is the movement of animals
from one place to another.
Do you know some reasons
why animals migrate?
38
1. Birds migrate to escape from a
harsh environment.
39
2. Food and reproduction are the main
reasons why whales migrate.
40
Are you familiar with
“The Great Migration
in Africa”?
41
Consisting of millions of animals, it is
the largest terrestrial mammal
migration in the world. It is a
journey wherein animals find food
and also, to give birth to the future
generations.
